Broken record again, but I’m stoked to watch this ahead of IX. Or at least a workprint or whatever you got by then.

I’ll definitely have a workprint ready and available even if some things are still unfinished such as timecode removal.

I’m having my upcoming edit for TLJ take place after your edit of TFA (because my viewing order will be Rogue One, ANH:R HD, ESB:R, TFoR, RotJ:R, TFA:TSP, my TLJ edit, and an edit for TRoS). What do you think?
The unfortunate reality of the Star Wars prequel and Disney trilogies is that they will always be around. Forever. They will never go away. It can never be undone.
I also prefer to be referred to as “TNT”, not “Freezing”.
Very nice Neverar, I like this more than the first attempt.

Very ambitious. I don’t know how you’ll pull of Luke’s hair color change among other things, but best of luck 😃

Do you plan on removing Snoke mentioning that Kylo needs to complete his training? I mean, Kylo’s training isn’t really important in The Last Jedi.

His training doesn’t have anything to do lightsabers or Force powers. Arguably Snoke trying to have Kylo Ren kill anyone that reminds him of Ben Solo (Leia, Rey) is his training. Killing Han left him unbalanced rather than resolved, so another sacrifice was necessary to solidify his transformation.
At least that is how I interpreted it.

Yes, it’s already removed:
I’ve been thinking about moving Snoke’s ‘Awakening’ dialogue (thanks RL!) and I have an idea for it that may greatly improve more than just the logic of that theme. Not to be cryptic about the idea, but I think it will be better just to show you. Unfortunately implementation will take a bit of work so I’m just going to let this idea sit here for now like a JJ mystery box. 😃
As promised, the idea:

I may have to go back into the Restructured workfile to rework the music, since the timing could be better.
As for the ‘training’ line, I don’t miss it, especially since TLJ all but discarded that plot point.
RL, that’s a fair interpretation of the line with the hindsight of TLJ, but after TFA I think most people expected some actual physical/mental training like a dark version of Yoda’s training from ESB. The line also feels to me like Snoke is recognizing the dark action of Kylo as passing the test set up earlier, regardless of how conflicted Kylo still remains. I like where TLJ took this plot thread, but it does feel like two different attitudes.

Even though that is my perspective I like that you remove the mention it TFA. The reason why being that I think Snoke doesn’t decide that he needs more training until he sees him at the beginning of TLJ, when he sees how conflicted he still is.
EDIT: I also think it is funny how Snoke starts going on this aside and Hux is thinking, “That’s great and all but I can’t stand here and listen to you monologue because the collapse of the planet has begun.”

I imagine that the monologue would be mostly to himself as Hux scampered off, but it is indeed silly. That’s also one of the reasons I moved the breakup of the planet to after the lightsaber fight; that sort of thing works in The Search for Spock because one of the combatants is a battle-obsessed Klingon, but nobody on Starkiller seems crazy enough to do anything other than try to get off it as soon as possible.

Concerning the final scenes, it becomes more and more clear that I need to show BB-8’s contribution to the map or else the Resistance looks that much worse for failing to search R2. So I’ve extended the TLJ musical cue to give the map scene more time to breathe. There are also a few small changes to the Luke dream I’m sure you’ll spot:

Looking good! Your music transitions are seriously seamless, especially how you go back out of the TLJ piece back into the TFA piece, very nice. I think you could pull off something similar with the shot of Leia reacting to Han’s death earlier in the film if you found two pieces that worked well together.
Did you add a guassian blur effect to Luke? I liked it more after rewatching the clip a little bit it initially stuck out to me. It felt a little noticeable, but subsequently it felt as if Luke was almost appearing on the cliff’s edge, which is kinda cool, and I’m guessing you were sort of going for that. What you could make him come into focus slower, I don’t know if he is already coming into focus as soon as the shot starts or only the last second or two. Ehh, anyway it’s just my first impression. Nitpicky really.
Also, I noticed that the fade-to-white sort of fades back in to Luke barely for just like a frame or two before it completes fades back onto the Resistance.
Anyway, I’m glad you made this change!
+1 on seamless musical transitioning.
And I like that the blur intensifies during a gust of wind.
Ditto. This looks and sounds great!

This change looks good, and I like your reasoning behind it. I always felt like BB-8 needed to be part of that scene, and this edit pulls it off well.
Visually, I didn’t like the shot of Chewie, Poe, and rando Resistance member that interrupts BB-8 rolling forward. It just felt choppy or too quick or something. Would the shot of Rey looking at the map be a better fit here? Or would that be too awkward after having seen her in the Luke/dream sequence?

I actually felt this as well.
Since I’m planning on removing Rey from this scene, that shot is a no-go. There really isn’t any other reaction shot to use, and I’ve already lengthened the existing reaction shot as much as I dare. Originally the Resistance + Rey reactions were together and sort of acted as one which allowed them to be so brief, but since that’s no longer possible I’m out of options.

I think what’s slightly jarring is that the camera movement as it is now is not “flowing” with the shot before…if that makes sense. BB8 is moving from left to right, but the next shot has more movement (mostly from 3PO) on the far left (not too mention a large wookie) so your eyes don’t quite know where to look.
Something that might help with that shot is to zoom in slightly (can you center the 3 dudes or add more of Liea?)…and possibly position the frame closer to the bottom, and then have it slowly rise up…maybe even pulling back out a bit…as if it could’ve been an alternate angle filmed with Poe kneeling with and BB8. Am I making sense? 😄

The music transitions are really top notch and the bright dream affect is superb, I personally wouldn’t blur luke at the beginning instead leaving it till the end of the dream so that it remains more subtle.

Would it be better if I were to replace the rocks behind Luke and have him fade in totally independent of the surroundings?

So here’s an idea that has been bouncing around for a while, and it uses the old false starfield.

Previously the best idea for using this opening was to cut from Rey eating dinner to the Finalizer flying overhead, cutting to night in between the two shots or something to that effect.
However with the new images I’ve created of BB-8 sitting outside of Rey’s house at night, a new option becomes available. Rey finds BB-8 and brings the droid home, then BB-8 facilitates the transition to the Finalizer as a flashback. Perhaps BB-8 looks up at the stars and the camera pans up to the moons and the Finalizer, carrying the plot on from there. Cut from Finn being accosted by Phasma to Poe being tortured, then return to the theatrical progression of scenes (Rey arriving in town, Escape of Poe and Finn, Crash landing, etc…). The reversion to the theatrical ordering is a slight downside for me, but a potential upside is that the crawl might not need to be quite as plot heavy. It would need to reference the disappearance of Luke, the rise of the First Order, and the existence of the Resistance, but this could be communicated in two paragraphs with the final paragraph focusing on the plight of planets such as Jakku and the repercussions of the devastating Civil War.

I still think it’d be cool way to open your edit just to set it apart more, but how do you think you make it clear that it was a flashback that BB-8 was having?
Would it be better if I were to replace the rocks behind Luke and have him fade in totally independent of the surroundings?
I’d like to see what that would look like but I honestly prefer letting the scene play out without fading in luke at the beginning like the previous iterations mainly because the blur-in makes it look like an illusion within a dream and maybe it would give away the fact that Rey is just generating a fantasised version of luke which I think should be kept for TLJ as a shock when the audience finds out that he is just an old hermit on a rock.

A harp riff, obviously.
