Star Wars: A New Hope [SET ruLes 1.0] - AVCHD & BD RELEASED! — Page 4

I tried watching after I burned it, but I've got what I believe is a first generation BD player, and apparently it doesn't play AVCHDs.  So I can't give an assessment yet.  Sorry I haven't gotten back to you.  I'm sure it's discouraging to not get feedback, but at the present I can't.  I will when I can, as I've been on the lookout for a new player anyway.

You could always watch the movie using your PC; check the file 00001.m2ts inside the AVCHD folder, and play it with any compatible video player (media player classic, VLC, KMplayer are the ones I use and they all work with this file).

I'm sure it's discouraging to not get feedback...

Yes, it is indeed, but then it's rewarding when feedbacks are coming... (^^,)

Andrea.

I've sampled both the AVCHD and the Blu and they both look great! Do they both have the same image encode?

You and I have discussed the use of noise-reduction briefly, and I think you've struck a good balance here. I was a little sceptical of the whole upconvert to 720p idea, but consider me wowed! I think it makes for a very pleasing picture to watch, and even though it makes the image look a little soft I am sure there is no detail lost as it probably wasn't in the laserdiscs in the first place. Excellent work.

(I must admit I missed the intense colours and the warmer hues of the original laserdiscs, but recognize that your version is more accurate to the GOUT.)

I really liked the inclusion of the theater DTS track. You will include that on the sequels too?

Go on man, get cracking on ESB and ROTJ and JP!!!

Although this is an SE project, it's not necessarily about language versions.  For that CatBus has started 'Project Threepio" which has collected multiple languages and created a subtitle pack which people can use to put into other fan created projects.  Swedish is one of them.  Here's that thread:

Ask there about SE files, my recollection is that most of the work up to this point has been towards pre-SE SWs.

What you have done with the OUT and SET is a very good work and it had to be done and it would be great that you do this for 2 others movies. Honestly, for me, the SET has not very interrest because I don't like the "special edition".

The OUT looks very good but I must admit that I will now prefer to see Harmy's version with the french crawl/credits that I have done for "La guerre des étoiles".

Anyway a such good preservation has to be done and you have done a great job.

So I burned and deleted my copy of this, and now I can't find the DVD I burned.  Would someone be willing to seed this place over at MyPancreas so I can give it another go?  Thanks :)

MyPancreas... GREAT!

Sorry, I deleted the AVCHD after I released the BD version; try to ask on MyPancreas (I can't resist...) for a reseed.

Hey!  Guess what!  I found it!  And it works in my new BD player.  Don't know why it wouldn't work in the old one.  Anyway, I quickly looked at parts of it and was pleased with what I saw.  Thanks for your good work on this.  Sorry it took so long to give a reply.  Hopefully I can give you a better one in the near future.  I also hope you plan on completing the OT, though I know you're a busy guy with a ton of projects going on.  Keep up the good work! :)

Thanks a lot, darth_ender; I'm happy someone has appreciated my work, and write about it - even if with some delay, don't worry, I'm still happy! (^^,)

And I would add a thing: I deleted the original captures of my old projects to make room for the new ones... but from SET [ruLes] (that was only my second project) I learnt a lot, and I'm thinking to re-do it from scratch (along with the EP5 and EP6) applying new techniques... what do you think?

Perhaps you should do comparison screenshot in order to see if the difference is remarkable ?

If you've got new techniques up your sleeve, go ahead and use them.  I will say that I personally am very happy with the existing ANH you've made.  But then again, I don't pick up on the problems most people do.  So it's really up to you.  If you feel unsatisfied, give it another go.  If you feel it's good enough, then put it on hold.  I might add that if you do decide to redo ANH, I hope you would do so after you've completed ESB and ROTJ.  But those are simply my personal feelings.  Again, good job on what you've already done!

Learning new techniques have taken me to new goals... is not that I don't think SW:ANH [ruLes] is not good, at the contrary, is very good, considering the fact that video is from laserdisc... but now I know that I could improve it a bit - let's say that, as it is, I think it's about at 90%... I'm after other projects right now, but I'll complete EP5 and EP6 using new techniques, and then redo EP4.

Good luck with your many projects, and I look forward to the rest of the trilogy when you've got the time :)

Awesome work! Where to get it? I have free Usenet, I would like to have your project... It looks promising, even from the opening and crawl! Usenet is too slow... I might as well go and get a myspleen invite...

I might soon do a '97 project using the 2004 HDTV and this project as a source. How will I be able to edit in the 1997 scenes into the 2004 version, without losing frames?

At the moment, no one is seeding it, and, as I'm releasing another project, I could not seed it myself... if you need a myspleen invite, though, let me know!

Or... wait until I'll release a new, improved version, but you have to be very patient...

Got an invite already! No need to, now!

I have noticed a slight error in your SET ruLes release, Andrea. It seems that the pitch was uncorrected in the 1997 stereo mix that's in that project, but I'll go and fix it... stupid people leaving artifacts on their work...

When I fix it the pitch is too low. Sorry, but maybe a fixed version of the stereo mix will come in SET ruLes 2.
