Here’s an idea I came up with yesterday. I don’t know how workable it is, and perhaps it’s on the hokey side, but here goes:
The Death Star II isn’t real. It’s a giant hologram, projected by the “shield generator” on the Endor moon. Palpatine came up with the ruse of a second Death Star to lure the Rebel fleet into a trap, where they would be kept from escaping by interdictor cruisers and pummelled by Star Destroyers. Instead of taking place on the Death Star II, the Luke/Vader/Palpatine confrontation could take place on the Eclipse. Perhaps a Rebel team could infiltrate and commandeer the bridge of the Executor, crash it into the Eclipse, severely damaging the Eclipse and sending it plummeting head-long into the gas giant of Endor itself.
