***The "Darth Editous" Episode IV DVD Info and Feedback Thread*** - a partially "de-specialed" DVD — Page 20

In case anyone's wondering, it is a rule that there should be no links to torrents of full edits.

But thanks Wesyeed for putting that up - I expect you'll be bombarded with PMs now!

You weren't to know, but if anyone else puts up a torrent, could you include the serial number in the torrent filename? It's DE-ANH20050525P for PAL and DE-ANH20050525N for NTSC. I don't know if you can edit the description just to include PAL or NTSC, whichever it is.

Is it a complete image of the DVD, including the JPEG disc label?

There is no jpg file listed.

Looking at the listed size of the last *.vob file, it looks more like the PAL version to me but the size does not exactly match my (original) copy!!

Just to be on the safe side, we don't allow any torrent site links. It's OK to mention the name of the site where the torrent has been uploaded, and that should be sufficient to allow it to be found by anyone of reasonable intellect.

I smiled at the comment where someone accused DE of suffering from OCD!

I'm not sure how you tell from the size of a VOB file whether it's NTSC or PAL! Both were encoded to make the most of the disc space, so if it doesn't match the PAL disc I guess it must be NTSC - I don't have my ISOs here to compare. Then again, it could be down to rounding errors or what size kilobytes and megabytes are today.

If Wesyeed had uploaded the JPEG we'd know from its filename

Unfortunately (by most peoples' standards) it was the SE. But it has its uses.

It would still be awesome to preserve cuz we all know GL is making more hcanges as we speak

All file sizes match the NTSC version posted by segaflip
(measured in bytes so no Kilo-, Mega-, or Giga- rounding involved)

Both *.IFO checksums match the NTSC version posted by segaflip

(I'll compare the *.VOB checksums when I get home tonight....)

They match. All files in Weyseed's VIDEO_TS are identical to the ones segaflip posted as version "DE-ANH20050525N"
so the torrent must be NTSC I'd say.

However, in practice you must take into account the “fuckwit factor”. Just talk to Darth Mallwalker…

Oh damn, I left the cover out when I burned it to dvd months ago (I should have just burned it as a data disc and not a dvd...) I don't really know about the differences between ntsc and pal except a few bits about framerate and resolution.... So I can only say I'm mostly sure it's ntsc since that's usually what I go for when downloading the edits from the newsgroup or torrent, and I don't have any pal dvds in my possession because they're not sold here. Unfortuntately I just can't remember clearly which it was and that's not solid proof. Is there a tool I can use or some calculation I could make based on something that'll prove it's one or the other? I really want to be sure people know what they're getting.

And no links to torrents? oops, sorrry. now I know.

Also, I think DE's OCD is nothing compared to Lucas'

Anything I can do to help on any of these?

Thanks for the offer, but I think I've got everything I need now. If anything else comes up, I'll post!

If anyone's at a loose end, you could send me your impersonations of Ian McDiarmid saying "Luke..." to match the "young Skywalker" line

DE

I think in the DVD that came with ROTS soundtrack Ian McDiarmid says : Luke Skywalker in one the video intros... Ionly saw this once and a friend had the DVD... anyone else remeber this?

I remember that. It was on the A Musical Journey. I don't think Ian was doing his Palpatine voice then, but it might be worth a look. Or a listen. Whatever.

DE, just curious, in the initial post you say:
80. Leia's now don't start moving up a few frames before the credits begin.

What exactly aren't moving? Arms, boobs or something else? Boba Feta is working up some artwork for the Hybrid Edition and was going to put this list into an insert. When I was proofing this, I wasn't sure what it meant.

Hopefully if she had boobs that were moving, you didn't stop them.

So if DE is editing the last scene in ESB, is it safe to assume that he is almost done?

It is done. Please tell me if everything's there and wether the dvd works correctly if you've finished.

Good grief, no. I've only almost finished editing the most difficult bit, the Emperor scene. I've only done about 12 things from a list of more than 100, but once I've got the Emperor out of the way the rest should be a lot quicker.

Keep in mind that DE, like most of us, has a day job. Painstaking detail like his gets done over time, but the results are always worth the wait.

15. I've edited out the wall hanging/cloak thing behind Luke to fix a continuity error (but in a weird way - more on that later).

sorry to bother ppl but to save me going thru 25 pages or so could someone pls let me know what page this is discussed on? or if it hasnt been discussed then some explanation would be cool.

*fanfare!*

I'll shortly be releasing an XVID single CD version of ANH. Not only will this mean more people can get their grubby little protuberances* on the edit, but it's also a "bug-fix" release:

1. The transition over the cut Jabba scene has been improved. The slow-down has been properly retimed instead of the crappy mix effect that exists in DE-ANH20050525N/P.
2. The iris wipe to the credits has had it's one misplaced frame fixed.
3. Greedo's subtitles have been moved up fully into the picture (this will also be the case for any future DVD releases - there isn't enough room to put them completely outside the picture on DVD).

The audio on this release will be a 2 channel surround** downmix of the DVD audio.

For distribution, I thought I might try an FTP version of pay-it-forward - I'll open an FTP server to 2 or 3 people if they can pay forward either by FTP, Bittorrent, or mail. If it works well, I might try it for future DVD releases too.

DE

*50 Quatloos to the one who identifies this non-Star Wars reference!
**although MP3ing it might destroy the surround information - anyone know?

I think an XviD version is a great way to increase the awareness of your edit DE (and as a side effect it will probably promote this site, too.)

Personally I'd prefer a higher quality 2 CD version for a film of this length, but 1 CD is acceptable quality and will take half the time to distribute!

As well as distribution by FTP (give me a shout if you need any help setting up a server, BTW) there's the newsgroup alt.binaries.movies.divx - much higher traffic than a.b.starwars - and the old reliable ED2K P2P network.

And MP3 compression will not destroy surround information, as long as you use full stereo mode. (I've seen discussions on whether joint stereo mode will also keep the surround channel intact, but I can't remember what the conclusion was. Probably safer to go full stereo.)

I'd also like to see XviD rips of Deleted Magic and Building Empire, as I think they too deserve to be seen by a wider audience.

Ok, I am new to this forum and I have been trying like crazy to get copies of these fan edits from various torrent sites and the downloads are either VERY slow or not complete. At this point, I am ready to find out more about this "pay it forward" concept. I used to trade movies via snail mail a few years back. I would be more than willing to send a few copies out if I can get copies of the various fan edits (especially the dartheditous stuff).

I would love some 2 disc XVID rips of these. You might be able to fit the whole trilogy on one disc. Keep the DD5.1 if you can.
I prefer DVDs but a good XVID is ok too.
I have a Sharp DLP projector and at 106inches XVID when done right look pretty damn good. I usually upconvert them to 720P on my LG dvd player.

DE,

is there any way to get just the bug fixes in DVD quality, so we can update our DVD copies?
