agreed. To further make my point, I don't care one bit about Leia's, Han's, and Luke's kids and grandkids in the EU. Abrams, feel free to act like they don't exist and create different kids and grandkids.

And I'd love if Episode 7 establishes that the Empire died with Palpatine in ROTJ (unless the Empire has a role in episodes 7-9).

Jacen and Anakin are OK, to me.

Jaina is a drama queen and mistress of all trades. I was never able to stomach her chapters in New Jedi Order.

On 'The Replica Prop Forum' Replica Astromech maker 'R2Dan' posted about the Twitter photo:

"That's a fanmade R2 - Oliver Steeples is in the pic and this is his droid. An R2 builders council member and a top guy, I might add. I sent him a quick message, here's what he replied:
"Oh that. Me and jj hanging out you mean. They wanted some reference r2 stuff and jj wanted his photo taken, was very lucky"

Whatever that means... will try and squeeze some more info out of him "

Well J.J.'s wearing the requisite 'check shirt' now I see...so can the 'trimmed beard' be far behind? ;)

Quality of the actual finished movie aside, I previously kept a lookout for every scrap of information I could find out about 'Episode I' *before* it's release in 1999...and ended up ruining a lot of the surprises for myself about the characters, storyline, and design work it contained...

So now that things are beginning to ramp up again on a sequel to ROTJ where anything might happen...I've decided that I'm gonna try and *avoid* as much info. as possible this time around...including this particular thread from today onwards!...

...which won't be easy, as there's bound to be plenty of stuff I'll inadvertently come across regarding 'Episode VII', no matter how hard I try not to.  However, I won't actively go looking for any details like I did in the past, so that the majority of this particular chapter will hopefully end up seeming as fresh as possible to me overall, when I eventually sit down to watch it in the cinema with the family.

It might be interesting to eventually wade through the reveals/speculation/hopes that this thread throws up *after* I've actually seen the movie, but I'll wait and see how many pages it has by that time!  In the meantime, I'll leave you all with a couple of thoughts before you carry on with your future contemplations -

1.  'Headline' spoilers are gonna be *real difficult* to avoid on the net and other media as the movie approaches...but I won't be buying the 'soundtrack score' or reading it's 'track titles' beforehand, if it comes out before I catch the movie.  Can't wait to hear what John Williams comes up with this time around...but as that might end up one of the movie's best aspects, I'll definitely wait to hear it accompany the movie itself, first.

2.  Now that a new release date of December 2015 has supposedly been put in place, I guess that means a lot of related 'toy'/assorted merchandise will show up to hit the shelves in plenty of time for Christmas that year.  Plenty of potential spoilers there before the movie's release no doubt, so I'll have to be especially wary in the run-up to the release around then!...

3.  Just a last observation...it seems like the two new young characters that are currently still to be cast have reasonably 'straighforward' names compared to some of the more colourful ones in the 'Star Wars' galaxy - namely 'Thomas' and 'Rachel'...

'Luke' was certainly a 'straightforward' first name too, compared to say, 'Obi-Wan' or 'Anakin' etc., but at this point I don't know if their second name will be 'Solo' or 'Skywalker' or even 'Organa' (hey, who says things worked out with 'Han' at the end of the day?...maybe Leia eventually ditched him...).

Either way, I'd really like to keep that a mystery until at least the first trailer appears, if I can.  One way or another though, I hope to sit down to this one without knowing most of what's coming...  Good luck if any of you feel like trying to do the same. :)

I'm more afraid of the PT influencing the EU.

That was the problem after 1999, then it became retconning the EU to fit the second animated clone wars.  Which happened with fate of the jedi and crucible where they reference mortis from the clone wars.

Funny thing is they did not remake the Mandolorians into the clone wars variety they skipped over that entirely.  They are still the same 2 dimensional thugs of the fate of the jedi series.

There wasn't even a need to reference Mortis in either. Denning put Mortis in both to make them seem more "epic".

I don't think he would have mentioned them had Clone Wars been canceled at the time.  Supposedly the next series of novels is in development limbo because of Disney.  The Trilogy by Christie Golden called Sword of the Jedi got nothing but some teaser art and now might be cancelled.

Its all rumor and speculation at this point.

The more I think about it, the more I realize I don't want there to be any red lightsabers in Episode VII.

Why? (unless you're just talking about villains, in which case I agree because I don't think the pre-Palpatine Sith (if there were any) had red lightsabers)

I'll raise you...

I don't want to see more than two lightsabers in any single frame. I'll walk the fuck out if I do.

The PT ruined lightsabers for me.

A picture is worth a thousand words. Post 102 is worth more.

Yes.

And as for why: yeah, I see red lightsabers as a Sith thing, specifically a Palpatine clan thing (if only because that's what we see in the films). I fancy the villain being a bad Jedi (is dark jedi the correct term?), or not a force/lightsaber wielder at all.

I'm done with Force users in general. We need more non-Jedi content. It's a big galaxy out there.

Ever notice that the color red appears on many Naboo things and Naboo is Palpatine's homeplanet? I think that Palpatine gave himself and his apprentices red lightsabers because red means something on his homeplanet.

The lighsabers themselves weren't the problem. The problem was that it was just about whipping the lightsabers out and going to town in the most flashy way possible in the PT, and the only reason for that was that the "story" demanded an action beat every so often. Lightsabers aren't ruined for me. Bad filmmaking is.

I do agree that limiting the use of lightsabers would be a good idea, but that should come naturally with a well-written script.

I want lightsabers to return, but it'd be interesting if Luke downplayed them.

And Jedi need to be at a bare minimum. Luke realizes that hundreds of trained Force-sensitives in the galaxy, light or dark, could easily do more harm than good. Maybe his order consists of a dozen Jedi.

They dress normally, keep their lightsabers concealed, and stay well away from political roles.

Totally agree.  Time to move away from Jedi\Sith\Jedi\Sith\Jedi\Sith\Jedi\Sith\Jedi\Sith\

I can't stand the Old Republic. I think it's one of the worst parts of the EU. It copies the movies to the point of being inconsistent with them.

I think the chances of there being no Lightsabers in the new episodes (Right or wrong) are approximately 3720 to 1.

It would be like making a Bond film with no awesome gadgets!!!

...oh wait they just did that :-(
