(PS: Ady, is the knobby white spider CGI or stop-motion?)

The spider is CG. And it looks creepy as hell in movement.

what's wrong with Ronster's mock up i thought the snow looked better than both the original and adywan's in that shot.

Personally I think there's enough of a chance that this is a glitch...a missed shot.....that i don't really count it as a suggestion. I'm a very detail oriented person. I tend to pick apart little things and have probably been the cause of a few eye rolls myself. I think Ronster goes even further (and sometimes too far) than I do. So that'll count for something when I say that, in this instance, I don't see it as a problem. Ady could very well have missed that shot, and Ronster catching it might just mean that ESB:R will be that much more consistent. It wasn't a suggestion for something new that's not being worked on.

jedimasterobiwan - like the mountainous backdrops and skies throughout the Hoth battle, the snowplains are inconsistent during many shots as well - sometimes things look smooth, while other times the snow is rougher-looking in places.  While Ronster's still mock-up looked good, I'm not sure if it's possible to do the likes of that on moving shots.

No worries here however, as I'd never have imagined the amount of work that adywan would end up doing already to make the Hoth surroundings feel more consistent.  A few differing snow bumps here and there are to be expected, considering how mis-matched a lot of the original shots are.

And also the problem with Leia remembering her real mother but Padme dies in ROTS will be fixed in the PT, so no changes are needed in ROTJ.

Do you plan on using The Cutter's technique of borrowing footage from The Other Boleyn Girl? I'm sure you'll do more than that, even if that's an element of it. Just curious how you plan to go about this, since I took a stab at it recently (though purely through editing).

My stance on revising fan edits.

Hal 9000 - in case adywan is too busy to get back to you on this, or doesn't want to cover it in this thread, let me refer you to a much more recent update to do with that issue near the bottom of this link - http://swrevisited.wordpress.com/rotjr-facts/

(for the record, I'm happy with this decision and am hoping it means he won't be going down the 'The Other Boleyn Girl' footage route.  It was a clever enough idea as a way to make sense of Leia's ROTJ dialogue, but I'm hoping this means he'll be sticking with actual ROTS footage one way or another.  But that's all for another day)

Hmm... It mentions removing some extraneous dialogue from Leia, but it doesn't sound from that like he plans to remove the menation of her mother. Or do you know that for a fact? It seems like he still plans to have Padme survive ROTS.

No idea which way he's going with that, but I'm hopeful as I say.

Edit: apologies Hal 9000, I wasn't concentrating properly, and just realised that the link I referred you to wasn't actually to do with Leia's 'memories' of her mother, after all.  So adywan *may well be* intending to 'save' Padme after all using the same technique.

Yeah, I think ImperialFighter may have got the wrong end of the stick there :p

In either case, Ady hasn't made public his specific plans for Padme in the Prequels, nor whether he'll go with that particular approach. There is another thread for discussion not directly related to ESB:R though. Ady is subscribed to it, so he may reply - though whether he'll divulge anything is another matter ;)

EDIT: ImperialFighter got there before me.

So that clarifies Padme's fate come the end of ROTS:R then. :)

The wording in the PT:R Facts section of the wordpress link kinda made it look like it could have gone either way, so nice to get that confirmed.

I hope everyone had a great holiday and ready for the new year!

Very good to hear that Padme will survive through ROTS.

While on this topic, I'd even say Padme should not be seen giving birth to the twins in ROTS:R. I think it was intended to be another surprise in ROTJ when we find out Luke has a sister (not as big of a bombshell as Vader to Luke in ESB, but a surprise nonetheless). If we see the birth of twins, even if their names weren't given, by ANH the audience will know who Luke is and likely predict who that sibling is early on - not good.

I wonder if Anakin's last name will even be mentioned in the PT:R.

So ideally, I believe it is best for Padme survive through ROTS:R and have it implied that she is pregnant with only 1 child, who we find out by the next episode is Luke (but in fact there were separated twins, one sent to Tatooine and the other to Alderaan for their safety).

Yeah, I completely agree with this.....I would very much like to see many of the OT surprises preserved in the PT.

Bringing this off-topic discussion sort of full circle, one of the OT surprises I would love to see preserved is Yoda being the little green dude Luke meets on Dagobah. Some people (Ady included) believe this was never intended to be a surprise, due to the promo material ruining it ahead of the film's release, but I think it absolutely was intended to be a surprise for the viewer and just happened to be ruined by shoddy and over-enthusiastic marketing. Nothing in the scene up until the "I cannot train him" conveys to us it's Yoda, so a fresh viewer is just as clueless as Luke is until that point.

Even though the "reveal" happens soon after we meet him, I still disagree that it isn't worth preserving. I was born in 1984, and first saw it on tv without anything to ruin it, and it was a great moment for me, personally. Whether removing Yoda, or hiding his identity in the Prequels is even possible is another matter entirely. There probably wouldn't even be a film left with all that Ady's going to have to cut anyway :)

The marketing material may have shown Yoda....the image of Yoda, as a "New Alien from the SW sequel!".....but did it ever specifically NAME him as Yoda before the film was released?

And even if it did, that only matters for a very specific (and long past) period of time. All these years later one definitely could decide to make the reveal a surprise. Many people seem to have interpreted it as such already.

I like the idea of having Yoda mentioned often, but never seen.  (Could be difficult with the material available but a nice thought nonetheless).   It adds an air of mystery to the character that when he does finally appear in ESB it is an even bigger reveal than it was before.

Also, I think it would be beneficial so this thread is not further delayed for Ady to possibly start a "Revisited Prequel Ideas Thread"  of some kind.

Thanks Muddy, I know I go too far and seem pushy... That whole thing about the escape from Echo Base was about showing what I had discovered though not asking you lot to change anything with the film, I thought it was worth sharing to raise awareness / orientation and shuffled scenes although I am probably part right and part wrong myself I am one to make mistakes like any Human Being does. Please try to understand that difference of just talking about something though. I was not trying to push a personal agenda on anyone. I always try to bring up something with a bit of meat to it rather than a load of waffle :) And you lot are the best and most important choice to share things of that nature with as you are the experts but I have no more left like that so don't worry :).

I put that bit of ground down to faded footage and / or originally filmed with the iris to wide open combo of no definition left in the footage perhaps negative 1 scan might reveal a definitive answer on this. Or it is a painting as I guessed previously?

Don't kill me, but I watched clip again and did spot a difference and it's on the new trench / shield gen shot. the exterior footage wiggles in the original but is static in revisited. I am putting that down to being composited parts though and not a final render behind the mask so I am not waving any fingers I think I understand why it has not got movement and would be wrong to say it's an error but only a difference and perhaps only a temporary difference until it is all finalized. So nobody roll any eyes please.

The new Dagobah Still looks perfect. There is no need for us to see a clip that one I am sure of it :)
