Playing -mpg, -mpeg, -mov and -avi files on my DVD player

I´ve got a Pioneer DVD player and want to be able to play some of my movie files (mpg, mpeg, avi etc.) on it. How do I do it? Do I need some special converter? My DVD player plays Video CD´s with no problem so that´s what I´m talking about. Btw, I´m using a Mac G5 with the OS X system. I´m hoping there is some free shareware or something that might let me do this. Don´t really want to spend much (or any) money on this.

Any help is appreciated. Cheers. ;-)

I think if you use Nero 6.0 you can convert any video file (maybe not .mov) by just going to the VCD or SVCD option, but it takes a really long time to convert. Thats the only way a computer n00b like me knows how to do it.

Nero 6.0 also lets you convert the files to MPEG-2 for recording on a DVD-R, but like Sessler said, it'll take awhile.

What player?

The recent Pioneer models (DV-470, DV-575) have MPEG-4 support and are therefore able to play AVI files burnt directly to a CD-R with no conversion.

Thanks for your info m8´s.

I´ve got a Pioneer 656A player and it basicly plays everything I throw at it. Haven´t tried playing avi´s on it yet and it doesn´t play straight mpg, mpeg or mov files. There needs to be some sort of conversion. I´m aiming for something like mpeg-2, right?

Also, is the Toast Titanium program a free download. I´ve searched for it and it seems to be a buy only kinda thing. Maybe you can point me in the "right direction".

No, that one won't play AVI files I'm afraid.

If the MPG/MPEG files you have are in MPEG-1 format that is VCD compliant (or SVCD-compliant MPEG-2) then no video conversion is necessary, but the disc must be authored with the correct VCD/SVCD structure for your player to recognise them correctly. Simply burning the MPG to an ISO data disc will not work.

I now ask you guys the opposite: how can I rip some scenes from a DVD into my computer? I wanna do a joke based on some scenes from TESB, using the DVD set, and I know how I'm going to do it, but I still don't know how can I get the scene I want.

YOU CAN DOWNLOAD IT FOR FREE ON MOST SITES. JUST DO A GOOD SEARCH FOR IT. WHEN YOU HAVE IT DOWNLOADED LET ME KNOW. I'LL GET YOU ALL SET UP WITH WHAT YOU NEED TO GET IT OPERATIONAL.
