If there was a way of getting the blade to switch off on screen (even if it was only the tail end) that would be cool.

For reals, ignore him, ignore him now before its too late :p
To all you poeple who have a problem with me, really, what is it that I am doing that is so offensive/annoying? I'm just asking questions. There's problably a good handfull of you that already ignored me so hopefully someone will reply with this quote so you can all see it, but I want to know what it is I am doing that is so annoying? If you guys are pissed off about the donations, I donated now, so the bickering can stop. But to keep the record straight, I never said I was going to donate, I was seeing if others would donate the same amount with me, nobody return my offering so I didn't donate. I appologize to those who misunderstood me.
YOUR FROM THE SIXTIES Get back while you still can BACK TO THE SIXTIES.
"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

I think I'm going to make my own fan-edit, it is going to subtly improve upon Adywan's Revisited. It is mostly going to be fixing the remaining continuity errors and removing and changing a few sounds and lines of dialogue.
First, I will be fixing the "Octopus Droid" continuity errors.
Second, I will be reducing and removing the sounds made by the Dewbacks.
Third, I will be re-inserting Luke's original dialog seen here (I like it better, I like the tone in his voice better, just because he really does return doesn't mean he can't say never):
Forth, I will be adding blue hue to the cockpit windows seen here:
Fifth, I will show an extended version of the Millenium Falcon coming out of hyperspace seen in ROTJ:
Sixth, I will be removing the "Wookies are known to do that" line. Unnecessary dialogue.
Seventh, I will be adding red flares to the backs of all the Tie Fighters missing them.
Eighth, I will be changing the explosion of the Death Star to be more realistic. Right now it explodes like a balloon filled with gas that was lit by a lighter. I want it to explode slower and start with flames shooting out of it, accumulating bigger and bigger until it breaks apart in big chunks.
That's all I can think of at the moment, I will update this periodically as I come up with more stuff.
And why on earth we have to see the same post in two different topics?...

Well, at least it's in the right thread here.
Lets hope that remains here ;)

Kurgan said:That reminds me... in the SE "extended Yavin Battle" CGI... all the X-wings have the markings for Red 2 (two hatch marks on the wings). Adywan fixed it so that it reflects the proper pilot, except in one major shot I noticed... where Luke is flying away from the TIE and is saying "I can't shake him" the next big shot we see two hatch marks when we should see five.
I haven't spotted this yet, I'll look into it.
I personally can't see how Han's smile is out of character or how removing it enhances the scene.
Obi-wan has just admitted that it's not just a simple passenger run and Han is smiling because he knows the job isn't going to be easy (and he may make more money because of it).
It's the non-verbal equivalent of the, "Yeah, right" he gives to Luke later in the scene.
Or, he's thinking 'Oh, no questions asked, huh? Whatever, grandpa.' Then Obi-Wan lays the "I" word on him and suddenly it's not a joke anymore.
That's exactly what I've always thought, Ripplin.

A) if you going to remove every non-essential line from the film you will end up with an almost silent movie, real life is full of non-essential information which provides colour and flavour to life. People don't spend their time just saying pertinant things, which is one of the reasons why much of the dialogue in the PT seems forced, it's mostly exposition and people don't talk that way so it doesn't sit well when they do it in fictional drama.
B) I think the line is pretty much essential as I explained earlier. It demonstrates the relationship between droids and non-droids, and provides us with a bit of character set up for the droids, Chewie and Han.
Like removing the Han smile I can't see how removing the line improves the scene in anyway.
You seem to be making changes just for the sake of making changes.
Changes should only be made when the material as it currently is causes or adds to a problem and removing it improves or clarifies some aspect of the story.
In this case the line doesn't cause any problems, in fact it serves a purpose and removing it improves and clarifies nothing.
* Removed rant at Janskeet. Never mind *
'Ignore' works a lot better than ranting does, Darth Lars. I've been Janskeet-free for awhile now, and my blood pressure is much better for it! :)
Actually, I'd recommend that everyone who finds his comments annoying and distasteful 'ignore' him; it seems the vast majority of posts these days are hostile responses to his verbal incontenence. Such hostility is, for the most part, quite deserved, but the sheer volume of enraged rejoinder only serves to bog the board down and derail topics; if we all just 'ignored' the troll, rational conversation could resume. And without the attention feeding his ego, he'd probably get bored and wander off to some other corner of the internet before too long...

Let janskeet do what he is going to do in his supposed fan edit. It isnt like he is building a time machine and destroying the movie. Its not like you have to watch it. Let him try it out. Atleast he will be happy. Ok janskeet get busy stop saying what you are gonna do and do the thing. Theres no time to lose. Good luck, I am gonna be frank. You really need to think about if you really want to do it before you start. I will tell you it takes dedication. When I say that I mean. You will get tired of this if you really work hard. You will be drained. You will start hating the project but do not get discouraged. And remember patience.

Yeah this is especially going to be hard doing it all on MS paint ;-).
I find the Revisited crawl text to be too orange for my taste. I don't like where Adywan chose the music cues to happen either, I liked it to happen right at the title of the movie, not right at the episode number.
I like the color of the text in the ROTJ crawl and I like the timing of the music in the ROTJ crawl too. The blue stars have got to go though. I'm guessing it is the same in ESB, but I'm too lazy to check. I was hoping I could fix this myself, but learning how to use After Effects is taking me a lot long than I was hoping.
Coming from the '04 DVDs, it looks like ESB is quite a bit oranger than ROTJ. It also has the awful blue stars.

Did you know that Ady's ESB blue starfield is gone now?

Now I do :-)
Janskeet, i've been reading a lot of what you are intending to do in your edit in this thread an others and many of the things have me completely baffled. you seem to be ripping the movie apart without any proper thought. For one, you mention the colour of the crawl to be too "orange" and that you prefer the ROTJ crawl colour. Well are you working on a colour calibrated monitor because if you are not you are not seeing the true colours of anything. The ROTJ crawl is horribly washed out. you also pointed out that the blue hue is missing form the cockpit windows. well it shouldn't be there at all anyway. you need to check to see just how thick the cockpit is and you will see that this is the thickness of the window frames and it is in shadow ( which has been tinted blue which you would see if you have a calibrated monitor).
there seems to be many things that you are taking out just because you don't understand them, which is a very bad mistake in my opinion.
Now i don't mind people using my edit for their own edits but its looking like your just going to rip it apart without any proper thought or understanding and with you doing it to something i put in a lot of time and effort to create i'm kind of concerned about this. You mention that you going to be changing some of the Fx shots too so you will have to learn to use an FX program like After Effects. Maybe you would be better off using the original Star Wars for this instead of my edit. If this is just going to be a personal project for yourself then fair enough, but if you intend to do all these things and then release it then, after seeing what you are intending to do, i would prefer it if you didn't use my edit for this.

I'm curious about what you mean by 'flatter'.
Star Wars Episode XXX: Erica Strikes Back
If you want Nice, go to France
the direction, ESB and ROTJ is less angled looking
maybe its just the fact that the title is just A NEW HOPE

Adywan, thanks for reminding me about the colour calibration. I thought my monitor was colour calibrated because I did it when I first got my monitor, but then I remembered that I reinstalled Windows XP on my computer 3 months ago so I need to recalibrate it. I think my monitor colours are still good though. I have a widescreen 1440 x 900 LCD Viewsonic. I happen to like the yellow color of the text in the ROTJ crawl. I know that is probably not what was deliberate or originally intended, but I like it that way and like what I said to ChainsawAsh (which pissed him off) that's the way I want it so I will make it that way for myself. I like the music timing in the ROTJ crawl too so I will change the crawl to move at the rate that is syncronized with ROTJ.
As far as the cockpit thing goes, I understand the thickness of the cockpit windows, but I think there should be more blue shining through the windows in that shot, but that is just my opinion.
I don't know what you think I'm doing that is "ripping it apart" it's mostly just enhancements of a few shots and a few removals of sounds and dialog.
I don't plan on making this edit for the public, but if I do, I will PM you it first either through rapidshare or youtube and you can approve of it before I give public acces to it. Fair enough? I want to use you version because the idea of this edit is to finish fixing all the continiuty erros left by you (not that there is a lot, or any of major importance) But this will probably never be finished anyways. I don't think I will have the patience to learn After Effects.
