Aren’t all the contributors listed in the first post still? I think he can just check there to see who all gave a little bit.

Not all of them. But as others have said, this isn’t a reward posting, it’s for assistance. 😃

My apologies. I was unaware of those who had offered to squash some bugs.

I had to use infinit as the file was larger than 2GB with the audio, and I needed something with resuming as my internet craps out all the time, so you will need to get infinit if you want to take a look at it.
It is free, https://infinit.io/?referral=poita and if you use my referral, we both get an extra half gig of storage which would be very useful going forwards for this project, …

With not allot of spare time, I probably wouldn’t make much of a dent in your license count-down, but I tried to install the Infinit app for you to get that extra 1/2 GB of storage. Only, the installer doesn’t install – just times-out, no activity, no errors, and then … nothing.

Infinit forums & Internet searching can’t find others with this problem. I guess I should feel honored (program bugs tend to jump out of hiding when I’m at the keyboard). It’s great when I’m paid to do it, but it puts a crimp in my normal productivity. 😃

Is just DL'ing the installer through your link enough to get you that extra storage?

Quick question. What thread should we post in for THX-1138, generally speaking? This one or the original, longer one? I realize that we got different preservations going on at the same time, and it makes sense to post in each one respectively, but I was thinking maybe they should be consolidated at this point? This one with: http://originaltrilogy.com/topic/THX-1138-preservations/id/11741

I feel like this thread was created for donations, and now that it’s been successful, we can go back to posting in the other one?

Thoughts?

Author
Time

It was. At the same time the old one is too long to easily navigate and this one also allows donators to keep track of the progress.

But I’m open to suggestions from everybody.

As I understand it, the immediate funding to get things rolling has gotten things rolling. But there still are more expenses to see the project through. That includes more funds for such things as high-capacity, high-speed hard drives (and double+ that for back-ups and work areas), professional software license fees, additional equipment & software as the situation demands, utilities (electricity and air conditioning aren’t free). But most important is a steady stream of choco-latte to keep poita going 24-7 !

As Poita is working for us, the first offspring of this project has already come to life as Mavimao made use of this material to whip up a quick&dirty English version for us enjoy now while we wait for the main course. Here’s the thread http://originaltrilogy.com/topic/THX-1138-1st-Directors-Cut-35mm-Grindhouse-Edition/id/49918/ go check it out.

Also, don’t forget about our angel Poita, if anyone still wants to help him out you can do so by donating a bit of your spare change.

is grindhouse version of italian cut possible at some point?

Italian cut is the same as the US theatrical cut apparently, that’s what Poita is working on. So a grindhouse of that will be the first to arrive, once the color alignment is sorted. Correct me if I’m wrong Poita.

A true grindhouse would have the colour misalignment, as that is what is on the print 😃

What resolution, filesize would people want a grindhouse to be, and would you prefer the intermission cards left in or removed? Colour aligned or not? (It won’t realign perfectly unfortunately, but can be improved a lot), missing frames left as is?

Cast your votes here.

And yes, more funds for more HDDs would be great, as I am currently working without a net, and it has already cost me time when the RAID0 working space decided to ‘unraid’ a few days ago, costing me a couple of days tedious work to have to redo.

As thxita said, the Italian cut is the same as the US theatrical (I know, I watched them side by side). Now what exactly do you want? Just a raw scan of the Italian version with Italian voices and titles and computer screens? Poita has already released this.

Something in English? I have done a version where I synced an English track to the raw scan and replaced the titles. That’s in the link above.

What’s the internal temperature of a TaunTaun? Luke warm.

Wait, the Italian print has an intermisson?

It does! Quite funny actually. It’s just two title cards, one says “fine di 1 partia” or something like that and the second one says beginning of 2nd part.

Weird! I usually associate intermissions with much longer films. Where did it appear? Did they try to match the font of the film? I wonder if there was intermission music?

I recall it being a very simple title card, no special font.

i would vote for the grindhouse to have:
1080p at around 20 gb, so that we can see all those scratches nice and crisp
no strong feelings about title cards
realign color unless it messes with scratches somehow?
leave missing frames missing

I understood poita released a low res version. What I had in mind is something along the lines of Harmy’s grindhouse Jedi.
BD compliant, italian audio. While not a must, synced to L’uomo che fuggi del futuro DVD would be a plus 😄

I feel like full 1080p would be beneficial (I’ll only be viewing on 720p or 768p, but thinking of others 😄). For the intermissions, I personally wouldn’t like it, but if others want them I don’t care. Colour allignment yes! As much as can be done, that is.

EDIT: Would the grindhouse include English audio? Since it’s the same as the US cut apparently, would it be easy to sync?

THE SUN RACES THROUGH A BLUE SKY FILLED WITH WHITE CLOUDS.

Well the highest quality English audio is the laserdisc and this is edited to the 1st director’s cut. It’d be easy to re-edit to the theatrical cut since it’s simply just a couple of scenes re arranged. The only tricky spot would be the extended scene with the children and SEN towards the end, but the 16mm sound would suffice.

Wouldn’t the 16mm sound be more fitting for a Grindhouse release?

Author

The 16 might be more fitting and it could work. You make the 35 the reference track and you cut up the 16 mm accordingly.

In my own humble opinion, the sound on this film is really incredible - probably the greatest thing about it - and should be heard in the best possible quality.

BTW, here are screenshots of the Intermission title cards. They appear between the scenes where THX is being taunted by the guards in the white ‘jail’ and the one of him being ‘tortured’ with invisible forces while two off-screen voices talk about… something.

I agree with this. BD25 sized (though I’d download a BD50), missing frames left out rather than black frames or duplicate frames. That’s a good point about the damage and color alignment. Could the alignment shift cause the scratches to actually be wider? I would say no intermission cards but wouldn’t be bothered by them.

Edit: After reading where the intermission occurs, I would definitely prefer it without.
