I wasn't aware until now that people had their own personal canon to be honest. In speaking to you about it, I've gone from being bemused to quite sanguine about the whole thing. I suppose it's like me not really digging the EU books as they don't feel like Star Wars to me while some love them and get upset when what they feel has been established in the EU is contradicted by The Clone Wars or revisions to the films.

I take what you mean about Superman (I've always liked the third one actually) but were those films the result of one person's vision, as with Star Wars? I've not seen the fourth Superman although I did see Superman Returns and unfortunately fell asleep halfway through. Man, those first two Superman films are classic fare, though.

Superan I: Donner
Superman II: Donner (Replaced)/Lester (replacement)
Superman III: Lester
Superman IV: Sydney J Furie (and Golan and Globus/Cannon instead of Salkind)

Having a personal canon is a big reason a lot of people were able to justify still being Star Wars fans after the huge letdown that were the prequels.

Being able to just ignore those crummy films and build your own PT (as many had already done in the 20some years between Jedi and Menace) from allusions in the OT and in various EU materials has been great for people who can't stand the prequels at all, and now, with The Clone Wars and PT-era comics series and whatnot, though using the same characters and timeline, are frequently better-written, are great for people who like the core essence of the stories of the prequels, but thought they were bungled in execution.

Keep Circulating the Tapes.

Something I found interesting in the description of the finale episode of Season 5:

"This episode – the culmination of five years of development of Ahsoka Tano’s character and her relationship with Anakin – is personally helmed by Dave Filoni, who serves as episodic director in addition to being the supervising director for the series. Underscoring the significance of the finale, composer Kevin Kiner arranged an orchestral score for this episode to better resemble the full, classical score found in the Star Wars feature films."

So, did this show get canceled? I just caught the last couple episodes and it seemed pretty final. But it's hard to find any straight info about the status, there's so much shrieking and defensive hysteria from the prequelheads.

IGN: There are so many questions, obviously, about the future of the show, but back last summer at Celebration, you talked about work being done on Season 6. We know that there are completed episodes that we haven’t seen. Might we get an announcement one way or the other about when and where we’ll be seeing that, any time soon?

Filoni: [Laughs] Well, that’s the interesting part, this wait-and-see thing, I know, for fans. But there are more stories to tell, and as I’ve said, we’ve been working on them for awhile. I’ll be excited when we can share more details with you about that, but at this point, there isn’t really much I can say. Unfortunately, that’s all I can say. Sadly, for you guys. [Laughs] I see cool stuff every day… it’s totally unfair!

IGN: That’s very encouraging, because there are some more extreme rumors saying, “The show is over!” But I kept thinking, “But they’ve been making episodes, so that can’t be the case!”

Filoni: Right? Always in motion is the future. This is where I can be very vague and quizzical. [Laughs]

Source. It's a pretty good interview.

The vague ending might make for the series having a longer life.  I can't help but feel that they would like to install Ashoka as the Yoda of the next group of films, so end the series now.  She figures out some 'side' of the force the Ep1-6 Jedi's forgot, and her older self can play some small pivotal role in the newer movies.
