Unless I missed it here's something I don't recall seeing too much talk about. The menus....at what point does AdY begin that process? Is is something he'll be doing last?

Any word or details on what the menus may look like this time out?

there'll be twice the menu's too...as i heard he wants to do 2-disc sets from here on out (hopefully ANH:R:HD will be done the same way)

That's not necessarily true. AVCHDs to my knowledge don't have menus, therefore the 720p version wouldn't have a menu. I doubt he would spend too much time making a menu for the DVD version of the film, maybe scene selection and subtitles. I'm sure the Bonus disc will be as fancy as the main disc of ANHR1.

AVCHD's can have menus, Q2's edits have them (although they are very simple).

Oh I do hope it has a menu. That was one thing that gave you the instant feeling with ANH:R that this was designed to look like you could have picked it up off a store shelf. :-)

I agree. The superior look and feel of these films with the added bonus of completely professional looking menus is what allows me to replace the official DVDs in my collection with these.

"Thanks DF Shadow for bringing us back on topic"

No prob!

Regarding the menus...I recall being pleasantly surprised with ANHR as I was just expecting the movie. I'm curious to see what we get this time around.

Perhaps Vader's meditation pod and the big screen can be the scene selections?

Yes, let's do that.

Menu should have less smiles. and a brighter eye. ;)

I don't care if the menu is 8 bit and brown, as long as it allows me to watch ESB R.

"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

What if one of the menus consisted of the asteroid field, and the Falcon and various TIEs could pass by occasionally in this one solid shot of the asteroids slowly floating about... and the biggest/closest asteroids could be menu options.

I'm not that fussed about menus.....the official SW menus frustrate me as they take so long to play out before you can make your selection...if I could switch them off I would.....the menus in the GOUT versions are much better.

In an age of hard-drives/ps3's etc, menus are a bit old fashioned.....waste of time & effort.....don't see menus in the cinema.

This is a little off topic, but the problem I have with most of today's menus is that they give away too much of the movie. Someone who has never seen a movie before can have everything spoiled just by seeing the main menu. The same can be said for most of the movie trailers we see today as well. It's a sad state of affairs.

Menus should be 12 parsecs wide and always shoot first ^^

Cinemas don't give you access to scene selection or bonus features like alternate audio tracks and subtitles either. I want those features on my home theater collection, though. Yes, I can access subtitles and audio tracks with a button during playback, but if I want to jump to a specific scene, a menu up front is easier than hitting "Skip" 15 times.

I'm not putting down Ady's fantastic menus he made for ANH:R...I personally just use menus to access features & to jump to chapters, my ideal DVD would be a movie which plays the main title first....if you need to access anything, press menu, it would have options there ready and waiting for you to select...you don't have to wait for a clever animation to play out...perhaps you need to go to chapter selection....you select 'chapter selection' and you go to a page which has more than 6 windows to select and not a further 8 pages to go through to find the chapter near the end of the movie.

To me a more simple background menu system would be more useful...the star of the show should be the main title.

Interesting — the only thing that annoys me more than a DVD which jumps straight into playing the main title is one which plays the menu once, THEN jumps straight into playing the main title anyway.
