Honestly, my number one ask is to replace that matte painting shot when Han is departing with the strike team and talking to Lando with the falcon in the background. It is the most obvious matte shot in the entire saga in my opinion. I am still shocked Lucas didn’t tinker with it during the special edition. Especially in HD it always stands out to me like a sore thumb to me.

It’s hardly noticeable

I think the problem is they used a matte for the entire backdrop. They usually work a lot better when there’s other objects that help blend in to it. Like if the Falcon was a model, the rest as a matte wouldn’t be so bad. That poor ship is rough looking though.

I think it’s a lot worse in motion. Also, the left side behind Lando looks so flat. And something is weird with the perspective, especially if you focus on the bottom of the frame when they start moving around near the end of the shot.

it’s way too low in the shot, as opposed to how straight on Han and Lando were shot.
but I’m pretty sure adywan confirmed he is replacing these with miniatures.

It’s odd because the original painting by itself looks great. Even more so for the one Ady replaced in ESB:R. I really think it has something to do with the lighting and the way they were composited. Regardless, I look forward to seeing what Ady does with the shot.

There are serveral glaring issues with the shot. Although it is a beautiful matte, it does not look realistic in motion. Looking at this it definatly seems like a reshoot (or a way to comp to two actors into one shot becuase they weren’t there on the same day?), becuase they clearly had a set scene in the two closeup shots. But it has a massive inconistancy in ship placements from hanger establishing shot, to the wide with Lando and Han, the falcon is facing a different way. Then when Han walks of screen to the shuttle, it is on a completely different side of the hanger. The whole sequence is messed up start to finish.
On third viewing im wrong about how the ship placement is wrong, it more that there isn’t enough space for the location where Han and Lando talk, based on the Establishing shot, as its meant to be in the lower right corner, between the two ships, but there is something off about the scale/lighting/preportions of those shots, whihc is why that section reads badly, IMO.

At the end of the day, the worst part of that shot is when Lando seems to walk outside the reach of the stage lights 😂, I wonder how adywan’s gonna fix that.

Maybe have him walk ‘under’ something like a parked B-Wing if he decides to ‘fix’ the matte painting (just a random thought). But perhaps there are easier solutions.

that might work actually.

I’m just glad to know I am not the only one that found that matte background kind of wonky during Han and Lando’s dialogue exchange. Diverging a bit, but has Ady ever indicated how the Boba “death” may be altered or if his fate in Book of Boba Fett would be taking into consideration moving forward with this edit? I know that series was not the most popular and I never liked how Boba’s “downfall” was handled in RotJ. I just don’t know if there is happy medium where his “demise” in RotJ can be fixed, but he still ends up emerging from the sarlacc like in the beginning of that show.

Now it’s been a while since watching RotJ where I’m wondering… was there ever an establishing shot of the planet Sullust where the Rebels were having their rendezvous prior to the DS2 attack? Could something like this be on the cards? Maybe some random ship (like the Ghost) could enter the planet’s atmosphere and land where the base is at to show where the meeting is taking place?

Actually, come to think of it, they were still in their ships, weren’t they? Maybe a backdrop of Sullust then…

I love Boba Fett and have never minded the way he “went” out. Glad we got the show too.

Honestly, his scene in ROTJ just adds to the chaos that Luke started on the Sail Barge and I love it. Also helps to show that Boba is just a normal guy who can kick ass and not some almighty action hero like everyone likes to portray him.

The Skywalker Saga:
I · II · III · IV · V · VI · VII · VIII · IX
This is the way.

The entirety of the Rebel rendezvous takes place on the Rebel Starcruiser. There’s no planet visible, and although Vader says they’re massing near Sullust, “near” in the grand scale of space can 100% mean that no planet, or even the star Sullust orbits (or maybe Sullust is the star), should appear. On the galactic scale, “near Earth” could mean somewhere beyond Pluto. The lack of any notable stars or planets in all of the exterior shots of the Fleet enhances the sense of isolation and attempted hiding from the Empire.

Thanks for the clarification…

I saw the addition of “Rex” in RotJ too. I think it is pretty subtle, but is a nice easter egg. I would not mind at all if this made it into REVISITED EDITION edit.

At the beginning of the movie, there’s a continuity error with two matte paintings that are meant to be the same hangar exterior, but from different angles.

See how there’s a hangar missing on the far right of the second shot that was in the first shot?

Actually, someone brought it up in the comment section of the comparison video. Thought I’d share it so more people would know.
