msycamore thankyou so much for sharing this. Really enjoyed seeing this as I have the vhs version and was going to see if I could do something with it but dont have to now as the picture you've come up with looks really great.

Was watching with my kids and they couldnt believe how much deatail was in the dark areas and shadows, they and myself prefer this to any other realese at the mo.

For years I have been waiting for a HD version to watch on my home cinema(HD projector) and low and behold the old laser disc versions have more deatail! Theres something not right up at Skywalker ranch.

Thanks again and looking forward to more versions.

Thanks, glad you liked it, and it makes me even more happy to hear that your kids enjoyed it. :)

When you do your revised version, will you do any color correction to individual shots? I recently noticed that in the lightsaber training scenes, when the saber appears as cyan or greenish, the whole image takes on a similar yellow-green cast. The more green there is in the saber, the more green there is in everything else in frame.

The shot where it looks the most green is "You don't believe in the Force, do you?" If you compare it to the other shots with the same camera setup, you will see that Luke's skin, his outfit, the walls, etc. also skew more greenish in that one shot than in any other. Would you consider adjusting the colors in each shot, so that the colors (including the light blue saber) are basically consistent from shot to shot like they were in the theatrical prints? (This consistency is also in evidence in The Making of Star Wars - not the optical compositing progression montage, I'm talking about the actual excerpt from the finished film).

(And I was just thinking - that guy in the Netherlands with the X9, do you think he could do a better-looking rip of this disc?)

Yes, definitely, I know exactly what you mean about those lightsaber scenes aboard the Falcon, besides the overall yellow tint and green highlights on this LD, some shots like those you described need to be corrected individually. The same goes for contrast and brightness in many scenes.

There's no question about it, a CLD-D790 cannot compete with an X9. Other things of importance is of course how you capture it, how many captures you're willing to do for post-processing etc.

Btw, which guy with an X9 are you speaking about?

Hi everyone, I'm trying to get ahold of this torrent now that I'm home but it's awful slow. If anybody could hop on and seed I'd be eternally grateful!

Hi bkev, sorry I am now seeding, but my upload-speed seems to be terrible at the moment for some reason. :(

It's all right.  I typically prefer not to use torrents because my internet's not always on the most cooperative side anyway, so it might not be all your fault.

There is definitely some problem at my end, don't know if it is some setting on the computer I have at the moment that is causing it, hopefully someone else will join and seed soon.

I just just finished watching this. Even with its various defects I loved it. I can't wait to see a transfer of Empire. If you ever redo this transfer, could you please include Hairy Hen's mix as an option? That alone would make it my favorite copy of Star Wars.

As this project is GOUT synced, you could always add that mix yourself.......

Thanks, I'm glad you liked it. :) When I return to it I will probably use his improved 70mm reconstruction. Like russ15 said, the video of the current one is synced up frame by frame with the NTSC GOUT, so it's easy to replace the audio with your favorite mix that has been synced to it, I will probably do the same with my 2nd version, that way I don't need to sacrifice precious video bitrate. If you don't know how you demux and remux the DVD with your audio of choice, ask me and I'll describe it for you. It's a very fast and easy procedure.

My Empire SWE LD is actually already captured with all files saved on a external HD. I'm not sure yet how I will treat it on that one as it lacks many frames at every reel change, more than 100 frames compared to the GOUT transfer.

Thank you very much. Forgot it was GOUT synced, I'll have to try that. Can't wait for Empire.

BTW AvP, I love your cover, but you are missing a period after "space creatures." I fixed it for my own copy, but I figured I should let every one else know.

So to find a LD copy, is the only way to tell on the cover if the disc is the Technidisc pressing is if it says "Made in the USA"?

No, "Made in U.S.A." on the cover isn't enough. Such a cover might also contain shrinking-ratio discs from Pioneer's California factory.

I've seen a couple copies here and there. Is there a specific mint marking to look for?

msycamore - did you ever think about releasing your next version as an x264 mkv ? In that way you could add ALL sound mixes to one video without losing any video quality

Sorry for being a noob, but what does "GOUT" stand for?

George's Original Unaltered Trilogy (i.e. the 2006 DVD release bonus discs). More acronyms explained here.

(I should probably add CPY to the list).  :-)

George's Original Unaltered Trilogy.

Usually refers to the non-anamorphic "bonus discs" that came out in 2006.

And Moth3r beat me to it by a mile! That's what I get for taking a bathroom break before hitting reply! ;)

Ugh.  Not to be... THAT guy... but I seem to have lost this before I got the chance to watch it.  If anyone would be kind enough to seed for me (again) I would be most grateful.

MySpleen? Sure, I'll rip my disc after I finish some stuff tonight.

Ah man, I forgot this was Rar'ed. I don't know if I'll be able to help.

I'm sorry to hear that, bkev. Unfortunately there is not many seeders left on this one, it's also available on the newsgroup if you don't have the patience with torrents.
