it's nice to see the mockups, but personally, I'd leave it the way it was.

Davnes007, excellent job mate. I was skeptical about the idea, thought it would be too distracting, but yours is subtle and tasteful.
Very well done. B)

Well...here it is. I stayed up all night working on it, so watch it as many times as you can, and enjoy the epic'ness. :D

EDIT: I know that the text should be backwards, but I was too tired to go through the trouble of making it backwards, sorry.
...now...I have to get some sleep.................................
This is ultra great! I love the idea of showing different planets as Han han seems to be pressing buttons......if Ady can shake something like this in ESB:R I'm all for it, and it's not distracting at all....at leat to me (after the second time hehe)

Aaargh! My first double post :)
Edit: make that my first quintuple post! What the hell?

Davnes007, like everyone else, I think you did a great job on that clip. How you managed to whip that up in one night I don't know. With some of the refinements mentioned (i.e., smaller text, different colouring, juggling the placement of the images and text, etc.) it could work.
However, for the purposes of ESB:R, I'm not sure it'd be a good addition. Although pop-up HUD displays look OK in the PT ships, I ultimately think it would be out of place in the Falcon, whose instrumentation is very rudimentary and consists of physical parts (buttons, switches, etc.), just like all the other ships in the OT.
That said, again, it is a very interesting and well-executed concept. Who knows, maybe with some adjustments it would fit.

Quintuple post, each with one word differences! Weird.

I think my enter key got stuck... dammit.
Any mods around who can delete that?

If just the words were all in Aurebesh, and they were not backwards (mirrored) to Han and Leia.

Yeah I'm fine with it just the way it is. I also like the Darth Vader hologram as is.

Just sit back and enjoy the increased post count.
Ah....
Pretty sweet, isn't it?
I think one of the reasons the OT looks dated now is what precisely corellian77 pointed out: most of the OT ships have their cockpit full of knobs, switches and buttons, while most of the PT ships boast touchscreens, a middle ground must be found otherwise it makes the OT seem dated, not just by PT standards, but by any movie nowadays......nothing wrong with pop-up holos or nice screens, as long as they don't become too obvious, it would enhance the experience (ANH:R rebel war room anyone?) Let's take into consider how much an X-wing with screen similar to the Jedi-Fighter would gain in terms of giving a perspective of what the pilot saw. same with MF, furthermore with MF since that ships HAS been around since the time of the PT (EP 3 shows it) so it's only natural that MF would have touchscreens and all.....

Even though it was fun to see the mock-up i have to agree with what corellian77 said. The Falcon is a "heap of junk". adding HUD displays just doesn't fit with its character. Adding any sort of display is getting too close to PT territory (where every detail seems to have to either be explained or shown) for me. Its obvious they are looking at the display but do we need to see it? i say not. The focus is supposed to be on the interaction between Han & Leia. Adding a display of any kind for this scene would be a case of "adding it just because you can".

And that is why the design in the OT is so much better than the PT. Things seem more functional in the OT and the design elements made it look like a different time. Now look at the Pt and everything is just so flashy yet a lot of it looks like elements from today's society. Just because the falcon design was around in the PT era doesn't mean that it should have all the fancy displays we see. Look at today's cars for instance. there are so many varying features you can get with a car depending upon how much you are prepared to pay. The one thing i really want to do when i get to the PT is downgrade a lot of the technology and design. yeh, i can imagine that the queen of naboo would have a very expensive craft with the latest tech but other ships & environment do need the downgrade (which they actually did a bit for the jedi starfighter in ROTS)
and 005, good work on the translation. i can't remember exactly what i wrote on the rebel briefing displays but i'm pretty sure it was lines of dialogue from the movies
Figured you'd say that, Ady. Oh well, someone else can use it. Davnes, you can post it to the Wishlist thread for other people to be inspired by.
So, Ady, any comment on my translations?

What he said! I think It looks cool, but it's one of those things were "you" get to imagine what there seeing. The Ady Man has spoken. Lets not start the hologram debate of 09.
The person your searching for simply does not exist

Thanks, I really hurt my eyes on some of those. Darn you for lowering the lights in the briefing room! What about the upside down single words? They seemed like gibberish. And do the arrows in the battle hologram say things?

I'm glad to hear you say that adywan... I hate the whole touchscreen phenomenon that's infiltrated sci-fi/futuristic movies nowadays. Look at any recent sci-fi flick and it seems no one is putting any original thought into the displays -- they just slap a holographic touchscreen in there and call it a day. It's really too bad too, because some of the most convincing on-screen computer systems have been clunky, old-fashioned-looking things (i.e., Mother in Alien, Bladerunner's V.K. machine, etc.).
This problem is only exacerbated in Star Wars, because now you've got "older" ships in the PT that look more technologically advanced than those in the OT, despite the fact that it should be just the opposite. I don't know who's more to blame for this continuity error: the art department for designing these consoles/ships in the first place, or Lucas for giving them his seal of approval.
Don't even get me started on the difference between the PT and OT in terms of how realistic it appears getting a ship ready for flight (X-wings needing to be "fired up" and fuelled vs. just jumping in a cockpit and being ready for a joyride).
.... ahhh... rant over. At any rate, glad to hear you're sticking with the "change the PT to match the OT" mentality ady.

The holo thing is neat but the scene is better without it. Hans ship is low tech and should remain that way.

I think it must be a glitch with this type of forum or something, as I see this a LOT, whereas I almost never see it anywhere else. Would be great if we could delete our own posts, too, but I guess that's not going to be an option anytime soon if it hasn't been implemented by now. ;)
Anyway, great job on the Falcon mock-up, Davnes. Very neat. Like others have said, even if Ady doesn't want something like that in there (and I agree with his reasoning), someone might at some point.
ladyferry said:Please add it? I beg of you! its a stunning idea and we all love it...
Speak for yourself. I, for one, think it's completely pointless, and if it were in ESB:R I would begrudgingly accept it in the same way I begrudgingly accept the torture droid lightsaber in ANH:R.
So in other words, what I'm saying is thank you for not adding it, Ady. :-)
How about adding holograms all over the place like Coruscant in AOTC? I mean in bespin when lando alerts his people we could have holograms like Wall-e to indicate danger.
^Yeah of course im kiding. :P
