These parts may not make it into the final version if i can't get them exactly as i want them. Those shots are still a work in progress. At the moment i'm not happy with them.

Only the stardestroyer remains from the original. The starfield & tatooine are new composites.

Looks fantastic, Adywan!

I LOVE the new sandcrawler! And does Vader's helmet look shinier? The sound effects for the escape pod work well, and so does the new trajectory. NICE how it starts to burn up as it enters the atmosphere.

You're doing an excellent job, and I can't wait for this edit to be released!

YES! Alright, here we go...

Interior of the escape pod is now a uniform colour throughout the various shots and no longer changes from blue to brown
---an absolute must...very well done!

R2's arm now retracts after pressing the button to open the door to fix a minor continuity issue
---this is fun...never would have thought to do that

Enhanced escape pod blast off
---yep. love it!

New starfield & escape pod trajectory in the shot where the imperial officer says "hold your fire..."
---also good! It didn't really jump out at me...but that's probably good!

New stardestroyer & starfiled as 3P0 & R2 look out of the pod window. The stardestroyer now receeds more natural
---yeah, I can dig it!

Complete new effects shot of the escape pod heading towards Tatooine
---the only thing that looks a little funky are the suns. Maybe they can be put off screen just a bit more? Still love the shot though! I also like the pod catchin' on fire

Vaders chest plate now lights up
---yes yes!

Vaders eyes are now no longer red in any shot
---more yes yes! ......it also seems like you were able to clean up his voice a little more too...good job!

---OK, for the most part: great! A couple of shots that stood out: "I've just about had enough of you" shot...clouds move too quickly.

---I really want this one to work...but it doesn't-... right now. ...it would be great, because it makes 3PO's line "it's much too rocky" make since.

---I like it! It might be a little too sharp compared to the rest of the background though...

Thanks for the sneak peak. I really liked what you did with the escape pod sequence. The flames coming off of it as it enters the atmosphere seem to be going in a different direction than a few frames in. Maybe you could also put some flames on the pod as the droids are walking away from it?

It's a new sky when r2 is in the canyon, but this sky is still dark which never makes any sense to me, anyway i like the suns, but ya a lot of the roto looks kinda ruff, and i love the new background when r2 is leaving, but it too looks pretty ruff, i also have another request, when vader is talking to leia, look at her boobs, one of them looks messed up, like its one stacked on top pf another, if this can be fixed that would be cool, keep up the awesome work, i can't wait to see what the final product looks like!

I just wouldn't have the time available to do a project like that. Once i've finished EpIV i'll be moving straight on to EpV. Maybe someone will do it in the future though

Adywan,

Your latest clip is very impressive. I've got some comments:

Tantive IV is looking nice. Great colors. The blinking lights on Vader's chest are subtle yet awesome!

When the escape pod is launched, can you add a slight spin to it? It spins in all the other shots.

Some have complained about the shot with the twin suns as the pod heads toward the planet and enters the atmosphere. I have absolutely no problem with anything in this shot.

I agree with others that the added rocky landscape for R2 is a bit much. If you can maybe remove just that stupid TPM "bridge/eye of the needle" structure, I think you'll be in business.

Flipped footage of 3PO: I never had a problem with the flipped footage in the first place. Now that you've flipped it back the right way, I suggest you flip the following shot with 3PO next to the Krayt dragon bones to maintain consistency in direction. However, this will require a new wipe to the canyon scene.

i think there great, i loved the footage you have done and watched it a few times
some people i think complain too much and some stuff they say i think to myself
are ridiculous as what they ask, as some stuff is impossible to do as the only footage you
have is what is available on the DVD's

anyway i think its great work so far
i do read this thread regularly
just don't comment as much
but i am following this thread
and cant wait

thanks for the input guys.

Theres been a few modifications since i posted that clip. i couldn't get some of the shots (mainly the sky & the r2 heading off shots0 how i wanted them to look so i have reverted back to the originals for these shots. the matte for the Krayt dragon scene just wasn't working so that is now back to the original flip shot. I've slowed down the new sky that remains in a few shots and its looking much better now. the problem with a project like this is you can tend to get carried away with fixing stuff and its thanks to everyones help here that i can come back down to earth and see what is and isn't working.

I've also finally managed to enhance the Tantive IV shot when it gets hit. All those trials with new explosions etc and it turns out that just enhancing the original shot and reducing the smoke makes this shot finally work. Now, thanks to this, i have the first 40 minutes of the movie complete. I'm taking a week off from the effects work and i'm going to concentrate on the sound mix. I was thinking of posting the first 10 minutes or so of the completed version next week, but it all depends on how far i get with the sound mix.

the problem with a project like this is you can tend to get carried away with fixing stuff and its thanks to everyones help here that i can come back down to earth and see what is and isn't working.

I know exactly what that is like. I guess I assumed that's where you were coming from to begin with...so I've tried posting accordingly...hopefully it doesn't sound like I'm complaining. I just hope I'm giving imput that helps the project.
Again, I'm so grateful that someone is trying as much as you are, adywan. You're doing stuff to the movie I've wanted to see happen for years-...and then some!

Well i'm cracking on with the colour balance at the moment. Before i started i never realized just how screwed up the 2004 DVD's were. Removing the blue cast is only the first step. Some shots are just so messed up its going to be impossible to return it to what it should have looked like so i'm just going to have to do what i can to get this mess cleaned up.
