Say Goodbye to the Simpsons (UPDATE: false alarm) — Page 3

And can you believe it?  Dennis the Menace and Charlie Brown never aged either.  Heck, Dennis is still continuing even though the creator has long gone the way of the earth!

Now if The Simpsons were more like a soap opera, introducing new characters, introducing new plot threads and twists, tying up old ones in haste, and all the characters aging and moving on to more lucrative careers, then I would love the show again.  That sounds like a recipe for hilarity!

I never regularly watched this show.

I don't know about all that, but the Simpsons have had quite a few changes in the status quo over the years.

People died, characters dealt with death, relationships changed, people got divorced. Characters have changed and come back (Homer's brother, sideshow Bob, Marge's prom date)

For the one show on TV that has no need to ever change, I think that's a fair ammount of progress.

FOTY

I only regularly watched TV as a lad when my morning cartoons were on. At that point, my parents deemed me "too young" for The Simpsons, and my bedtime was always before it came on.

When I got old enough to watch it, I had video games and stuff I'd rather do instead and had pretty much stopped watching TV regularly.

That said, I have seen many episodes of the show.

To be fair to you, I glossed over the word "regularly."

Still, if you have seen many episodes from the glory years (S2-S9), you need to watch them ALL.

NOW.

And yet you love Power Rangers....

*Palm o' the Face*

Respectfully, when I presented my argument in favor of Power Rangers over the Star Wars prequels. I offered up episode clips, screencaps, a link to a full episode, written side-by-side comparisons of the dialogue, and I mentioned just how different various Power Rangers seasons are. It was an attempt to demonstrate just how uninformed a casual statement of "what bothers me is the OT duels at least had a sense of realism to them where the PT was nothing more than 2 hr long power ranger episodes" really was.

Your main arguments against Power Rangers either end with you saying "I'm sorry, I just can't see past the costumes, the graphics, etc. etc." Or the above quoted facepalm. It took me several posts to convince you to watch a single 3 minute clip.

Meanwhile, I've watched several seasons worth of "The Simpsons", event episodes, and the movie. I've also watched the majority of Power Rangers. Regardless of my opinion of either show. You can't argue that I'm stating an uninformed opinion. You, on the other hand, are vastly uninformed about Power Rangers. You're essentially like someone whose only Star Wars experience is seeing Han & Leia's "I love you"/"I know" scene, Jar Jar sticking his tongue out at dinner, and George Lucas stating "Jar Jar's the key to all this". Then writing Star Wars off as some weird romantic comedy.

All this considered, given that you could only put down Power Rangers with a facepalm. Until you put in the effort, I did defending Power Rangers, to defend The Simpsons. I declare your facepalm on this matter useless and a fail.

(Besides all this I respect your opinion on The Simpsons. I just don't share it.)

What is this, an case before the Supreme Court?  I don't care if my opinion is uninformed, these are tv shows, not candidates for President.  I've seen enough of the Power Rangers to know it is vastly inferior to The Simpsons, and if 99% of the world is also wrong, I don't want to be right.

"an case" should've been "a case". Anyway I'm not bashing your opinion of The Simpsons. I'm mainly asking you to express why you like it? If you can't do that, then I see no reason to think of The Simpsons as anything more than a repetitive cartoon, that's not worth my time.

If you think The Simpsons is a repetitive cartoon not worth your time, there's no point in my trying to convince you otherwise.  And honestly, it doesn't matter to me if you like it or not.  I don't get paid if you watch it or anything.  I just wanted to point out how wrong you were. :p

Simpsons seasons 3-7/8ish are television perfection. The best comedic writing for a show I've ever experienced.

I've tried to watch a new episode here and there, but I just can't get into it.

Worst. Halloween. Ever.

Okay, I'm beginning to lean the other way now. I could not even watch the first part of that Halloween episode. I remember thinking that Beyond Blunderdome's fart joke in season 11 was the first I had ever seen on The Simpsons and that it was an indication of the show going downhill at that point. Although I did like the rest of that particular episode.

I heard on the radio that one of the segments revolved around Homer farting.

The show was already dead, but apparently they dug it up just to kill it again.

The Dexter/Ned parody seemed promising at least, but I didn't catch the episode.

I saw a clip from the fart episode and I ..... well. Yeah.  Speechless.

There's no point in watching the Halloween episodes anymore. They haven't made a decent one since Season 11.

Really? Nobody cares that nuclear power plants HAVE in fact created 3-eyed fish?

It's only a matter of time before they reanimate old/classic episodes, Lucas-style.

It doesn't have anything to do with the thread. The Simpsons will ALWAYS be relevant, but it's the first half of the show's run that holds the relevancy.
