It’s also going to be very hard to find music that goes along with the beginning of the film like The Attack On The Jakku Village does. Especially when Kylo Ren is introduced because the music cue when he’s introduced is phenomenal.

I actually found a track that perfectly matches up with what happens. I personally love it.

The only one I can think of is this @ 4:18

EDIT: This only pertains to Kylo Ren’s entrance though.

The music I was gonna use for the intro, was the unused opening for The Empire Strikes Back, part of the opening music from A New Hope, and part of the Asteroid field music from The Empire Strikes Back. It’ll be a mix of the three. Trust me, you’ll like it.

Here’s the first part of the song:
https://youtu.be/bCzGXiAWuoI?t=1m26s
1:26 to 2:29

Second part of the song:
https://youtu.be/j1pf6s8MGrs?t=2m18s
2:18 to 2:40

Third part of the song:
https://youtu.be/vVulaCFNL4A?t=3m42s
3:42 to 3:55

Fourth part of the song:
https://youtu.be/vVulaCFNL4A?t=14s
0:14 to 0:40

Fifth part of the song:
https://youtu.be/vVulaCFNL4A?t=1m40s
1:40 to 2:03

And so on. My soundtrack overhaul is a mix and match of all the music from all six films.

The music in the immolation scene is absolutely beautiful, but I don’t care about Anakin at all so the scene falls a little flat for me. Whereas in TFA not only Han a great deal but I also have an emotional connection to Kylo Ren so smaller stuff like Han touching Kylo’s face after he’s stabbed hits me harder than even the “I hate you!” line in ROTS.

I’m actually adding that immolation music from ROTS to the scene where Han confronts Kylo. I have to do it.

Oh… honestly, I was just going to replace Kylo’s theme with the march that plays when the Emperor arrives in Return of the Jedi.

I have to admit that I find most of your changes would make me not have as enjoyable of a experience. Especially removing the entire score??? Ridiculous. Very difficult as a side note but Williams gave us great music, maybe not as great as the originals or episode 3 but the March of the resistance, I can fly anything, Kylo rens theme, Jedi Steps, Rey’s Theme!!! I advise against entirely removing a great soundtrack that people spent hours upon countless hours creating specifically for this film.

I didn’t like many of those themes, I’m sorry. I can appreciate why others can, but the score just didn’t do for me. It sounds good on its own, but it doesn’t work in the movie, just my opinion. As for not as enjoyable of an experience, I just want to remove a lot of the dumb unnecessary moments. I don’t mean remove all the heart, but just some moments that really just don’t need to be there. Yes, heartwarming and silly moments are important. They’re staying in. I’m just talking about little tiny moments I didn’t care for.

In theory it could work but it can also feel disjointed but I can’t render judgement until I actually hear it while watching the fanedit

PT music is a must but I think you should at least keep Rey’s Theme. It’s important to have her theme be distinct seeing as how she’s our main protagonist.

You should cue the song right after Kylo stabs Han because it won’t really sync up if you don’t.

That could work though the way they both step from the shuttles is certainly different which creates a disconnect. The music is somber in ROTJ whereas the cue in TFA when Kylo arrives is frantic and this is due to their mannerisms. Even my suggestion of using 4:18 from Separatist Droid Invasion March doesn’t fit the scene adequately enough if you shoehorn it into TFA.

While some of the tiny moments didn’t work in TFA (and in the other films as well) they add up an give the film personality. And removing something like Finn being excited about blowing up a TIE Fighter or removing the “Did you see that!” line reminds me of the PT in which people did cool things but they never reacted to them at all which made them seem kind of robotic.

That is very true. I might keep that part in, but stuff like Finn saying, “Well this is what we look like.” I just really don’t care for.

Actually, it’ll play while they’re talking, and then after Han gets stabbed, the duel music from Return of the Jedi will play. So, it’ll go like this:

Han and Kylo talking on bridge:

Han after Kylo stabs him:
https://youtu.be/L63In39n86c?t=1m10s
At 1:10

And then when Chewie starts firing at stormtroopers, the music after Ben Kenobi dies in A New Hope plays:
https://youtu.be/WzU9UkVL1QA?t=8s
Kinda mirroring Luke’s reaction to Ben dying.

Huh, I actually think the music for that scene is perfect the way it is but I’m excited to see/hear this version in action!

^ pretty much what Smithers said though the tone of the movie doesn’t mesh well with the music where Ben dies.

That line is going bye-bye in my edit too along with the second time when Finn says “I’m with The Resistance”. It’s almost like they were breaking the 4th wall with that one.

So I had a look at the bluray, and it looks like the teal tint has vanished. The stormtroopers at the beginning look completely normal colour-wise.

Out of interest, does anybody else feel that this film has a reality tv vibe in regards to its looks? It just deosn’t look like a film at certain points at all (I’m going by the bluray here, but I remember even the theatrical version’s last scene looked like I filmed on my iPhone). I wonder if people feel it isnt cinematic enough, or that Disney once again went retreated from what fans disliked about the prequels, only to overdo it.

Search your feelings, you know it to be true.

Are you joking? It doesn’t look like that even a little bit. This is one of the most cinematic films I’ve ever seen.

—Soundtrack is completely removed and replaced with music from the previous films

Sorry to ask but: why ? TFA is not the best SW score (I would rank them 5-4-3-1-6/7-2), but it’s nevertheless a terrific score, which fits perfectly the movie it is supposed to serve. Besides, Williams is going to extend and mix his new themes with those he will compose for VIII and IX, so if you do remove his VII score, you will totally lose his thematic work and ruin the emotionnal aspect of the ST, as well as removing the “sound” identity of the ST. I won’t say the Han Solo death scene is perfect, but the music is.

I disagree severely. The new music didn’t do any of that for me. I’ve listened to the soundtrack over and over, trying to appreciate it, like pieces such as The Scavenger, March of the Resistance, and so on, and I can’t remember any of them after listening, even though I try my best. Not only that, but the score was just horribly implemented into the movie. Lots of moments where music could be playing to help the scene, but it’s just silent. The score, in short, just didn’t have many memorable themes to it and it re-used old scores anyway, so why not just do the whole thing. As for the following movies, just like the original trilogy, new themes came along and added to the characters later on, with themes like Brother and Sister and Imperial March. May I remind everyone that the Imperial March didn’t come into the series until the fifth movie? Same thing can happen here with Kylo Ren. His theme, if the next score is good, can come in the next movie.

Well I’m not posting the majority of things I’m changing because the edit I’m making is for myself. If you’re making an edit for people to see I think it’d be best to listen to the people. No?

Also, you really should keep Rey’s theme though. There is no way in fuck you can tell me that it’s not a great piece of music and doesn’t fit her character.

Well, I expected more enthusiasm, but I guess that’s my fault. But making an edit for people to see doesn’t automatically mean you take every piece of consideration over your gut instinct. Suggestions and feedback are fantastic, and great for shaping the edit as a whole, but if the edit is something you want to see, you just do it. I’m not going to leave the original music in. It’s going. Simple.

Also, while Rey’s theme is very good, it sounded a bit much like Harry Potter music (Same composer, I know). I have mixed thoughts about keeping that one piece in, but not the others.

With that said, it’s my edit, and I’m happy with the changes I’m making.

I hope you are.

I would like to thank you for reading, and I can’t wait to share what I’m going to put together.

“Share but not discuss” would be more accurate.

Anyway, good luck, I’m not sure it’s possible to remove an entire soundtrack without creating jarring sound effets.

If I may, I also disagree with the following:

  • Color correction (Yellow finalized tint)
    [the movie looks good]

  • Removal of Poe’s other stupid line, “You need a pilot?”
[this line is in fact quite funny and is the beginning of a friendship]

  • Cut down Rey’s fight in marketplace
[you need to see her in danger and able to fight back, otherwise the saber duel she wins at the end would seem very unlikely]

  • Removal of entire Rathtar squid scene. It just cuts from Han talking to Lord Snoke
[I don’t like the scene but if you remove it there is going to be a continuity issue I reckon]

  • Remove the reactions of the people watching the planets getting blown up (So unrealistic)
    [I don’t get this one]

  • Remove Maz’s awful line, “A good question, for another time.” (Basically, the writers acknowledging they wrote a shitty script)
[I agree but the question needs to be asked]

  • Trim down and cut out shots and parts of the raid on Maz’s castle
[the theatrical version is already too short]

  • Re-insert X-Wings hovering over water shot from the trailer
[Are you sure it’s not in the final cut ?]

  • Cut down Kylo chasing Rey in the forest and put in music from EA’s Battlefront
[don’t like Daisy’s performance but the scene is already short, and Kylo Ren looks great in it]

  • Cut out the interrogation sequence between Rey and Kylo (There’s no point to it)
[it’s only the most important scene of the movie regarding Rey’s character]

  • Finn’s fight with Kylo is much shorter, and downright pathetic. Finn lasts less than 40 seconds
[Isn’t it already quite short ?]

The rest of your ideas seem cool, but if you remove one very important narrative scene you edit is gonna fall apart.

Well it seems as though your edit is fated to fade into obscurity.
