Wow, that is interesting! I never noticed that.

It's also interesting, what the hell happened to those elements in the SE? They almost look like bad recreations rather than the original elements blown out.

That's awesome. I was just noticing that problem for the first time while watching your timing video just now.

Anyway, I've figured out part of the problem. There's an extra frame on the 2006 DVD somewhere during the pandown in frame 3022 of the GOUT, but not on Team Blu's verson of that DVD, which is GOUT source I assume Harmy is using. So that explains the match.

Oh, really? I'm really screwing up here with my assumptions, aren't I? I really though Project Blu was the same frame-wise as the GOUT and it was the only GOUT source I had on hand. Sorry about that. The mystery remains. So, in the GOUT proper that 3P0 frame would be 3033?

I was not referencing PAL material, but you do allude to the reason I always prefer film-scan-based sources, because between "ripping" oddities, 23.976>24fps conforming, etc., frames can easily be lost, doubled, etc. when working from DVD/BR sources.

Nope, it's the NTSC version. It was probably an importation problem, because I just quickly pulled it into an existing project. I'm getting a duplicated frame at random points in the video, so ignore my previous post.

I found something else which is strange. Mike talked about how the last two frames of the '81 version would have been "lopped off", and so I checked the '97 version against the Team Blu GOUT, and the final frame of the composited Star Destroyer is gone in the '97 version, however the laser blasts are still composited to be in the same place, meaning that the entire Star Destroyer is shifted back one frame in the '97 version compared to the original.

Download both images and flick between them. The Star Destroyer is at precisely the same angle in both, yet this is the second to last frame of the GOUT shot, and the last frame of the '97 shot.

I cannot understand why you get these frame mismatches, the complete crawl and flyover shot should be 2834 frames in lenght in all three versions. If I align my video sources of 1981 and 1997 versions against the NTSC 2006 DVD - Star Wars logo appears on frame 689 and the shot ends on frame 3522.

The original '77 End Credits starfield. The first end-to-end pass of Legacy is now complete.  The next 6 months or so will be spent finessing!

How do you know what kind of version Reliance is doing?

Well, that doesn't tell you what version it will be, does it?

There's no telling how much or how little Reliance is going to do. If it's being done for Disney, I'm not going to be too optimistic about it's future. I'm happy for the thought of an official restoration, but I've seen what Disney considers good enough too many times.

Disney doesn't care about Star Wars (the film).

Mike cares about Star Wars.

That's how it's going to be better.

Because Mike isn't doing it for money he's doing it for love. If you haven't seen the webcasts that he has done, you cannot appreciate the attention to detail and investment this man has put into this project.
