I’m going to be completely honest, I can’t complain that an “inconclusive” HIV test disqualifies someone from donating blood. Better safe than sorry. And by the way this is coming from someone who also is barred from donating blood so I know how you feel.

I give blood regularly. Apparently, redcross.org says I’ve donated 42 times.

What does that have to do with my post?

I’m not disqualified from giving blood, and I give blood often.

Try to keep up.

You didn’t answer his question.

Yes I did. My reply doesn’t have to relate to HIV.

The conversation was about not being able to donate because of a perceived HIV risk. You just said that you’ve donated before without any context, and that had nothing to do with the topic at hand. Try to keep up.

There are multiple facets to a conversation. One can respond in reference to a particular aspect.

It does make me wonder why someone would get an “inconclusive” HIV result. I suppose I don’t know how the lab test is administered so I don’t know what “conclusive” should look like.

And yes, they test for stuff anyway whether or not you lie.

There are multiple facets to a conversation.

And none of those facets involved people caring that you’ve given blood 42 times. Again, mfm’s response was asking what that had to do with his post, and the answer seems to be nothing.

yep

Yes, so I wonder why an “inconclusive” is less “the lab tech screwed up the sample” and more “it’s not technically a negative result”.

One thing I’ve been told is that the Red Cross combines samples of the same blood type in batches, then tests the batch, and if the batch tests positive they send out “inconclusive” letters to everyone in the batch and blacklist all of them.

I’m not sure if I believe that’s true, myself. I had a cold when I donated and was taking over the counter remedies, so my theory is that they detected a type of antibody in my blood that was similar to the antibody for HIV.
