I remember someone making a version where the AOTC hologram is the prototype model. Not sure who did that though.
I have been working on something, and it’s nearly ready to be released.
I decided to reissue Cloak of Deception, The Approaching Storm, and Labyrinth of Evil with remastered ‘deleted scenes’ using the footage provided by bryantmh as described in the thread linked to below.
While the result remains imperfect, it’s a large step up and the scenes feel like they posture themselves to blend in better with the main movie. I’d like to think I can set these prequel edits down without leaving anything on the table. I don’t think there’s much else anyone could do to make them more presentable in a theater (given that those deleted scenes are gonna be there).
I do not plan to make any real changes beside this. For COD, I added about half a second of pause after the new 3PO line immediately prior to the podrace sequence which was too quick in V6. For TAS I tweaked the sunset kiss effect and swapped the establishing shots before and after the ‘Padme addresses the Senate’ scene. For LOE I plan to reinstate the line “FOR DEMOCRACY” (because recent U.S. political shenanigans have given me an appreciation for it).
I would once again like to thank MMP, poppasketti, Catsailor73, ChainsawAsh, EddieDean, Josanael, RogueLeader, and Neerb for their help with the new(er) computer. Without it, this would not have been possible even if my older one hadn’t bitten it.

Actually, I was rereading through some of NFBisms’ ROTS project and reminded of a few things. I am just entertaining the idea and feasibility of moving Anakin’s conversation with Padme (“Have faith, my love”) to before Anakin enters the Jedi Temple to slaughter the Jedi. To me this is an absolute improvement from a script perspective. One thing that would need to be solved to make it possible is what to put in that scene’s original placement.
I’d be happy to hash this out with you all and see if its something that would be desirable and doable.
I know I’ve made some very poor decisions recently.
Oh, and I guess if anyone with the ability desires to make the Death Star under construction at the end have its dish located along the center axis to match the plans as seen in RO and ANH, I’d welcome it.
Just sayin’!

But that Death Star hologram is inconsistent with the actual design. The AOTC one is more accurate.

Well, not if we make it look like the original prototype looked like that and remove that hologram from Ep2.

I never interpreted that scene as happening the same time as the others. I would just leave it as is. The purpose of the end of ROTS is to show what happened to each Skywalker character before Episode IV and to set up their journey in the OT. I always assumed it was just a flash-forward showing us all what we know is coming.

It wouldn’t be LOE, but you could make a good ROTS edit with this scene arrangement:
I wonder what you all’d think of this. It’d be… quite different from LOE as we know it, so I don’t want to sort of do a bait and switch.
It borrows some of the nice things about L8wrtr’s edit, and lets us hang onto the Yoda counseling scene. The fundamental difference from LOE would just be that the nightmare would now precede most of the political setup. This uncouples it from the tighter implication in LOE that Palpatine is causing Anakin’s nightmares (rather than a genuine vision that would narratively need to occur to feel satisfying).
Perhaps the “alternate version” could feature Padme’s death and be structured as above. It wouldn’t be LOE per se, but it might be the best way to present a version with that ending intact.
I know I’ve made some very poor decisions recently.
I can understand why it was omitted for scene transitioning reasons (with the arrangement you had there didn’t really seem like any good place to put it), but I always felt it was a shame that Anakin’s counseling with Yoda wasn’t in LOE. I think it’s a very well-written scene and it further shows why Anakin went to the Sith: the Jedi didn’t tell him what he wanted to hear.
It’s your edit of course, you can do what you want, but since you brought it up I guess I thought my thoughts might be appropriate.

Yes, that scene fell victim to the idea of moving Anakin’s nightmare forward in the movie.
I mean… if Yoda had a hologram effect added it could be included. Lol

Well, one important function of the scene is that Padme sees and knows Anakin is alive after the Temple burning. Otherwise she seems distraught and then mellow about it with no transition. Hmm.

It should take place after. As Anakin is “justifying” his actions as he believes Padme is on his side in his thinking. Hence the whole “YOU TURNED HER AGAINST ME!!!” line on Mustafar. He believes his actions are supported by Padme.

Yeah. Damn, that’s too bad. Glad to think it through, though.

Agree about Anakin’s “justification.” It is a tough call though.
You know, I didn’t read your earlier motivation about this edit with the implication that it is Palp’s that was causing the visions for Anakin. I don’t think I caught that nor felt any tugs towards that. I’d need to watch the edit again to see if I catch on … but it could be skewed now that I’ve been “told” the implication. Things to ponder.
It is a shame to lose the Yoda counsel with Anikan since it does “push” Anikan more towards the Dark side. He didn’t get the answer he wanted, but the other side does. Anyway, tough call.
“Because you are a PalpaWalker?”
Also that Yoda counseling scene sort of tacitly validates the idea that these are genuine Force visions that ought to come true rather than lies.
It’s sort of tragic, like why didn’t Anakin just say something to someone?

Hey Hal, hope you’re doing well.
I decided to give removing the Wookiee noises from that problematic scene a go:
As you can see, I had an issue with when the clone spoke, since Chewie was groaning over his entire line. I solved this by giving him a new line from the 2004 Battlefront. (Voiced by Temuera Morrison of course!)
PM me if you would like the audio file.
Edit:
Still not 100% happy with it, will tweak further! 😉
Sounds good through my phone anyway. Thanks for taking a try at it. Could you send me the full audio and I’ll see how it does plugged in.
Are there other clone line options? What’s there is fine probably.

Really looking forward to the new version of this, of course for the deleted scenes but that democracy line is gold too. modern context aside it shows the conflict of ideals more. Maybe too heavy-handed for some but it is a over-dramatic SW scene.

Hey Chase the video link is broken, I’m curious what your fix was since that spot needed some cleaning due to the Chewy removal but yet we hear him! haha!

I took down the video since I’ve drastically improved the mix since I posted it. Essentially I completely scrubbed out the Wookiee noises from the scene.
I’m still waiting on Hal to find out if this mix is worthy of the final edit. I’m happy to post the new version if people really want to hear it though.
Yep, you and danieldubb both sent me clips to check out tonight, so I’ll see if either work super well or if need changes. (About the only possible time for me to do this stuff is 9-10pm after everyone else went sleepybye.)
I appreciate ya both; it’s a thing from V6 that was a little unfortunate. The other was R2’s reflection on the hospital window, though poppasketti feels it’d be an inordinately large undertaking to attempt to remove it so it’ll remain.

Only thing I miss is the High Ground line, I think it shows their relationship as master and apprentice well, as he most likely taught this to him. Also the memes.

if i knew i had competition I def would have given another pass on it 😛. hope 1 of them works!

I literally had the same issue, i wasnt as smart to look for another clone line from another source… I just did eq bell curves to try and take chewie’s freq range out of the clip…
Hey, Hal!
This probably has been considered by someone else before, but how would you feel about not showing Padmé giving Luke and Leia their names?
We would still see her giving birth to the twins, but wouldn’t who they are or what do they matter at that point. It might be more interesting for a newcomer introduced only by the edits (crazy, I know), to kick off A New Hope not knowing who Luke and Leia are right out of the gate, making that connection much later as it was originally done by the end of the OT.
[JEDIT] Also, even though your cutlist mentions Padmé prognosis is that “she’ll survive without ever fully recovering”, the medical droid (yourself?) says that it “cannot say how long she might last”. Do I have the right version of the edit or that’s really it and maybe it gives the wrong idea?
