Happy New Year to all.

If all goes to plan, we'll have something to really look forward to this year, and it's gonna be very interesting to finally see everything that Adywan ends up choosing (or being able) to enhance for his latest edit.

I've certainly been amazed by the amount of subtle and not-so-subtle inconsistencies spotted by others so far that I never noticed before....some of which may have to remain in 'ESB:Revisted'.  However, it's going to be a real treat to see so many of them being fixed now, no matter how small, just as it was with 'Star Wars:Revisited' too.

No, it's a special thank you to those that donate. I didn't donate to get the clip, I donated because I had some extra money on hand and really appreciate adywan's work.

I frankly have no idea what your second and third "sentences" mean.

I know, i rock sometimes :P

Well when Vader chokes needa and he falls/kneels down the camera focus changes. Because the timing of the focus changing and the fall of needa is so close it looks like Needa bends the floor. I suggest it to ady to fix it as an error but at the end its just an awkward camera effect :)

it also happens in ANH too when threepio turns to say something to artoo after looking out at the troopers by the falcon

Well, that's rude, haven't you been around here long enough now to understand how things work? or read up on what has been said and posted?!

It's a fan movie and it is free, but we the fans have the ability to to help chip in, it's now a team effort..we all pull for the right man to do the right work ! :)

It is a BIG thank you to those who have found it in their heart and wallet to donate an unknown amount to this project...ppl have been donating now and then.

One has even been kind enough to donate a screen and there was a lottery  last year it the possibility to get a Empire: R work print.

I think it's nice to see fans help, donate things and money towards the completion and betterment of Empire: R, if they feel they can.

thanks Adywan !

and thanks Ming and posse for doing the extra work :)

I don't know if anyone has ever tried this before but it would be amazing if someone could engineer a binaural Star Wars soundmix.

You'd have to have a pair of headphones to enjoy it.

I assume if someone had a binaural recording set up and could isolate the various sound elements and figure out accurately the directions they were coming from it would be a really cool feature.

If anyone here hasn't heard a binaural recording it's a freaky experience.

Remember they only work through headphones.

If there was ever a Revisited feature that would be unique it would have to be something like this.

Well its 2010. Hope to see this in the next 12 months. Will there be a purist edition like anh?

This is very interesting Bingowings, if you check Wiki for binaural recordings, it describes how to create this effect for headphones. To record this way you would need 2 microphones set up exactly like your ears on a dummy head with moulds of the folds of your outer ears to ensure the soundwaves are recorded exactly as you would hear them, you would then record the live playback of 5.1 (or better) soundtrack.

This is a professional dummy-head microphone for binaural recordings,

I think it would be a great experiment, would need to make moulds of my outer ears though.

Terrific idea!  Anyone and everyone should listen to "Digital Barber Shop", but with your eyes closed and headphones!  It's beyond freaky and cool.

At the very least it must be possible to do a binaural recording of a very good home theatre playback to give a faux surround for headphones mix.

I imagine the sort of audio recording nerd (I use the term with the highest praise for such a noble beast) who attempts binaural recordings would also be the sort of person with the latest surround set up.

Either way it would sound better than dobly ;-)

I work for a UK AV company, can get my hands on HQ condenser mics and have home theatre so I guess I could be that nerd, I don,t have false ears though!

Only thing that has me wondering about a holophonic ESB (would this be the first 3D sound movie?) is the question of where the music will go.

To paraphrase Doc Brown "I'm sure in 2010 false ears are available at every corner joke shop, but in 1955 they're a little hard to come by."

This page might be helpful if you are serious about giving it a go :

This might be a helpful page for trying to fake the effect :

Here the BBC have a go at a rather chilling Sci-Fi scenario in binaural.

Don't some DVD players/sound cards already have this kind of "virtualisation" for headphones? Binaural recordings are great, but I don't think they're of any real use with 5.1 mixes - it certainly won't make them sound any better.

I think the only way to make a decent binaural mix for a sci-fi movie would be in the computer, with completely separate sound elements with 3D positions.

Haven't posted in quite a while (though I followed the progress of the thread), but after hearing some samples I must say - those binaural recordings sound amazing! I would attempt to make such a recording (my father is an audio nut), but even his best 5.1 system is pretty mediocre compared to the professional stuff available in the West.

Still, I hope someone can make it, it really sounds great and immersive.

Ady's new clip (from December) was great, the colors are far better than either the original or 2004 DVD releases. Maybe somewhat darker night scenes could help, but I like it so far.

Two thumbs up for the blizzard outside the hangar, when the doors close - that would be a great addition!
