Hello everyone. My apologies for the scarcity of updates. Good news. The edit is done.

I was going to give up on a color correction, but then I just decided to just remove all of the color correction I had done and start over. I’m extremely happy with the results. Here’s the rundown:

-The blue hue is greatly lessened throughout if not completely removed in certain scenes
-The entire film has been brightened by a factor of x.25 or x.5 depending on the scene
-The snow scenes have been corrected to have white snow
-The interior of the falcon is white and the blue shadows are shifted towards grey
-The entire film has received a color sharpening by a factor of x.25 , x.5 or x.75 depending on the scene
-The color and brightness of Niima Outpost has been left untouched
-Proxima’s liar retains the blue lights as they’re essential to the worms

As I don’t create cases or discs for my own edits I’m only going to include posters for the release for those who have media servers like Plex. I’ve updated the OP with the new posters and updated logo.

I wanted to thank everyone who has shown interest and patience during the nearly 8 months it has taken to get from idea to finished project. The edit will be available through the usual chain by tomorrow evening.

Watched it, huge improvement all round especially with the color grading and brightness which allows you to SEE what’s happening contrary to the original. One thing I wish was altered though is the blue lighting in Lady Proxima’s lair, the cuts made really improve the pacing and make it less fan servicy (Mual I’m looking at you), overall I’d highly recommend this as a worthy alternative to the original.

The restoring of the blue in Proxima’s lair was a late change. Feedback I had received indicated the scene was too dark after removing the blue tint. I also have blue lights in my house so I figured it was natural especially because it’s implied that the worms need the light to exist in the open air.

Yes I totally see where your coming from, I just think the bleached look you get from removing the tint gives the scene a very grounded and gritty look which really emphasises the impoverished state that Han is living in

I may make a V2 that is a bit more aggressive with the color. Originally I had made the entire tie fighter chase scene devoid of blue along with all of the cockpit shots throughout the movie. I couldn’t extract the skin tones from the blue light so it just ended up looking like a super desaturated picture with crazy colorful LEDs everywhere.

Do you have a color corrected version of the original film? I’d love to just have a version with your color correction.

No, but I could go back and copy the fx into the scenes. I’m glad people seem to be liking the color correction. This film nearly broke me due to the battling with the color. Knowing others are favorable to the color scheme makes me feel like maybe I got a little better on that skill 😃

Yes great idea, since colour is very subjective making an alternative would appeal to even more people

"I finally got around to giving this edit a watch, and I was not disappointed. I haven’t given this film the same sort of close look I have to the saga films, and remember my three previous viewings as somewhat ho-hum. I really enjoyed it this time around, with DigMod’s edit flashing across my screen. In fairness, it might be partly due to having given Solo a rest and returning later with fresh eyes. It wasn’t until I read the cutlist that I started to remember bits and pieces that he had removed seamlessly.

If you’d have asked me, I would have told you I didn’t think optical wipe transitions would have been necessary, and I don’t think they are, but they really did feel nice to have. The visual work that (I’m told, because I sure wouldn’t have noticed) was necessary in a few places was seamless, as was 100% of the audio work. I listened on a good (stereo) system and noticed no issues, and I’m somewhat of a stickler on that stuff. I wonder if it would have been better to allow the “we’ll have you flying in no time” gag to remain since the added optical wipe transition there does not allow for any new material to be seen.
The opening ‘Fox’ fanfare and SW opening crawl worked better than I thought they would, though I would still prefer if the same content were presented with the blue ALTAIAGFFA text. Just a personal preference; the editor’s intentions are implemented effectively.

The film doesn’t feel edited at all, apart from the opening crawl. I appreciate giving the implication that Han came up with the ‘Solo’ surname himself, rather than a hokey moment in which an Imperial officer assigns it to him. In the new canon, we know Solo was an improvised name anyway, so this change almost certainly won’t be sniped by any future Star Wars works. Removing the Maul cameo was much appreciated, and removes a serious WTF moment many audience members had who hadn’t cared to venture deep into what I still consider to be rather ugly cartoons. L3 wasn’t nearly as annoying this time around, though there were only a few moments I consciously noted had been removed as I was watching, the remainder going undetected.

I was genuinely surprised at the extent to which I enjoyed my viewing experience, and it seems this edit is greater than the sum of its individual trims. Fantastic work; it makes me glad that I don’t have to trudge into the muck of this film myself. Very, very well done."

I’ll be releasing a v2 of this edit that addresses a stutter as the Falcon takes off, adjusts the starfield movement during the transition scene to Mimban and adds an explosion to when the first uncoupled train cars hit the floor of the ravine. Looking forward to a V2. I’m not sure what your source is, perhaps the BluRay or iTunes version or something, but I encourage exporting at the maximum settings that make any sort of sense, if you haven’t already.

I’m planning to tweak your edit just slightly by restoring the original opening style and the “we’ll have you flying in no time” gag, just for personal, non-shared enjoyment.

• After crawl and planet pan open with Han a Quira escaping on speeder and rework the crawls text to fit.
• Less in your face lucky dice shots
• Add deleted scene where he gets demoted to the infantry
• No Han getting the blaster from Becket.
• Cut most of Han speaking wookie.
• When formerly introduced to Chewie, cut out Han saying “Chewbacca” as it sounded patronizing
• Fix the over the top score which makes your ears bleed about half way through the train heist or cut heist down.
• Val does not sacrifice herself stupidly she just gets blown up by the droids.
• Cutdown the kiss between Han & Quira in the falcon by cutting to Becket as to similar to Empires Han & Leia kiss in falcon.
• Cut L3 fist pumping the air and shouting “Rebellion!” at the spice mines
