Sorry, but this doesn’t really work for me. For one, Chewbacca’s bandolier has two shoulder straps in Solo, so I don’t think the double bandoliers really make it looks like a different Wookiee. And with no bandoliers at all he looks strangely…naked?

Chewbacca never interacts with Yoda in the OT anyway, so I never felt showing them together, despite it being a bit convenient, really took anything away from the original movies. This was Peter Mayhew’s last full performance as Chewbacca (In Force Awakens he only plays the character in some shots) so I’d be inclined to just leave it be.

My main problem with it is that Han truly doesn’t believe in the Force in ANH while Chewbacca had fought alongside the greatest Jedi of all time.

For my part I’m willing to do anything to disguise his identity in 3. He’s out of place. No disrespect intended to Mayhew, of course. I’d have been more than okay with him playing some other Wookiee. But Chewie is the ultimate galaxy-shrinking pointless cameo in the prequels.

I whole heartedly agree with both Hals and Snooker’s reasoning for the removal. Of all the cameos weve seen in both the prequels and new ones, this one really shrinks a supposedly large and diverse galexy(ies).

If it can be done convincingly, I’m okay with it. But with all respect to Poppasketti, I just don’t find that clip convincing, and I’m not sure anything short of painting him out completely would work for me. I already know its Chewbacca, so any edits will always just look like a bad disguise.

To be fair, poppasketti states that it was a temporary clip to test out how they might look in motion, and wouldn’t reflect a final result.

Personally I’d be all right with a second bandolier (which is still different from how it looks in Solo) and greyed (or otherwise recolored) fur. Maybe he’s… Crunchbrakka or something. Goes by Crunchy.

JEDIT: Of course, his military rank would be Captain.

Thanks for the input! It’s all really helpful in figuring out what needs to be done.

Yes, this is just a really rough first pass! I was posing the question because I’m wondering if, assuming the fur change and bandolier change looked convincing, would it really change him enough to be someone else?

Before going any further in trying to execute a change to 5 or so shots (which I admit is a huge challenge that I might not ever be able to get to look truly natural), do these changes even do the trick?

I like the idea of adding a stripe to his fur, but again not sure that will be convincing either with the way he moves his body. His fur doesn’t provide a great plane to do any mocha tracking.

The track and backplate need some refinement, but this may be the way to go. I think this is the trickiest of the 5 shots since it’s such a long move, but I’ll have to look at the others again and assess.

My only concern is that when Yoda is attacked there are two Wookiee’s roaring, so perhaps he can be augmented/disguised just for those couple shots.

Based on my recollection, I don’t think so. There’s really only two shots there with Chewie, and neither get up close with him.

I don’t think any FX work would even need to be done for the short few shots as Yoda is attacked by clones. We can see that there are two wookiees talking, but there’s extremely little there to indicate one of them is Chewbacca.
I do want to point out that I am still hoping to come across a suitable line for 3PO to replace “I’m beginning to get the hang of this flying business.” I thought his line about “poor little R2” getting into trouble from the AOTC droid factory would work, but there’s machinery audible throughout.

I’ve updated the shot to improve some of the tracking and masking (It’s the same link, but I’ll repost below), and I’ve also done the next Chewbacca shot!

So right now we have:

Here’s the fourth shot. The full list is updated below. If anyone notices any issues, please let me know!

As for the shots where Yoda gets attacked, I tried a simple fur color tweak and slight face augmentation so that it’s just another wookie. If this doesn’t work, though, we can look into another removal.
