GOOD NEWS!!!!

TESB DTS ISO's are now uploaded. They'll be making their way to the newsgroups soon. I've sent out links to some of you who I know have been waiting for them....check your pm box.

:)

Thanks for the patience.

there's one showing up on usenet that says "movie-only". is this not the ISO like SW?

btw, extraction with winamp 2.92 under wine in Snow Leopard is working

That may be msycamore's reference video you're seeing...anything audio only should say just that....

CDs from 1997 wouldn't have been mastered by imgBurn-2.5.0.0.
Almost certainly would've contained ISO-9660 filesystem, not UDF.

Somebody doesn't understand disc image concept ?

However, in practice you must take into account the “fuckwit factor”. Just talk to Darth Mallwalker…

I think that it is the DTS CD-ROMs (its only 800ish MB). I downloaded the disc images this morning (400MB each) from a link Jetrell Fo sent me, I think the discs may have been re-authored for size as they are missing the audio for the pre-movie trailers which are on the other discs for the other films. I think thats what it means by 'movie-only'.

With my internet connection being limited I had hoped that by providing at least the audio, it would help people get started. none and I are working on straight ISO's of the discs themselves for the source information they can provide. I have been and still am willing to provide what assistance I can with what I have at my disposal. I ask for nothing in return because I don't expect anything in return. Having every resource available to help projects be fully realized and shared with everyone. THAT is the reward. It is my hope that ALL our members here feel the same. Cheers!!!!

Well said! I'd just like to acknowledge and state my appreciation for all of the effort that has been made in getting these discs shared for everyone. I understand how difficult it has been for you with your internet connection and getting these discs out there for everyone. Its exciting to think what may lay ahead by having the access to these discs!

I'm working on syncing each of the 6 Films right now using the DTS Theatrical CDs, and I just realized that the two of the three 1997 SE trailers are on the discs.  It would be really easy to get the 5.1 mixes for these trailers, which as far as I know are not available anywhere else.  They're in Dolby Digital 2.0 on the Laserdiscs and the Star Wars one is also in Dolby Digital 2.0 on the 2004 DVD Set.

Would there be any interest in this and would anyone know which other films' discs might have the first SW trailer?

Edit:  After a little searching, it looks like "Star Trek: First Contact" might be the film to look for.

I checked my First Contact discs and they do not contain any movie trailer audio, only different versions of the THX spots that play before a movie.  I will keep searching.  Huge thanks for what you're doing.  You have a pm ....  :)

I got a solid lead on the 1 trailer audio file we're missing.  Apparently there was an "A" trailer for the SE but it was well guarded by the Fox reps and returned to them when done due to a release date being changed on Jedi.  The "B" trailer audio is what I believe we are after ..... and I just may be able to get it.

Cheers

UPDATE:  I will have the missing trailer audio later today.

Finished these back in the middle of June and forgot about them.  I just posted over at myspleen.

Here are the details:

I present here a collection of the four Star Wars Special Edition Trailers.

The video for Trailers B, C, and D was ripped from the '97 Laserdisc editions, while the four audio tracks come from various sources.  The most important track is the original Theatrical 5.1 Mix decoded from theatrical DTS discs provided by Jetrell Fo on OT.com.  The other mixes are discussed below.  Again, much thanks goes to Jetrell Fo.  I hope everyone enjoys these, as I think they are the best Star Wars Trailers that exist.

Technical Details:

VIDEO

=============================================================

1. Captured the 97 SE trailers from three different LD copies, using a Hauppauge WinTV HVR 2250, in VirtualDub.

2. IVTC and combined the captures in Avisynth using a modified version of the Median script posted to originaltrilogy.com by user mysycamore.

3. Resized to 720p resolution using Spline64Resize filter.

4. Encoded to h264 using Adobe Media Encoder CS6 (Blu Ray Spec)

AUDIO Track 1 - Theatrical DTS Surround

=============================================================

(Decode to WAV)

1. Convert to 5 mono wavs (L, R, C, Ls, Rs) with apt-x100 DTS Decoder in winamp. (Produces 5 wavs @ 44.1kHz/16bit)

2. Save to 5 mono 24 bit wavs with no dither (padded wit zeros) using Weiss Saracon.

(Convert to 23.976 fps)

3. Interpret Sampling Rate as 44,056Hz using Adobe Audition CS6.

4. Upsample all tracks to 48kHz using Izotope RX 2 Advanced (64Bit).

(LFE Channel)

5. Create Stereo wav with Ls and Rs Channels using Wavewizard.

6. Apply Flat Lowpass Filter (Analog Mode) @ 80Hz with Q=24, sum to mono using Izotope Ozone 5 Mastering mode.

7. Save as 24 bit mono wav with 48kHz sampling rate.

(Surround Channels)

8. Attenuate by -3dB, then apply Flat Highpass Filter (Analog Mode) @ 80Hz with Q=24 using Izotope Ozone 5 EQ mode.

9. Save as 24 bit stereo wav with 48kHz sampling rate.

10. Split to 2 mono wavs with Wavewizard.

(Combine Tracks)

9. Syncronize Tracks in Adobe Audition CS6.

10. Save as 24 bit, 48kHz, 5.1 channel wav.

11. Encode to DTS-HD MA using DTS HD Encoder Suite

AUDIO Track 2 - Theatrical DTS Downmixed to Dolby Stereo

=============================================================

(Decode to WAV)

1. Convert to stereo wav with apt-x100 DTS Decoder in winamp. Use Dolby Surround/ProLogic settings.

2. Convert to 24bit wav with no dither (padded wit zeros) using Weiss Saracon.

(Convert to 23.976 fps)

3. Interpret Sampling Rate as 44,056Hz using Adobe Audition CS6.

4. Resample to 44.1kHz using Izotope RX 2 Advanced (64Bit).

5. Dither to 16 bit using TPDF mode in Weiss Saracon.

AUDIO Track 3 - Laserdisc Stereo PCM

=============================================================

1. 16bit, 44.1kHz, Stereo LPCM Captured 3 times to ensure bit accuracy.

AUDIO Track 4 - Laserdisc Dolby Stereo AC3

=============================================================

1. Dolby AC3 track captured as 16bit 48kHz Dolby Digital Wav.

2. DDWAV decoded using BeSplit.

3. Synced using delay settings when muxing.

TRAILER A

=============================================================

Trailer A was included on the Official 2004 DVD Bonus DVD, and has been included here for completeness.  The video has been upscaled to 720p using Spline64Resize and re-encoded to h264 using Adobe Media Encoder CS6.  The audio is the stereo ac3 present on the original DVD.

BONUS

=============================================================

I've included the Behind the Scenes Featurette from the 1997 SE Laserdiscs here as a bonus.  The video was processed in the same way as the trailers with the exception of the IVTC step.  Since the video is a mixture of film and video sources, IVTC will work fine with the film content, but will eliminate fields from the video portions.  I tried various IVTC methods, but found that the interlaced video actually looked the best on my TV.  You may have different results, but this was my justification.  The video is presented here at the original 480i resolution.  I've included both the Laserdisc PCM and Dolby Stereo AC3 tracks.

I might have posted that Median script somewhere around here but it is entirely the work by g-force, not me.

Nice work as always, schorman!

We want you to be aware that we have no plans—now or in the future—to restore the earlier versions.

You're right.  It's been a few months since I did this and I couldn't find g-force's original post.  Anyway, thanks to G-Force as well.  That script really made a big difference.

I just got done watching these ..... so frickin cool, I loved them.  I'd like to think they find a place in an SE project somewhere down the road.  Nicely executed schorman ......  :)  :)

Am I the only one who read "aptx" as "Apoptoxin" ?  I've been watching way too much Detective Conan.

Not sure on the legal status of the APT-X100 plugin, but as the filename is titled "crackbyeclipse" I played it safe and deleted the link.

The plug-in spoke of no longer works as the audio is now encrypted.  It may work for older stuff, pre-2001, but anything new is unaffected by it.

Id like to ask if there have been other DTS cinema tracks transfered from their CD-ROM sources to a usable format we can use for ourselves at home, other than the matrix and that of jurassic park which we can get from myspleen.

are there any more of this kind? what about this Star wars track, was it possible to create that one as well? if so where could I find it?

I've recently been investigating the differences between home audio playback and the way a DTS CD-ROM is decoded on the equipment of a movie theater; specifically, to find the best possible method of deriving the LFE signal that is embedded in the surround channels.

I think I'm very close to getting it right, since I've been able to get the DTS version of The Empire Strikes Back to sound extremely similar to the Dolby Digital version from the 1997 laserdisc.  At this point it's mostly a matter of how to apply what I've done (using Pro Tools and iZotope Ozone 5) to settings that will work in other software.

I am obviously very late to this thread but was curious if you were able to get your hands on the 1997 SE DTS CD-ROMS? I have all 6 discs (for all three SE movies) and am trying to find a way to decode the files.

I've got all 6 CD-ROM files from the usual newsy place but has anybody decoded and synced them to anything?

If you read through this thread it has been stated that others have synched audio already.  In fact, TPM just got a synch recently as well.

 I saw NSP's TPM job and listened to it on Adywan and I gotta say it's very good! I hope we can see the other five soon and have them uploaded to the organ. Also, is his ANH sync to the BD also synced to the DVD? I seem to have read in the 1997 standards thread (I'm busy updating myself on the progress of that thread and the the various subthreads) that the DVD is the frame standard for ANH97SE.

JEDIT: I'm a dang idiot. I have the ANH DTS already in the Team Blu ANH 97 BD25.
