Yeah I don't think anybody's as far up there as Rick McCallum, but there are others who come close.  *cackles*

As with your book and other website, having everything quoted, footnoted, and documented adds credibility to those that want to follow the paper trail.  For instance this Hamill/Sansweet thing, what's the evidence for this?  The John Knoll quote from the Blockbuster book.

Also a glossary of terms like Lowry, and the various preservation people/projects will help get people up to speed.

Modify the <pre><title>"Template #45 - Aquarium Template"</title></pre> on each page.

In the preservation reviews you get specific on image quality aspects.  If they can be captured in a pic with arrows pointing to the various imperfections, that will help those who are unfamiliar with the terms but might sense it visually.

The second article talks about the fanboys "who don't care", this seems like a pot shot.  Yes they exist, but maybe replace them with something like the 'general populace, who will consume the latest and greatest, just because it's 'new' could suffice.  Use the weight of the financial force of the general populace against the argument that proper preservation needs to start from the source.

Is an article about the expanded preservation type projects, the variations of SW, something you have in mind?  Projects like the preservation of the Audio Description Audio (since it's not an option on any of the Home video version) is an angle which can fortify the cause.  All the old making of specials that babyhum and others have preserved could be mentioned there.

And you mentioned the Latest "EditDroid" release not being by the EditDroid team.  That is correct?

The Sansweet incident was told to me personally by Alexandre Philipe, the director of PVGL. The new Editdroid guy also got in contact with me, perhaps I should post that in its thread. But yeah, I was thinking of footnoting things, my aim was to make it a bit more casual than that but I guess it can never hurt if people are already wondering where certain info comes from. That Mark Hamill incident is just ugh. I hope maybe that's just Sansweet being a socially inappropriate weirdo and not something with any actual authority behind it. (Hey fruitcake, stick to hoarding 1977 Count Chocula boxes and leave Luke Skywalker alone.)

Sansweet is actually a fairly powerful underling at Lucasfilm. He's sort of the fan ambassador. He liasons with the public and cast and crew, he's all over conventions as a Lucasfilm rep and makes public statements on behalf of the company, he's involved in home video releases to some extent it seems, he writes books, I think he has a column or something on the official website, and other stuff. He's basically the ultimate fanboy who happened to get turned in to a real Lucasfilm employee.

It reminds me of this time...I think the show is called G4 or something? Some tech show. They had Bill Hunt from the Digital Bits and some fucking tool from TFN, I think it might be the owner of TFN, and they were there to debate the GOUT release, and he was such a fucking moron it astounded me. Bill would make very reasoned, rational arguments and then this TFN idiot would just grin stupidly and spout marketing cacthphrases that didn't even address the issues Bill raised. And I think finally at one point Bill was like, what are you saying that's not even an argument. He was saying things like "this is the best the films have ever looked" and "this is really about taking a journey back in time and enjoying the originals" or some shit. I couldn't believe it. Then I realized: these guys are really just Lucasfilm implants in the fan community. But they are for real, it's not just because it's their job, they actually have been that brainwashed to think like that. Its bloody weird!

The GOUT aliasing issue actually brings me to a question I've had about NTSC dvds in general:

Are NTSC dvds* 23.976 fps with 29.97 fps flags or are they 29.97? There's several reasons I'm confused on the issue, but the GOUT relates to it because I remember the talk back in '06 about how they IVTC'd the '93 laserdisc master in order to make the dvd progressive. Also, one of the online reviews said something along the lines of "although progressively encoded, the discs suffer from aliasing." So was the IVTC'ing to get it from 60i to 30p or was it to get from 30p to 24p? Someone please clear this whole issue up for me!

*just to avoid confusion, the examples I'm thinking of are new release titles made from 2k/4k masters.
