Star Wars for me is about the magic of the Force, so the Star Wars movie with the most focus in this area is the best for me. The first one was a space adventure with magical elements, whereas Empire was a magical journey with adventure elements. The third was giant conceit designed to bring the story to a close. It works. It's not great, but it works.
You probably don’t recognize me because of the red arm.

Han and Leia are far more annoying (in ESB)
Yeah but in such a hot n' sexy way...
"I happen to like nice men"
"I'm a nice man"
"No you're not you're... mmmmmm"
I have no problem with the sex.
If I looked like 80's Carrie Fisher and I was in the room with 80's Harrison Ford I'd be up there faster than coke up a straw (remember kids fizzy drinks melt your teeth).

Yeah, I'd prefer to jump into Fisher's 1981 body too. Plenty of coke to be sipped back then.
Stop arousing me, you silly transgenders!
I enjoyed ROTJ alot more than ESB myself. Also liked ANH more than ESB. Dunno why ESB is considered the best movie.
Well "the best Star Wars film" is such a lame phrase. There is not such thing as the best film. Films are an art and it all boils down to individual opinion.

I can't see how ROTJ isn't as reviled as TPM, it's almost as bad, I'm sure someone must prefer TPM somewhere.
I'm proud of this thread bump.

Return of the Jedi is my homeboy.
And speaking of Carrie Fisher in Empire... I know Leia and Luke didn't know they were siblings at the time of the kissy kissy incident, but I'd have to say if my sister looked like her, I'd hit that.
And we've gone there yet again.
Damn you for ROTJ, Lucas. Did you have to make them siblings?
It could have been worse... they could have both been brothers.
If you harken back to the early concept for Luke, they could have been sisters. ;)
Where were you in '77?
There are some who would argue that lesbian sibling Jedi smooches are more marketable than the heterosexual variant but I'm not kinky enough to form an opinion.
ESB is the best overall, but my favorite was always ROTJ.
“Grow up. These are my Disney's movies, not yours.”
In my opinion all three are basically equally great. A comparison between them seems ridiculous since each has different role in terms of trilogy. Obviously Empire has the most characterization but that is purely because of the storyline. The main purpose of the middle chapter storyline is to develop the characters introduced in the first and to complicate things which offers drama.
I believe Lucas can be blamed for Han and Leia characters in Jedi. I think he should NOT have concluded the romance subplot in Empire which greatly depleted their potential for Jedi. I think Han should be frozen without the love proclamation (I know fans are very fond of Ford's "I know" but still). That would leave some tension for Jedi.

A comparison isn't ridiculous (no more than comparing the PT to the OT) the first film is original and has surprise on it's side, the second one had to work against expectations, provide character development, while being a satisfying film in it's own right and it pulled off that arguably more difficult job with aplomb. The third film is a contractual obligation piece.
Lucas had to make it.
He wanted Star Wars finished with and all the contracts rounded off with as much profit as possible.
The only thing that lifts it above the PT are the performances of Mark Hamill and Ian McDiarmid.
Almost everything else is tatty, recycled or tired and by the numbers.
I can understand people being nostalgic about it in much the same way that some people feel nostalgia for TPM.

I respect your opinion but I sure can't agree with it.

Edit: Or Star Wars if you don't like 'ANH'
Hello everyone,
Noob here. I've been an on again off again fan of star wars since I saw a New Hope in theaters when I was a kid.
A New Hope shaped my imagination of what films could be. There was nothing like it. Not just the special effects but the humor, characters, imagery and pacing.
It's the best film ever made.
