The Marvel Cinematic Universe — Page 52

They should have just stuck with the Tobey Maguire version and connected that to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Those movies were pretty good(with exception of the 3rd).

The Amazings tried really hard to establish their own Cinematic Universe, but were just dreary and dull.

Does Peter have to be back in high school every time they reboot Spidey? I like watching movies with characters in high school about as much I like having dreams where I’m still in high school.

Well, if you look as the first Spiderman comic book, Peter was a highschool kid. Therefore, some would argue that to be true to the source material, Peter has to start out in highschool.

Of course, if you’re skipping over the origin story, is it really important to start with Spidey as a teenager?

I guess not, if you are skipping the origin story. But it is still important that when Peter began being Spiderman, he did so when he was still in highschool(if you want to be true to the source material).

That should go without saying.

Are they skipping the origin story in this new movie?

Everything I’ve heard points to that being the case.

Review I read says yes. It’s post-Civil War, with Stark trying to get him to take heroing slowly. They mention that he was bitten by a spider, but we don’t have to see Bruce’s parents get shot - I mean, Uncle Ben die - again.

What about Uncle Ben’s rice? Glad it has the armpit wings with the suit and the more Steve Ditko/John Romita Sr. design for look of it.
No doubt I’ll be going to see it. Probably week asfter it opens or the following Tuesday.

Still extremely hyped about THOR: RAGNAROK.

You better tell that to Frink. He’s our resident expert on Tuesdays.

$6.50 all day no matter which showing at Capitola Cinelux on Tuesdays. It’s why I mentioned it. Concessions are a rip-off.

This was the only chance I would see the movie, if they did this. It was a brilliant idea. It would have retained some continuity with the only good Spider-Man movies (the first two – second one was one of the best superhero movies ever) and skipped out on the origin (and if they are indeed not showing that, it makes even less sense for him to be in high school) and all the teenage angst BS. Christ, it would have been different for a change!

Ironically, the only way for Marvel to really be original with this movie was to go back so they could move forward with new plots and ideas. Adult, married Spider-Man is a completely untapped aspect of the character on film and fits in much better with the other Marvel heroes. But no, they cast yet another fucking high school aged British brat in it instead.

I can’t imagine anything I want to see less than another Spider-Man movie about a “nerdy” teen learning how to superhero while dealing with high school problems (second reboot with this concept within five years!), let alone one intertwined with the incredibly repetitive and increasingly obnoxious and convoluted MCU. It would be hard enough to get me to spend my limited filmgoing money on either type of film these days. Making it both instantly made me lose any and all interest I might have had in this movie. I doubt I’ll even see it when it’s available to rent, no matter how good the reviews are, because I just do not care and absolutely nothing could make me.

I saw Spider-Man Homecoming, good stuff, my third favourite one.

Not enough people read the EU.

Though we’ve seen teenage Spider-Man before, we haven’t seen a teenage MCU character yet. Don’t think the Avengers need yet another 30-something/middle-aged dude, having him be a kid means he’s actually adding something to that dynamic.

With the amount of time it takes to make these films, he won’t be a teenager very long.

Spider-man is fundamentally a youthful character compared to the others. He provides a nice contrast to everyone else.

It was great that they finally signed on someone who was close to the age of the character. Tobey Maguire was 27 when his first Spider-man film was released, while Andrew Garfield was 29!

In contrast, Tom Holland was only 20 when he made his debut in Civil War.

To put it into perspective, there is only a 10 year age difference between Tobey Maguire and the current Aunt May. He could reasonably play Uncle Ben now.

I’ll probably see Homecoming on Saturday morning since I’ve got a surplus of $5 Fandango coupons that expire the end of July and the ticket will only cost me 79 cents.

Plus, I won’t be back in town until tomorrow and want to see this with a DC audience, for obvious reasons.

I really liked the end credits in Homecoming. Not the credit scenes, which were just standard Marvel credit scenes, but the actual first segment of credits was pretty cool.
