Lucas and co seem to be content to let us be as long as we're not attempting to profit. Ady has made it clear that these donations are only donations, that he's not making any profit off them, and that he is not selling the film.

OK. I was wondering because other Lucas-based projects have flat out refused to take any donations. He's been doing this a while so I guess he's safe.

I am very impressed in how much he's got done now, I am saving up for a larger donation because I don't want him to get slammed with mutiple paypal fees if I were to send mutiple smaller donations.

Just donated. not much because my bank account is pretty dry at the moment, but hopefully every little helps.

Actually, Ganamae, who won the workprint, came up with a great idea on what i could offer to help generate the much needed donations. So here it is:

Anyone that donates from today will have a chance to have a cameo in ESB:R. There are a limited amount of places i can insert members, but i need to go through the whole movie to determine the exact amount. So, if there are more donations than places, another draw will take place. But its probably about 20 places to give you some idea. Plus each person that donates will get to see the behind the scenes footage a MONTH before anyone else once the footage is completed.

Well, I am here too help, like the rest of the scum and villainy in here ;) thanks.

Every little helps

It's there.  The hotmail one.  Just take out the "at" and "dot"s and substitute the punctuation that should be there.

While that 'cameo' idea sounds fun, it's a little scary that we might end up seeing 'replacement' faces that may be more at home in the Cantina Bar for all we know!

Although the project itself should be incentive enough for anyone, that early 'behind the scenes footage' suggestion sounds a winner to me, although I like the idea of an 'unreleased' clip being a possible option sometime too.

I see you're using the smiley then!  :)

It's times like this that I wish I had more than $10 in my bank account.  Fucking college.  Rest assured, when I have the funds, I'll gladly donate again.  :-)

And I honestly didn't think you had so much of the film done already, Ady - I'm quite pleasantly surprised.  You work much more quickly than I do, for sure!

How much is a typical donation, what is the norm to make it worth it? and what is needed to make this cameo? and where do we send the donation to? I would love to help out.

feel free to PM the info if you like

Oh and by the way, where can one buy these master replicas like the Falcon Ady bought?! Anyone?

thanks !

The one Ady got is a kit from Fine Molds of Japan, who recently announced that it's officially discontinued and out of production, so whatever stock is floating around out there is the last of it.  If you want one, be prepared for $300 easy.  New & current $200 was the going rate.

I was under the impression it cost a lot more than that, or maybe I'm confused by the inflated post-deletion prices. I thought it was over $1000 originally.

I've been working on a cover for TESB:R  (I'm also gonna make a new ANH:R cover as well) - here's the TESB one so far:

It's obviously based on the official style DVD covers and also a couple of fanmade one's out there. What do you guys think of it - any suggestions on how to improve it?

EDIT: I tried making it small, but it won't let me post it small for some reason - so sorry if it's taking up space.

No, it's two different products.  The Master Replicas one is pre-finished and complete - take it out of the box, put it on your shelf and kiss it goodnight every evening.  The Fine Molds one is an 800+ piece model kit that you have to build one piece at a time.

Ady, thanks for the update and sneak peek at the Vader shot (and thanks too to Angel for pointing it out).

A couple questions for you though:

First, could you refresh my memory... why are you doing a new Echo Base and Falcon model?  I forget what problems these were supposed to help you fix (i.e., specific shots?  Continuity issues?)

Secondly, what are the donations helping you with exactly?  I'm assuming they're going towards materials for the various physical elements you're currently constructing?

Lastly, the idea of pasting our faces into ESB:R is interesting, but I wonder if I'd even like to see my own face in it (on the one hand it would be kinda cool, but on the other it might take me out of the movie... and yet I'd be IN the movie... how ironic).  At any rate, regardless of the whole cameo thing, I wasn't aware that funds were still so desperately needed, and I'd like to contribute again.  Before I do, though, is there any "minimum" donation that makes it worthwhile?  I ask only because once the funds get changed from Canadian to British currency, I'm not sure how "usable" a donation becomes.

And please, don't ever let a lack of funds, some people's desire for a definitive release date, or simply exhaustion discourage you from finishing this edit.  I'd rather ESB:R take 20 years to complete than to have you abandon it altogether :)

Now go get some sleep man! :)

That's a good point.  Can you post a "shopping list" of sorts of how much you estimate you need for various projects?  That will give us a better idea of how much to send.

Whatever happened to 'every little bit helps'? ;) I personally send what I feel I can justify in sending at the time, which is the way it should be for everyone, innit? Last donation I gave was a modest £10, I believe, and I didn't think 'what's the point?' Sure, the shopping list might be nice to see, but I hope people don't feel pressured to give beyond their means.

It looks like you've been burning the midnight oil at both ends. I didn't think the edit would be that far along already.

I'm assuming the stuff left to do is probably the more difficult and time consuming model-related shots, but still nice to see so much done.

I hope I can donate before this thing is finished. I want to help out, but unfortunately the ol' checking account balance is below zero :(

If this project is still going after I move to Nashville and get a job then I will donate. But as of now if I open my wallet, moths will fly out.

"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

Right, but wouldn't you feel stupid if you sent him $20 when sending him $25 was what he needed to move on to the next step?  Granted I'm just using those numbers as an example, but you get my logic.

Likewise, if everyone can see how much he needs for different projects, it gives a more tangible gauge for how much to donate, as well as a better way to see how far along things are at any given point, avoiding the constant "So when will this be done?" questions every three pages.

Surely it can be assumed that others are contributing too, and no-one except Adywan knows how much each individual here has donated, but it's all helping towards whatever is required?

I guess there's not a precise amount that Adywan can say at the moment, except he'll need as much help as possible, up until the point he lets us know he doesn't need any more.  There's ongoing materials needed for the further 'Revisited' instalments into the future, after all....

very good now for comments: luke and vaders sabers look weird, yodas face is kinda strange near the bottom, the "revisited" should be shifted over to the left a little bit so the "the empire strikes back" is in between the end of the "R" and the end of the "D" and it looks a bit blurred, vader look kinda looks stretched and the end of Luke's saber is pointy/blocky.

I agree.  I was tempted to ask how much was needed as well, but in the end decided to just pick a value that wouldn't hurt the checkbook too much.  I don't think you have to worry about making the amount too big or too small.

Multiple smaller donations versus one larger one shouldn't matter too much, if I've understood the paypal fee structure correctly.  It seems to be a small percentage (like 2%) plus a flat 30 cent US per transaction.

Without speaking to the specifics of the cover (I'm horrible at judging that kind of stuff), I have to ask: Do we really want to be reminded of the Official DVDs?
