Drawing upon ferris209’s idea, I know I would just lose myself to tears if the ending scene was similar to Empire Strikes Back, where Leia’s remains are scattered across the last known space of Alderaan, as our fellow Resistance fighters salute, and then the film draws to a close into the credits…
I know people must be apprehensive about Episode 8 being a clone of ESB just as TFA was an ANH clone, but if it had to end on a bittersweet end just as ESB did, I would be in favor of that kind of ending for VIII…

If her role and performance in Ep 8 will be as unimpressive as it was in TFA, Star Wars should be moving forward normally.
However, I do agree that she deserves a scene in Ep 9.

There are so many over-exaggerated opinions in this thread about the impact of Fisher on the new trilogy. I am an honest person. I gave a realistic appraisal. And I did so in a civil and respectful manner.
taking a cheap shot at someone’s acting (even if you were right, which you may be), is not respectful.
Since when is being honest and realistic a “cheap shot” or disrespectful? Do you take a cheap shot at and being disrespectful to Hayden when you say his acting in PT was unimpressive?

If someone cannot stand the fact that we talk about Carrie’s last role and how it may be in the subsequent films (which is a determining part of finding out how to move forward without her), they should not visit this thread. It’s like going into a spoiler thread and complaining that some people are talking about something “too soon”. And that you have to catch insults for your statement is just ridiculous.
Warbler also makes a valid point. Nobody else than Carrie’s family could be the moral instance for deciding if the CGI is appropriate. If they say no, then Disney will certainly find another good way. Especially with that extra 41 Million dollar budget that ferris209 linked.

About CGI characters:
CGI characters in live action movies has always been a dicey proposition, and one metaphor for this is a pre-recorded magic act. The audience at home wants to be fooled by a variety of magician’s tricks, but they usually don’t want to be fooled by deceptive video editing or people who have been ‘planted’ in the crowd specifically for the trick. In other words, people want to be fooled in some ways but not in others. CGI for me too often feels like a trick of the latter category. Some computer generated elements are acceptable, even expected in movies now, just as flashy lights and graphics in a magic show serve to embellish the theatricality of the act, but when the act itself is a deception, this breaks the unspoken agreement between audience and movie.
That’s just a long winded way of saying that Tarkin and Leia in Rogue One felt like a deception rather than a magic trick. Furthermore, in the case of Tarkin, he distracted from the primary villain: Krennick. Vader is a special case, since he has always been played by multiple actors. As long as James Earl Jones provides the voice, I have no problem with him being a secondary villain.
As far as Leia in Episode IX, I think there are far better ways to complete the trilogy than turning her into a CGI puppet. I would rather watch the movie magic of our new generation of leads than the deception of a corporation with too much money and too little sense.

It would be strange seeing two cgi versions of leia, a younger princess leia at the end of rogue one then an older leia in ep 9. I myself wouldn’t mind but undoubtedly people will still be annoyed and complain about it.
Well, they handled Paul Walker’s character pretty well in Furious 7 with the combination of body double and CGI and gave him a nice send off. If that means anything.

I think that someone who doesn’t know Cushing is dead would assume that it was a real person and be totally fooled. In my opintion they did a fantastic job.
