For anyone else that might be wondering, the funky extension on the directory that's created by the torrent is normal. I couldn't get Windows to let me rename it before creating the torrent, so it went up as is.

How should it be renamed, or opened?

It doesn't need to be. The VIDEO_TS folder just needs to be at the root of the DVD when you go to burn. VIDEO_TS, AUDIO_TS, and all the other folders get burned to the root. Everything above that is just how it's structured on my hard drive, so that's how the torrent got created. So when you burn, the structure should look like this:

AUDIO_TS
JACKET_P
VIDEO_TS
ZZMOREEXTRAS

For those of you that use imgtool and imgburn, you only need to include the above folders when you create the iso. Otherwise, it won't play in your standalone.

Does the final version contain the dropped frames mentioned at the beginning of the thread? And if so, for anyone who's seen it, is this noticeable?

By chance does anyone know why there is about a GB worth of Donny & Marie and Daily Show files included in the torrent? Are they necessary, or can I skip them?

It was part of the usenet post. It looks like it's from when they had a Star Wars themed episode.

I'm surprised how fast this torrent's going, I been on it for only 23 hours and have 80% already...

took me a week to get Dr. Gonzo's version and that was single layer

Judging from the fact that they're not in the VIDEO_TS folder, I'm assuming they're not necessary to the functionality of the disc proper. I appreciate the thought on the part of whoever included them, but if I can't watch them from the DVD menu I believe I'll save myself some download time and skip those.

Not only that, but it doesn't look like they're ready for viewing yet either. The files (m2v and ac3) need to be muxed in order to get the audio. Unless I'm doing something wrong (that is a possibility). VLC played the m2v file, but there's no audio. Maybe another media player can play them both without needing to mux them.

So I guess I have to actually make the dual layer version a little more full of value.

I've included two special extras on the second version.

The first is an AVI file of The Daily Show and The Colbert Report from October 11th -- George Lucas was the guest star on The Colbert Report, as Stephen presented the finale to his epic "Green Screen Challenge" competition. My friend Bonnie Rose won the contest. Star Wars references abound including an appearance by Jar Jar Binks.

The second is a batch of DVD-quality M2V/AC3/AIFF files which present a better quality copy of the Star Wars skit from the Donny and Marie show, back in 1977. If you have my Return of the Ewok DVD you've seen this -- at only 12 minutes it's much shorter than the Star Wars Holiday Special, but somehow manages to be much worse ... It's the worst Star Wars related thing I've ever seen, and you have to love it for that, particularly if you enjoy horribleness like the Holiday Special. Donny and Marie Osmond play Luke and Leia - definitely the first time Luke and Leia were ever shown as brother and sister in an incestuous relationship. 6 years ahead of your time, guys. Redd Foxx is Obi-Wan, Kris Kristofferson is Han, Paul Lynde is Tarkin, Thurl Ravenscroft (Tony the Tiger) is Darth Vader, the Ice Angels are the stormtroopers on skates, Anthony Daniels is C-3PO, and we've got R2-D2 and Chewbacca. The whole thing is horrifying.

And this copy is better quality than was on Return of the Ewok. I have the entire show but due to disc space issues I'm only including the Star Wars related material - although more than was on Return of the Ewok.

Some people may not be able to play these files - the video is in M2V format and the sound is in both AIFF and AC3 formats. Newer versions of Quicktime will understand it though, and so will VLC. I present it in this format so that it will be incredibly easy to burn to your fan DVDs - M2V/AC3 is of course the traditional DVD video format.

So, that's how to tell whether you've got the SLIGHTLY altered Dual Layer version. A couple of weird extras.

Enjoy.

I'm working on encoding the stuff to make it not so huge and I think I got a good encode of the movie proper + commentary. This isn't for everyone, just those who want to see this without downloading 7.8 GB. (Also note I'm not including any extras beside the commentary.) The video is OGM, 1.1 GB, and contains the main audio track and the commentary track, both in 128 kbps mp3. The video codec is FFMPEG libavcodec, XviD-compatible, 836x352 @ 973 kbps. I am considering torrenting this encode, probably on Sunday or so when my bandwidth's not tied up from NUMB3RS or Pokemon.

I did pretty much the same thing a couple years ago for Dr. Gonzo's DVDs.

Thanks for doing this, it's a good idea. Do you expect much degradation in image quality? I only ask because, to be honest, it looks pretty bad already. I was kind of surprised, given that it's a dual-layer disc.

That's not to say it isn't an excellent edit... it most definitely is. Thumbs up to ocpmovie for his hard work.

There's always some. It's significantly bigger than my encode of GOUT, so it's probably a bit better quality.

I've been a bit busy to torrent it, I might do it tonight if I don't have to cap anything.

The OGM is up on my tracker, and I submitted the torrent to Mininova and Torrentspy. (As per current rules I'm not allowed to provide the link TO my tracker, but you can salvage that from the torrent metadata. That's partly why I put it on the search engines.)

It's 1.1 GB. The codecs are the usual xvid/mp3 so as long as you can play ogm you should be set.

I could not get VLC to play the files properly either. But media player classic played them fine. I've since made an avi file of one of the Donny and Marie clips using virtual dub. What I'm gonna do with it now that my eyes and ears have now healed from the bleeding these clips have inflicted, I don't know. Maybe I'll put them on youtube.

I'm gonna try and do a DVD5 of this later this week. I will be using DVD Rebuilder and CCE at 9 passes for the best results. I'm not particularly attached to these extras and I think they can easily go on a separate disc to make more room for the DVD single layer. And as far as the quality is concerned, I think it's a significant improvement over version 1.0 but I'm not sure the dual Layer format makes it that much better. I'll see after my conversion. My Momitsu did choke a little at the layer break(as Han and Luke open the elevator doors disguised as Stormtroopers, just before "Where are you taking this...thing?") so I'll have to check it on another player.
There's good in the Original Trilogy, and it's worth fighting for.

Is somebody going to put the corrected version (with Greedo subs) up on Demonoid or RapidShare or something?

Time is running out for the Rebels. Antilles upcourt to Skywalker. He’s being paced by Darth Va— the bone-jarring pick by Solo! He came out of nowhere! Skywalker’s open from way outside, he launches at the buzzer... Good! It’s good! The Rebels win on a sensational buzzer beater by Luke Skywalker! Let’s take another look at that last shot. He just does get it off in time. Wow, what a shot. That’s why they call him Luke Legend.

That may be the most exciting battle I have ever been privileged to broadcast. Certainly the most dramatic finish. We’ll get you an update on the Artoo Detoo injury situation in just a moment. Right now let’s go courtside where SuperShadow is waiting with Chewbacca.

Where? The one I downloaded from Demonoid does not have the Greedo subtitles.

Yeah, that's the one I got. The one added February 15 by derckast. How bizarre.

I triple-checked. I'm still seeding it, and getting a lot of download activity. The numbers of seeds and leechers reported by Azureus (my BitTorrent client) match the numbers reported by Demonoid. When I download the torrent file from Demonoid and attempt to download it, Azureus tells me it's the one I'm already seeding.

Yet it only has one subtitle track, and it appears to go with the commentary. The only subtitle in the Greedo scene says "George Lucas." When that track is off, I get no subtitles at all.

I did burn it onto a notoriously unreliable Memorex DL disc. (I ordered some Verbatim discs from Newegg. These are the ones that everybody recommends. I'm waiting for them to arrive in the mail.) I get some bad glitches. Is it possible for this to cause Greedo's subtitles to disappear?

Is lordjedi's Demonoid name derckast?

Yep, that'd be me. I haven't tried v2.0 yet, but I'll take a look at it real quick.

EDIT: Greedo subtitles show up here just fine. Using Windows Media Player 11.

So the one added on 2/15 has the Greedo subtitles then?

OK, weird. I opened the VIDEO_TS folder from my hard drive in VLC, and the subtitles show up. When the disc I burned is played in my DVD player, the subtitles do not show up. Is the problem the disc (in which case, burning it on a Verbatim might solve the problem), or my DVD player?

There are two subtitle tracks on the disc (just checked it with VLC). The Greedo subtitles are on track 2. Try forcing your DVD player to play the second subtitle track to see if they show up.
