Homo is a gay slur. If I'm the only one who is willing to call HotRod out, so be it.

Also, there is a thread for this.

Well, I can't help where he said it.

^This is the problem with "assisted" re-orientation. Self re-orientation has a good record of success because it's internally motivated. It doesn't take much to decide that rubbing a guys crap on your ding-dong isn't something to place at the center of your existence. The assisted proposition establishes that the patient can only do this with the help of others.

I'm sure the great majority of homosexuals who go in for that are consciously or subconsciously DETERMINED to sabotage the process. They desperately WANT to be able to point and say "See? SEE? it's IMPOSSIBLE!".  It's the prospect of not finding a female to provide as much stimulation, being targeted by offended predator types and their nasty pals for re-assimilation, not being able to indulge their drama-queen impulses, unwillingness to deal with the expectations of females and SABOTAGE that produces the failure rate.

I'm sure that if you could take the homosexuals who have fallen deep into it but nonetheless sincerely desire, consciously and subconsiously, to escape and provide them with a moderately attractive girl friend who is guaranteed to provide all the stimulation they could hope to get from the homosexuals without any greater expectations, the success rate would SKYROCKET towards 100%. Persistant homosexuality is a function of the availability of stimulation and the degree of satisfaction derived from drama-queeny, rebellious, petulant behavior.

Ah, Will & Grace -- undermining the gay agenda since 1998.

Didn't know there was a gay agenda or that 'Will & Grace' undermined it. I just thought it was a show about two charismatic, witty and likeable people... and their two annoying, un-funny and self-obsessed friends Will and Grace.

It's not a gay slur. Nor was what he said an attack on homosexuals or even rude or offensive. I guess in a setting like this, it could be seen as 'gay bashing' if there were any evidence that hotrod was really trying to be mean spirited or hurtful, but there isn't as far as I can see (just a playful poke at Warbler). Maybe I missed something important to the case or I'm just not reading it with the same tone you are.

I didn't read it like that either.

The gay community uses gay humor. Ever heard of the website GameFaqs.com? Well, there's a gay group of gamers who made it into a pun.

That was not a playful poke at Warb, it was a deliberate attempt to piss him off and it worked.

And you're wrong about homo.

I'm not wrong. It's no more a put down to homosexuals as hetero is a put down on heterosexuals. It's all contextual and I see no wrong done here. Hotrod says he meant no harm. If his intent really was to piss people off, why wouldn't he just say so?

Some in the black community use the n-word.  I certainly shouldn't use it.

Are you fucking kidding me?  When was the last time someone used hetero as an insult?

Did you even bother reading the links I posted?

I've never heard 'hetero' used as an insult. But that's my point. "Homo" is only derogatory in certain context. It can be used as an insult, but so can most things.

Here's another question - if he really meant no harm, why hasn't he apologized to Warb?

Hang on a sec, Warb takes offense to his own shadow. Everything upsets him.

It was a joke. If the same joke was directed at me, I would have just laughed it off.

Warb, sorry if I caused you misery with my little joke.

If you go to Memphis to a poor neighborhood where blacks and whites mingle, you'll hear whites say the word (for educational purposes, please excuse me) "niggah" to blacks' faces. And vice-versa. Note the "ah" at the end. It can be a term of endearment.

It does depend on context, Mr. Frink.

I'm not ignoring context.  You guys are the ones reacting to the one post and not taking into account past history.

On one point Mr. Frink is indeed very correct:

HotRod should be old and wise enough to know, that this kind of humor, even if not meant to be an offense, can offend people, not sharing that kind of humor.

On the other point:

The "Ho-Ho-Homo Christmas" line was to cheesy, to really read as an insult, but generally the "Homo" is more an insult from heterosexual people towards homosexual people, and not as normal as the non offensive, more as "brother" meant n-word along black folks. Or when did homosexual people starts conversations like "Hi homo, you won't believe what happend today." - "What happened, oh my homo friend, but not boyfriend?" - "I called Detlef a hetero, because he was drinking an ale!" - "No he didn't?!" - "Oh, yes, he did. A cold Ale, from the bottle, exactly as a hetero would do." - "Oh dear!"

So, please stop picking on Mr. Frinks, he wasn't that wrong at all.

Systematizing my beliefs on the subject of slurs is difficult. On one hand, I understand that words hurt. On the other hand, I dislike that any one word has such power regardless of context to some well-intentioned people.

I don't know where sensitivity turns into needless fussiness. And I might never know.
