YES. my biggest complaint (besides the wooden acting/dialogue) about the SW prequel trilogy is prolly its lack of a Han Solo type. pretty much every other type is hauled out from the original trilogy, but there's no Solo (WTF?). they hired Samuel L. Jackson, who is a master of dealing out trash-talk and one-liners on screen, and didn't think "hmm maybe he oughta play a bad-muthafucka space pirate"? so, nah, they merely replaced Solo's cool attitude and humor with Jar-Jar's obnoxious pratfalls & pidgin-Basic in Episode I, and then II & III are just about completely humorless. i think Jack O'Neill of Stargate SG-1 was the Han Solo of the 1990s, and Firefly's Mal Reynolds is the Solo of the 2000s.

I don't mind the cover except that Mal gets so little space...

I like the cover. It stands out, unlike many covers this year *coughBatmanBeginscough*

I've said it before and I'll say it again...the dvd cover is lightyears ahead of that crap poster Europe got. You know...the one with River holding a freaking axe...
Which is the more foolish, the fool (the OT) or the fool who follows (the PT)?

"Stay back, or Mr...Fett gets it!"

Yes, but that was just the silliest poster I've ever seen! It looked straight from some crappy 70's or 80's scifi movie. It looked terrrrrrible.

That's an odd focus on River, and where's the rest of the ensemble cast?

I think a certain Photoshop artist might have a crush...

MeBeJedi: Sadly, I believe the prequels are beyond repair.
JediRandy: They’re certainly beyond any repair you’re capable of making.

MeBeJedi: You aren’t one of us.
Go-Mer-Tonic: I can’t say I find that very disappointing.

JediRandy: I won’t suck as much as a fan edit.

either that or the marketing department follows the "sex it up" rule. i sure don't remember her chest being such a focal point in the movie. but lookit the poster: boobs! boobs sell.

River's Storyline is a huge part of the film, but the marketing department doesn't tell the whole story.

She's skitzophrenic, and prone to random violent outbursts, and by no means the 'female lead'... Plus, the character is 17 years old.

Haven't seen the film yet, but just picked up the Firefly DVDs (for $30 Cdn) and am enjoying the series so far. The dialogue and interplay b/w the characters is classic Joss. Can't wait to see Serenity; I'll probably catch it at the discount theatre.

Princess Leia: I happen to like nice men.
Han Solo: I'm a nice man.

Where did you grab Firefly for $30C? It was on sale at Future Shop back when the film came out, but FS didn't think to have any in stock in their warehouse.

HMV for $29.99, baby. Snapped it up on Friday.

Sorry. I just had to bump this thread. I got Firefly and Serenity for Christmas, and I burned through those things, and then I watched Firefly again with my girlfriend who became as obsessed as me. And we finally watched Serenity last night. At one point (I'm sure you know what point I'm talking about), I was so angry and sad that I thought about turning the movie off and locking away both Firefly and Serenity never to be seen again. But now that my fanboy anger has died down, I'm aware of what a wonderful movie it was. But the movie makes me so sad that the series was cancelled. They could have had so many more adventures. But after the movie, it will never be the same.

Damn you, FOX! So who else has gotten the DVD?

Great TV series.

Good movie if you walk in blind. Great movie if you've seen the series first.

The DVD is selling like mad. I expect further Firefly material, whether it's theatrical, straight-to-video, or a second season on Showtime.

Universal has Serenity on their launch list for HD-DVD in March. I wish they'd go BluRay already. They're the only studio that hasn't. Dumbasses.

I'm now not sure if I want to see anymore Firefly material because I just don't see how it will be as good without... well, you know. And since the long arm of the alliance seems to have suddenly been dealt a strong blow, it just doesn't seem like it'll be the same 'verse anymore. And obviously, hiding the Tams is no longer the issue it was anymore. Serenity is awesome, but I would have appreciated it much more if it had happened after Firefly had gone on for several seasons. The nine of them made such an awesome family together. The relationships between them were wonderful. But now all I can think about how they were only together for several months, a very, very brief time to be a family. And so much more could have been done.

Serenity, in my opinion, was a wonderful conclusion, but it just came too soon.

EDIT: By the way, you said the DVDs were selling like hotcakes. How well is it doing? Has Universal finally managed to make its money back? Can we call it a success? Because I'm very sad how relatively poorly it performed in theatres (not that I helped, sadly, as I wanted to see Firefly first, and I'm very glad I did). Part of me does want it to continue in some way. But mostly I just feel that something this good deserves to have one big success, because it's been kicked around and underappreciated its entire existance.
