This is perhaps getting a lil nitpicky but there are two small antennas of some sort on Leia's building that are not seen from the other side when she is seen walking in the window. Can they be erased?

Sorry about that last post. It seemed like a good idea at the time. I don't know what I was thinking.

Hey Adywan, could you take a picture of your working enviornment for the revisits and post it on this forum? I would like to see what your computer and desk space looks like on a typical day?

Don't be afraid to nitpick. The more information Adywan has, the better... well not redundant information. ;-)

You seriously think Lucasfilm has a team spying on this forum? I highly doubt it. They couldn't even detect the green lightsaber in the '04 version.

I always imagined adywans work space to be messy. Its not a bad thing. People work the best in unkempt conditions. I know I do. When people like girlfriends or family try to clean up my workstation I can't be as productive. So adywans probably got more than one room that he does these edits anyway. If his workstation looks like mine He is getting alot done.

Oh you didn't hear. George Lucas suddenly got a fetish for the color green so all of lukes sabers will be green to fit with his favorite movie return of the jedi. Then he is gonna make Jar Jar Binx a sith lord.

Wow, I haven't checked into the forums for a few days and I had over 10 pages to catch up on. There were certainly some interesting topics going on.

Monroville, I agree with you 100% concerning the wildly vaying quality of CGI work in today's films. Funny, a couple of the examples you used are the same ones that come to my mind when discussing CGI and modelwork. Jurassic Park was a great example of how even early cgi, done right, has a place in film. I was amazed as well when I saw the behind-the-scenes shot of The Terminator truck miniature. It still looks real even today. I feel miniatures are the way to go with most effects, but cgi definitely has a place. There are some things that cannot be done without cgi, and that's when it should be used. I notice now when watching alot of 80's sci-fi, the thing that really stands out is the use of blue screens. So many shots look awful simply because it is so obvious that a blue-screen was used. So as much as I defend miniatures, I certainly recognize that old-school effects were far from perfect, just as cgi is also. But when done right, both have their own place in film. As has been said, I think that the effects houses do not yet know how to present their cgi models in a real-world environment. Miniatures have the benefit of real-world lighting and camera depth-of-field that cgi has to replicate artificially. Until that's done consistently, cgi will always look out of place.

Back on topic, I think that the lizards on Dagobah look fine as they are. Our rebel heroes sure look like us, I have no problem with believing that they have snakes and other creatures that very closely resemble ours. I loved what Ady did with the Cantina, it definitely added life to the scene. And Ady's enhancements to Yoda and the Tauntauns work wonders, because again it is adding life to something that doesn't really exist. But the snakes and lizards on Dagobah are actually alive, and thus do not need any work done on them to convince us that they are living creatures. Of course, that's just my opinion, but I think that should be the last thing Adywan looks at considering the huge amount of work ahead of him.

Can't wait to see the trailer!

They did use alot of elements besides just cgi they even used puppets for the head. That movie was way ahead of its time. I saw the documentary of it. They were gonna use stop motion animation. But they pushed technology. I don't think any film in the past 10 years has raised the bar quite like jurrassic park. They made me sink in my chair with the raptors. It is just a beautiful film. I wish spielberg would make films like he did from the late 70's to early 90's. His works were always so beautiful.

Concerning Focuspuller's comments lately, I do think that when working on a project such as this, it doesn't hurt to be careful. Remember what happened to fanedit.org a while back. And keep in mind that studios, as well as the RIAA, MPAA, and software developers, all keep an eye on the torrents for copyright infringement. Just take a look here http://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/news/2009/05/france-set-for-showdown-with-eu-after-passing-3-strikes-law.ars  and you can see how serious governments are gettings with copyright. Caught 3 times downloading copyrighted material? No internet for you! Come back, one year! Now, I'm sure that most studios do not scour the internet daily looking for new forums that may or may not be infringing on their copyrights (It's easier to just watch the torrents). But Adywan has certainly put his name out there with his ANH:R project, and has certainly gotten some attention. I wouldn't be surprised one bit if somebody at lucasfilm is indeed keeping one eye on us over here, just in case things get too out-of-hand. We're fortunate that for the time being, fanedits are tolerated, for the most part, by studios. I'm sure Focuspuller is just concerned for are continued survival.

I certainly have no objections to Ady's use of the "Adywan Productions" logo, though. I thought it was very tastefully done in ANH:R, and was right where it should have been - at the introduction of the DVD, not the film itself. Many other fanedits contain the faneditor's logo of some sort, and Ady's is certainly the nicest I've seen.

Hollywood really sucks. How many people watch action movies nowadays were somebody flips a car or something to that effect and cannot help but say BULLSHIT? Movies like Star Wars are ment to show the impossible that is why I like it. But you have movies like wanted were they curve bullets and fly. It is all crazy. I can't watch fighting movies at all. Sorry for the rants. When I make a movie I am not going to do it under hollywoods wing. Too many movies with big potential get screwed over by my country the supposed great US. I hate our television. How many reality shows are on nowadays? Too many as far as I am concerned. Then you have spin offs of reality shows. Who the crap cares about flava flav? Who cares about some ho who won on his show. Their is a double standard in this industry. What happened to my awesome cylons in battlestar. The coolest characters of all turned into people. I deeply apologize for going way off topic but I ponder these things every single day. Is it as bad outside the states? Do you all have to watch horrible shows and movies and spinoffs of horrible shows and movies? Or is it all wonderful and exciting? oh and other words. Beverly Hills Chiauaua (sorry cant spell). Need I say more? I just hate that we keep are big noses in celebrities buisiness. I gotta sit for hours watching tv hearing about all the sluts in the media. You know what really grinds my gears? Every year their is another pixar movie. What happened to disney's animated films from the 30's - 90's they had some masterpieces. Damn I need to go bitch somewhere else.

I agree. I think another outstanding example of cgi is Final Fantasy:The Spirits Within. I realize that many did not like the storyline, but I think that as far as an animated film goes, it still stands tall as one of the best, visually speaking. And check out Vexille also. Mind-boggling animation.

And yeah Disney disgusts me nowadays. They had such beautiful animation. My girlfriend owns all the classics. I can't believe they dropped traditional animation in favor of all cgi. Walt would be crying if he were alive, but then it wouldn't have happened that way.

Now back to topic...

I always download things. BUT I do not distribute anything I download. I download for personal use only. I don't think they can lock you up for that. Now when you make a profit off of something you downloaded they can get your ass. I did something to that effect as a kid. I had a bag of jolly ranchers and sold em to kids for a dime a piece. LOL then I got in trouble by my parents and they made me give them their money back. BUT THEY GOT MY CANDY. In regards to what adywan is doing. I have heard from somewhere that Lucas films supports fan edits. Seeing as adywan tells everyone in his yellow letter commentary that i"f you bought this from somebody kick them in the nuts and get your money back unless it is a girl then just get your money back" I laughed but it is true. Then he had the Ady warning at the beginning of the dvd. So it is not illegal what he is doing. Downloaders can in turn make it illegal if they try to sell them to people. I am gonna just give my uncle a copy of it (he is an original 77 fan so he might love it)

Let me guess. Building Continuity errors again?

The last pic is a bit wrong and i did it in purpose. If the big skycrapper is behind from leias room then it would be in front of the camera.

A simpler solution is to alter only the shot that shows leia in the room which has not so much motion.

BUT: the Cloudcar platform is in bad place. Thank god that ILM used 3d elements so its possible to remake it higher.

EDIT: Ok i messed a bit the green lines. The platform should be a bit higher lol

And that leads onto something else -  if you choose to look on the 'apartment window' shot as being the WHOLE 'rounded end' of the top section of the building seen in the preceding shot....then the top section is only as wide as the 'apartment' is (very narrow in other words), and the position of the tall, fat building and platform is SIDE-onwards to the whole of Leia's building....

but if you look on the 'apartment window' shot as being positioned at the far edge of a WIDE top section, then the position of the tall, fat building and platform is facing DIRECTLY towards the end of Leia's building, and matches the positioning seen at the end of the preceding 'fly-by' shot too.  (I REALLY like the idea of something along the lines of the rough mock-up that Davnes007 came up with at the end of the previous page by the way, but again it's tricky because of the 'camera-movement' I suppose)

Also, shouldn't the single 'wine'-coloured stripe either side of the 'apartment window' area be covering the strips just above and below it as well, to better tie-in with the fatter 'wine'-coloured stripe seen in the preceding shot?  Especially since it was seemingly intended to represent the same structure?  It's just another example of sloppy continuity it seems.

Found a moment to chip in on this one -  this was something I intended to come back on sometime, since my comments above from part of a long post about this whole scene on page 295.

Since then, it seems that Adywan definately plans to keep the SE 'city fly-through' by the cloud car, which I really liked too.  However, I have no idea what the plans are for the very end of the SE shot (before it cuts to Leia pacing in the window), where there seems to be continuity problems with where the buildings are situated to each other.

Anyway, vaderios is correct about how the 'cloud-car platform' seems to be at the wrong height (in relation to Leia's building) between the 2 shots where it's seen in the overall scene.  Having studied the scene in motion a few times a while back, what I'd intended to suggest was that it seems that with the current layout between the 2 shots, if you watch the end of the SE shot (seen in vaderios MIDDLE photo above), it can be conceivably be imagined that there is ANOTHER similar 'tall, fat building' OFFSCREEN to the right of the frame too!  (At the SIDE of the SE building that Leia seems to be at the front-top of, according to where the cloud-car seems to fly between the 2 shots now)

To really sell this, one of the shots would have to have the 'rising cloud-car' and 'cloud-car platform' totally removed , and there could even be a little tweaking of colour to one of the shots, so that these now 2 DIFFERENT 'tall, fat buildings' looked even less identical if necessary.

Just an alternative thought, although Adywan might have changed a few things here already.

to be honest the whole interior and exterior is one big continuity mess. the only solution to solving this would be to change the building that Liea's apartment is in completely or lose the fly-through, which is something i really don't want to have to do.

I thought of another change to make in the movie.  I hope this doesn't get lost in the pile of trailer comments.

I think it would be cool to show yoda actually doing something to the ship so Luke can't control his landing when trying to land on degobah.  Right now it isn't clear why the ship goes all crazy and luke crashes.  Do you think it is a good idea to add somekind of flash or some other indication that the x-wing has a power outage or EMP blast or something.  This could imply that yoda is controlling the ship so it lands near him instead of on the other side of the planet.

what do you think?

no, i don't think we need to see anything like this. some things just don't need to be explained to us. Something that should have been adhered to in the PT

now i can't understand what the big fuss is about with me putting my logo in the trailer. it's certainly not an ego thing. i've seen other fan trailers that have had their logo in but no one has ever jumped on them for doing it. It's not as if i have put the logo in the movie. I got the same thing when i added my name in the credits for ANH.

I wonder if this would be possible to the "cloud car fly-by":

  • In the fly-by, modify the top of Leia's building so that only a small tower on the right-most tip remains.
Leia's window would then be facing left in the fly-by shot and the large bulbous building need not be changed here.
  • In the shot with Leia moving about, make the bulbous building slightly shorter to align the platform's height to the building's facade. I think that it would be easier to change it here than in the previous shot.
  • In the shot with Leia moving about, open up the perspective to how it was in the OOT by making Leia's window smaller and move it to the right. (This was discussed a few paged back)
This would reveal buildings to the right of the large bulbous building. I think that it would work to reuse lower-resolution sources to fill this space. The distance to the (old) buildings would be quite far, and we can explain the blurry pixels as "atmospheric haze"

What do you think? Should I paint a mock-up?
