Good grief. I never new that. You don't really see the ship other than the wings. Wow. Money well spent!

I guess that's my complaint of re-doing it (although I just saw you video on youtube and it looks terrific): It was such a functional shot that simply communicated that someone was traveling from one ship to the other, and did it beautifully.

I never really got why Needa needed (?) to fly over to the Executor anyway; Ozzel is killed while speaking to Vader via hologram, so if Vader was just going to kill Needa anyway, why waste time allowing him to come over to apologise.

I think it just shows that Vader doesn't care how much time is wasted, when he wants to send a message, he'll send it.

As I have always said.........I would have left Needa's shuttle as a TIE Shuttle.

The TIE Shuttle was conceived for ANH's opening scene but never used, but the design did make its appearance in ESB as Needa's shuttle & as a bomber.

Before I did my first Youtube mock-up, I did try to convince Ady to keep the TIE Shuttle as it was as I thought a Lambda shuttle was a bit OTT to make a Star-Destroyer to Star-Destroyer trip......and the Lambda shuttles are a bit over used in the films.....thats when I suggested maybe a Shuttle classier than a TIE Shuttle/Bomber design, just for interstellar flight thus keeping its solar panels...thats my Avatar.

......but alas Ady said no.........Lambda shuttle it is.

What's interesting is that in the script the shot of Needa's shuttle doesn't appear at all. It's simply described as:

EXTERIOR: SPACE -- IMPERIAL FLEET

The fleet around Vader's Star Destroyer now includes Needa's Star Destroyer, the Avenger.

It makes sense as to why it was changed. It would be easier to make clear to the audience what's going on by showing a shuttle than just showing a Star Destroyer.

As for why they used what looks like a Tie Bomber, that goes back to the concept work for A New Hope. They had originally designed a boarding craft that was later written out of the script:

When it came time to make the Empire Strikes back they resurrected the design and used it for Needa's shuttle:

Then added a chute to make it a bomber:

LOL. I think it's pretty obvious that the Tantive was brought into the Star Destroyer's landing area and boarded via a platform or bridge of some sort.

It's a bit bigger than that. =P This delves into EU territory but it's been estimated to hold around 12 passengers, which given that it was supposed to be used to board the Tantive makes sense. Anyway, we should probably start steering the thread back on topic. I like what we've seen of Needa's new shuttle for Revisited.
