Reconstructing our Childhood - an idea...

Okay, I have seen a post here and a post there with people suggesting a “reconstruction” of the OOT through the use of the “official” DVDs and LaserDisc rips but no really big discussions… I thought it was high time we talk about this.

As some have pointed out, Lucas is obviously lying… the “bonus” disc in the new DVD Set is filled with cleaned up, anamorphic widescreen versions of the so-called “lost” footage that Lucas cut out in favor of CGI crap. You can find just about everything in the bonus features.

Tonight I sat down to watch “The Force Is With Them: The Legacy Of Star Wars” and unless I was just dreaming, this show even included the original Star Wars intro before the addition of the “Episode IV: A New Hope” and it was restored and in anamorphic widescreen.

I believe MagnoliaFan was putting together an OOT “A New Hope” utilizing a VHS screen cam of this original intro… the new DVD Bonus Features can now supply you with a digitally remastered, anamorphic version of this intro

So what does everyone think… can it be done… can we reconstruct the OOT by utilizing the “official” DVD Video plus clips from the bonus features and if and when necessary, audio from the LaserDiscs?

MagnoliaFan has proven that it doesn’t take a major studio to add in deleted scenes, introduce new dialogue and even change the language a character speaks in a movie. With the material that is available, is it possible to reconstruct our childhood memories?

Sure it is. And I for one would die to see the results.

Not every original version is on the bonus features. Han shooting first, entrance into Mos Eisley etc

I say we start planning a Laserdisc/DVD hybrid as soon as possible. A collective effort would be best.

I've done Han shooting first from DVD source, like I've said in other posts. If *I* can do it, I'm sure it's not difficult (and the only usable video editing tool I have is Virtual Dub).

Some things do indeed need to be restored from the laser. I don't think that's one of them.
