Damn, guys. This is a shame. The voice I used in the second clip is further back in the throat and fuller sounding, however my recording device isn’t able to pick up the bass as well and makes it sound tinny. That was very apparent in your clip, Hal. I’m still an advocate for that voice as it is closer sounding to the original, but the voice I used in the first clip is more nasally and forward in the mouth and is clearly picked up better with my limited equipment.

Hal, perhaps another one of the “original” clips could work? I can try to send a couple more recordings tomorrow, but I won’t be able to use professional equipment for another week and a half and it would be awesome to get this out as soon as possible. In other words, I may be reaching my limits as far as what I can offer.

I could help with audio processing for the final touch once you have the recording you want, but not until January so I’ll leave you to it for now. Nice work.

Okay folks, I’ll get something recorded in early January. And if the other submissions work out better/quicker then that’s even better!

Me neither (or I just got distracted when I watched the movie !). TLJ has somehow “overlaped” TFA in my mind so I now tend to see “broken” links between both of them whereas there is none (at least for the Rey related lines I though were an issue). So… that’s good ! 😃

About the tech guy, the new line is “Weapon fully recharged in 30 seconds” and no longer “Weapon fully reprimed in 30 seconds” ?

I don’t remember the exact wording, but I think there’s a line that could replace the “the republic is wreckage/has been swept aside” line. I just wonder if it would feel odd to have the exact same line in both TFA and TLJ. Perhaps it could be changed in some way. Once we have all the TLJ audio there’s a lot more to work with if we want to splice together a new line.

I think it’d work if Snoke said something inbetween.

Hux: The Republic is no more.
Snoke: Good. What about the Resistance? (this is made up as I don’t know his lines by heart)

It might be weird to go straight from, “The Republic is no more” to, “We have their location…” I think the scene is perfectly fine as it is in V2(.1), but I can’t rule out the possibility that compelling things like this will emerge.

Yeah, the conversation might flow weirdly. Either way, it’s a good suggestion, for another time.

I agree it would emphasize something already quite clear: the Republic has just been destroyed, now they prepare the next step. No time for celebration or else (it’s not as if Hux and Snoke seem to be the friendly kind anyway). Adding a dialogue is a good idea on paper but here it works without it (and for pace even a few more seconds can make a difference). If possible I think the best option would be to add a shot of Hux “smiling” when the Republic is destroyed (into the “destruction montage”) but I don’t know if there is enough material to add such a shot. I like the sequence as it is in v2. It flows well and there is nothing jarring.

Is Hux body going to be more cropped in the “begin charging weapon” shot by the way ?

Oh, absolutely. There’s no reason to rush v2.1 when the whole point is to polish off the roughness of v2.0, which was only “rushed out” to get it out there before TLJ.

Hal I just saw the edit, and HOT DAMN. The dramatic tension was way better in this version to the point that the Starkiller actually mattered to me. All you guys did great work, Wow. I also love R2 searching his database. 😃 Love it.

Having seen The Last Jedi, I thought it might be a good idea to edit the final duel a bit in The Force Awakens. Ren’s wound being in the wrong place is a bit jarring, but more than that, Knowing what’s coming vis Kylo and Rey gave me some ideas.

I think it would be good for the overall narrative for Rey not to kick Kylo’s ass in TFA. The duel should be cut in such a way that there is merely a stalemate, with Rey running and defending herself, until the crevice opens between her and Ren ending in stalemate.

Ren’s temporary scar could easily be explained as “he just got it while leaving the base.”

Rey beating Kylo so easily makes Kylo Ren seem very weak and ill suited to be worthy of his eventual arc in The Last Jedi since no time has passed between films.

If their duel ends in a stalemate, it leaves more room for the ambiguity that arises in the next film’s narrative. George and JJ initially developed Kylo Ren as “Jedi Killer,” not the “Emo Ren” who gets his ass handed to him by a neophyte.

After seeing the Last Jedi, it seems fitting that Kylo and Rey should have a stalemate (by Snoke’s design.)
