Kylo tried to gather the information taking it by force, although Rey tried to convince the stormtrooper, in a completely different approach. For me at least it’s hard to relate the two scenes, mostly because the Rey scene was made to be an obvious reference to the jedi mind trick of previous films, not to be a normal learning from her through the film. The scene itself doesn’t sound natural.

I don’t know, maybe I’m reading too much into things. That’s at least my interpretation, I never had your interpretation while watching the movie

Obviously just a mockup, but all the elements are there and I think it may actually add something. Leia’s ‘Bring him home’ could refer both to her later line regarding her son as well as instruction to Maz to find Han and bring him back to her, Maz being a trusted confidant of both parties. Or it could even refer to Luke, since Leia could have deputized Maz into the Luke quest at some point and thought giving her the saber would help somehow.

It’s not the ideal solution, but I think it works better than the current state. At least it’s a hint of where she gets the saber. But to work, I think it would be better to cut Han’s questioning Maz about that. Cutting it, it would implies that he already knows that the saber is with Maz.

Don’t know if you’ve already decided about this, but I think that subtle audio of bad dark side things happening in relation to the Skywalker saber, or palpatine quotes, or sith whispers, something like that, might be more effective in showing her tap into the dark side than Sith eyes. Or might just be something that could make a good addition. Actually I think I remember maybe you experimented with this earlier?

I really liked that inclusion Nev and it makes a lot of sense of how did Maz get it, it blends very well also👍.

If you are going with the idea that Ben’s first saber was Anakin’s, maybe in the TFA Force vision, you could add the saber somewhere on the ground. Perhaps it could be laying right in front of Rey’s face when she falls in the dirt near Luke and R2.
Also, some other general suggestions that might help with the flow of the shots, I wonder if you could do a match cut of R2 in the rain to a shot of dormant R2 in the Resistance base. Then, you could create a fake whip pan (just like what was used between the shots of Rey and Luke/R2), from dormant R2 to Leia handing Maz the saber. The extra shot might help emphasize the idea that R2 was the bridge between Luke and Leia’s possession of the saber. I wonder if you could also use that whip pan effect to exclusively use that shot of Luke from the teaser, that way you don’t have to try and match the two separate shots.

Is Harrison in the cockpit in the shot that begins at 0:03 ~ 0:04? I think it could use a bit more CC to blend in with the background better… or maybe he’s actually there and my brain is playing tricks on me. Either way Nev, this is incredible.
