160 Euros is probably like five billion USD, but I’ll see what I can do.

LOL! Thanks 😉

I have some more questions about the US version:

  1. Am I correct in assuming that the previously mentioned 16mm prints have mono sound that can be made complete? If so, will that be included on the US cut release, or just LD audio?

  2. Am I also correct in assuming that the first grindhouse release (and possibly the cleaned up too?) will just be the corrected scan with it’s Italian audio? Or will an English track be synced with all releases?

Thanks for any answers. 😄

I received answers to your questions, sorry if in some way they contradict anything that I might have said before:

Yes the 16mm mono English audio can be included on future releases.
Yes, the first grind house would be just the Italian release with Italian audio, it cannot be easily synced up with English audio as it is a different cut but if anyone wants to create a hybrid version with English audio dubbed-in while waiting on the proper release it’s not a problem from our end.
The proper American cut with original English audio will be released after the complete digital clean-up of the film.

The 16mm version will probably be released in some form. I don’t know how far along that project is these days though.

I hope your full-screen 16mm is somewhere in it’s future. (Between all the different media, missing frames and such would be easy to spot.) (… not to mention the different versions at different times.)

Thanks for the answers. I hope someone can make a hybrid to hold over till the proper English release, because I don’t think I’d like watching it Italian dubbed 😉.

If it’s the same as the old Italian tv recording that’s been preserved, it won’t be hard to sync up the english subtitles created for that in the short term.

I think Puggo did a capture a few years ago, but I don’t have a copy of it. It wouldn’t be too hard to rescan it I guess? It’s in rough shape though.

The first grindhouse release will just serve the purpose of having something concrete so that people who kindly donated won’t have to wait months before seeing anything at all.

I did already make Ebglish subtitles though.

I could make a quick English version edit from the grindhouse version. Shouldn’t take me too long. Would people prefer…

  1. The original theatrical version or the 1st director’s cut (the LD version)?

  2. is there anything inherently wrong with the LD audio? I would think it would be the highest quality version available…

If someone can do an audio presentation of an English language track from out of the LD or Blu Ray, then this American-Boy would appreciate it.😃Unfortunately, I don’t have the patience to read subtitles and look at the film images for an entire feature-length time.

If the first thing that gets released is a get-and-dirty, grindhouse Italian edition, then this edition, combined with the edit of a English audio track would tide me over until the next version arrives.

I’m starting to warm-up to the grindhouse quality of popular films, so, this said version will be welcomed with me.

I don’t know how the audio for the this-is-a-record-of-my-escape prelude will be handled. Perhaps, one could leave the Italian audio from the film there and use English subtitles.

I’d say go with the LD version, or just whatever will be easier/faster.

The easiest and quickest thing is to take the audio from laserdisc and use the video from the first grindhouse release for a makeshift English version that will have to do until the proper restoration arrives.

We just didn’t want people having to wait months with absolutely nothing in their hands after helping us out so much with donations

It’s relatively simple to do: just get a rip of the English version, say the laserdisc, along with it’s high quality audio, and load it on your timeline. Resize the ld video so it only takes up a corner. Then import just the video of the Italian print and cut and paste the shots so both images are in sync. Erase the video of the ld and then export. Voila.

For this particular project, you’d need to also find a different source for the titles and the Buck Rodgers serial at the beginning.

I’d think the LD would be easier: better audio and less worries of lost frames.

For the quick English release, the titles and infographics from Bluray will have to do I guess. They’ll just be cleaner 😛

What graphics did they re-do!?

Just monitor close-ups when THX is looking for LUH on the computer and finds out that her name has been reassigned to a foetus, or in other little moments at the beginning of the film. I don’t think these were changed at all for the bluray.

Author

Ah I see… The bluray would probably have to do in this case. The 16mm is cropped and has no color so that would be more trouble than it’s worth to fix.

The Blu-ray is modified for the text on screen when it says

Add info:

Subjecte…

(deletes the word Subjecte before “SEN”).

I think I re-made this using the other text of the word “Subjecte” for my release, and re-timed it. So one could do that, or use my version. Though I can’t seem to find the raw file, so it’s a 720p encode that exists now.

As for the 16mm transfer, it does have color. Just a matter of how much can be recovered. Someone suggested that it varies throughout.

Also, the blu-ray has altered text color for some of the on-screen display stuff. But that can be adjusted of course.

An English version of the Italian cut is a neat idea! Why didn’t we think of this before?

Because you would miss the voice-over intro that introduces the story, which is the whole point of that cut ahah

I would watch a version that was subtitled for that part and English for the rest! 😃

Well, I’m just kidding guys, you can do whatever version you like while waiting on the real deal.

Maybe there’s a soundalike who could dub it? 😉
