I think Ady already confirmed he'd be using the same 'adywan' intro as he did for ANH:R, but themed to suit ESB instead (the previous intro had visual elements from the Battle of Yavin)

I'm with 005 on this one. The idea's very cool as an intro to a bonus disc, but for me, that classic 20th Century Fox fanfare and logo, followed by the Lucasfilm logo, is the start of Star Wars. Tinkering with it, therefore, seems like a bad idea to me.
I'm sure I'm not alone in saying that, to this day, whenever I'm watching a movie from 20th Century Fox and that logo and music start up, for a fraction of a second I get excited because my brain thinks it's about to see Star Wars (see... Pavlov was right!). Why mess with something that ingrained our our collective heads?

Indeed he did. However they are talking about replacing the logo
at the beginning of the film itself, not just a clever DVD intro.

Well I'm sure Ady would never consider that. Not only is the fox logo an iconic part of the Star Wars experience, but faneditors are already pushing their luck enough by distributing edits, let alone edits where the studio credit is replaced by an editor's credit. That's pretty much inviting a cease and desist response. Let's not provoke Lucasfilm/fox any more than necessary eh?
My idea was to keep the 20'th Century Fox logo but have the Cloud City ships flying around, etc.
A kewl idea, to be sure, but as brash noted, hardly kewl enough to risk bringing down the wrath of Lucasfilm and/or 20th Century Fox merely for the sake of having a nifty intro logo. Fanediting is already a legal grey area, and messing with the original financing studio's logo might be viewed by some as a bridge too far.
Every 27th customer will get a ball-peen hammer, free!
As nostalgic as it might be to use the classic 20th Century Fox Logo; the New one used in AVATAR blows it away with better detail and dynamics. A perfect fit for EMPIRE: Revisited in my opinion. I hope Ady will consider using it.

Yes. One after the other. That'll work. Such a visionary!
Personally my Pavlovian juices only really get moist when I see the old Lucasfilm logo (I associate the twinkly one with so much disappointment) but it would be daft replace the twinkly one with a nice clean reconstruction of the old one just to get me dribbling...Oh Zeus Plugs did I actually type that?
I say, save Adywan the work and let it be the one he feels like doing, and that way it'll be his vision and not someone elses.
"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

It must have been very much a love/hate thing if fishmanlee's old avatar got you moist whenever you saw it then ;)
Talking of which someone really should clean this sofa cover...opps TMI !

The new one doesn't twinkle dude. It does; however, have more reflection, and some new geometry, plus a more realistic background. If you want to see a logo that does in fact twinkle, just go watch a Disney film.
Just think of the new Fox logo as ( 20th Century Fox logo: Revisited ).
I think the old original Fox logo is better suited for the unaltered trilogy IMO.
Anyway, Ady probably likes the old logo better, which doesn't bother be at all.

My brain works the same way.
You're not the only ones.
From the '97 SE soundtrack liner notes:
It was George Lucas' inspired creative stroke to reintroduce [the Fox fanfare] when Fox released Star Wars in 1977. Within a few years, the fanfare was in general use again, and to the Star Wars generation, the fanfare became so identified with the films that a truly complete presentation of the music from the soundtrack would be amiss to eliminate it.
My outlook on life - we’re all on the Hindenburg anyway…no point fighting over the window seat.
I'm going to have to see this new Avatar Fox logo next to the existing one. You know how I like comparisons!

Yes, yes... we're long overdue for a comparison pic!

I think you misread my post, I was talking about the Lucasfilm Ltd logo not the Fox logo, you might not call this twinkly :
but whatever it is I personally prefer the old plain green text on black unfussy one.
It went better with the "A long time ago...." card and it just reminds me of a time before CGI Jawas and Greedo shooting first not that I'm suggesting changing it because ANH:R didn't and it wouldn't match up.
