Just sent you a PM and a myspleen invite, Hostmaster. You should be able to get them there. If you have any questions PM me back.

First off all, thanks dark_jedi, these look amazing. I have older GOUT sourced DVDs, and these are noticeably better. They are very watchable even on a large HDTV.

Can someone send me a myspleen invite? I was able to snag Star Wars and Jedi from another source, but not Empire, and I'd love the whole set.

Thanks!

I had no idea that people had gone to these lengths to give us what Lucasfilm so cruelly denies - thanks for all your hard work!

I would love a myspleen invite if there are any going...

I had more time this weekend to watch the three Dark_Jedi v3 DVDs.  I'm still impressed by the quality, and enjoyed them very much.

The only other piece of constructive criticism I have revolves around gamma/black levels.  Actually, I think black levels are fine, but gamma is off.  This makes the picture appear too dark in the 10-40IRE range.

It will be interesting to compare these to the upcoming official Blu-rays.  Although those will have faults of their own, they should be mastered with the appropriate levels and gamma curves.

Dark_Jedi, if you have any comments about the reference you used for setting the gamma, I would be interested in learning more.  Just to make sure everything was set up properly on my end, I spent 3 hours on Saturday (re)calibrating my plasma for grayscale and a 2.2 gamma curve.  The darkness I noticed in the DVDs did not change.  I actually didn't need any gamma recalibration, I was just verifying measurements via Chroma5 meter and CalMAN software.

Well, Dark_Jedi is retiring from creating new DVDs.  You're going to have to ask someone else.  I reread your post.  Sorry....

The franchises I get nerdy about are so obscure that not even most nerds know about them.

I can appreciate that.  I'm sure I'd be burned out too, if I saw them even half the times he watched 'em!

I'm just trying to understand where/if there is room for improvement.  I am no expert in video editing software, but correcting gamma would seem to be one of the easier tasks.

The thing is that the GOUT is a bit to washed out and needs a bit of dark level boost (I haven't really seen that much of V3, so I don't know how dark it is, but if it's anything like Project Blu, I think DJ struck the darkness levels just right). And believe me, the official blu-rays are way worse in that aspect, as they're the same transfer as the 2004 DVDs, which had severely crushed blacks.

Just sent out some MySpleen invites. If any of them don't work, just ask me for another, though I only have two left.

First of all, EVERYONE HERE IS AMAZING.

I had started doing some editing projects of my own on the prequels, just for fun, and decided to see what more professional editors had accomplished...

They've accomplished quite a lot, it seems.

Anyway, not to be a total leech, but... I would LOVE a Myspleen invite to snag these babies.

I'm just starting to explore this forum, and I'm thrilled to see so many accomplished restorationists taking on this challenge!

I, too, would be very grateful for a MySpleen invite, if anyone is offering. I had an account a long time ago, back when it was still MySpleen.net ... I somehow missed the changeover, and haven't been able to log in since. (EDIT: THANKS to dark_jedi for the invite! Very much appreciated!)

BTW, Dark Jedi got me one, so I'm good...

I also just realized that he asked to be PM'd a bit back on the thread, instead of clogging up this board. Figured I'd pass that along to any new posters who, like myself, had to immediately post out of excitement.

AH, if you post in the thread that is cool, I totally forgot about all the excitement from the recent Blu-ray Set findings, and I can understand being excited, I have been there myself before, so go ahead and PM, post in thread, it's all good.

I know I said I am going to retire from anything DVD LOL, but I am considering 1 thing, and it really would not be that hard, or take much time, but I may do new encodes for the V3 DVD Set and upload the new video files for those that may want to swap them out, the new encodes will be encoded from the 720p Blu-ray lossless avi file I have, some have shown interest in this so I am thinking about it, plus ANH has a couple of real bad frames fixed, and ESB has a ton of them fixed, so we will see.

That's something I would be very interested in! I'm curious, though, how does one replace the video?

I imagine just another technical skill to acquire and conquer...

Hey, another question...

When burning with ImgBurn, what should I do about the layer break? It asks where to insert it, or if it's seamless. Never burned DL before. If there's a better program you recommend burning with, I would try that instead.

ImgBurn is still my preferred disc burning application.

Position of the layer breaks was mentioned back in Post 1777. It is safer (for player compatibility) to leave the seamless flag off.

Although I myself am eagerly awaiting the Project Blu trilogy, I can think of a number of family and friends without blu-ray playing capabilities who I'd love to be able to pass along a new V3 set to (perhaps we should avoid confusion by labelling it V3.1 or V4?).

DJ, do you anticipate there being a noticeable difference in video quality if you were to re-encode?  If so, what would be different?

Hi everybody!

Although this is my first post I've been reading this site forum for a long time about the magnificent preservation projects you guys deliver. :) So I became very excited hearing dark_jedi's V3 version is complete (and the blueray version is on it's way to release). It seems to me the ultimate version of the original unaltered trilogy which I fell in love with many years ago. Actually was lucky enough to have TESB as my very first move experience around 82-83 at the age of 6-7. From then always compared other movies to that mindblowing experience I had then, only few delivered. I'm very sad what Lucas makes of his legend the last 15 years but you guys do everything to remedy it. Thank you (especially dark_jedi). :)

Used to have a myspleen account when I downloaded Moth3r's LDrip versions but haven't logged in for a few years so it's lost now. So an invitation would be very appreciated. :)

Greetings from Hungary

I just found this website. I'm so disappointed with the upcoming Blu Ray and looking for the Star Wars I grew up with. Can anyone send me the invitation?

I'm interested too, dj!

I just finished downloading all v3 films last night and I was going to get some DVD-DLs today, but if this is a good possibility then I'll wait. As someone else posted, these would be v3.1 or v4, right?

Thx.

I do not fear the Dark Side as you do.

Hey folks, came across this thread after googling for alternatives to the BluRay release (after discovering the new farcical edits that have been made to ANH/ROTJ) - I was really looking forward to seeing it in HD but after having already bought the movies individually in the 90's and the boxsets 3 or 4 times since.. I guess for now I'll be sticking with my trusty (if a tad ugly looking on a HD screen) theatrical DVDs instead.

Any chance of a MySpleen invite? I'd love to check out the V3 release. Cheers and thanks for all your hard-work, glad there are still people out there that care.
