STAR WARS: EP IV 2004 REVISITED ADYWAN *1080p HD VERSION NOW IN PRODUCTION — Page 95

There is another thread concerning ESB and ROTJ wish-list. I'm sure Adywan is going to take a break after ANH edit, but ESB and ROTJ edits should be much easier to do, first, there is less to change and second, he has gotten very proficient in editing techniques.

BTW, improved Yoda would be great

I'm sorry to reply off topic,(sometimes I can't help myself), but the Frank Oz ESB Yoda is awesome and is one of the highlights of that movie. GL tried over and over to re-create a digital Yoda as good as the rubber puppet and never got there, IMO.

I love everybody. Lets all smoke some reefer and chill. Hug and kisses for everybody.

I've been confused as to where everyone else came from too. Must have been a great schism somewhere in another Star Wars website that sent everyone over here. As far as Adywan sequels go, I long to see those come to fruition too, but I know he'll need much-deserved rest first.

You've done us all a great service Ady.

Oh and to those out there hinting, screaming, pleading and implying a CG Yoda, I would like to respectfully comment that the puppet work of the ESB Yoda is the most amazing technical feat of the movie if not the entire series. Not for a moment did I believe in any of the CG incarnations of Yoda in the Prequels like I always do when seeing the ESB Yoda. Though I cannot speak for Adywan, if I was a betting man I'd say that's one element he's going to leave alone because Ady is all about aesthetic seamlessness - Everything he's agonized over has been to make sure every element looks like it belongs alongside the others - A CG Yoda was already a failure at ILM's level - a homegrown Yoda would be time consuming and ultimately breaking something that isn't broken.

Puppet Yoda rocks the house. Leave him be.

I was always a lurker until Ady had problems with the score of a certain spot and someone suggested the Shadows CD. I joined to offer my CD as help (great CD, by the way), but Ady had already sorted things out.

I don't want a new Yoda, but that was one of the few things that I could really find different between ESB and the prequels scopewise. I'm looking forward to what Ady can do to those, but first things first.

This is for anyone who can answer it:

Can someone just look at these two photos - these were posted back in March 07 in the OCPMovie CE 2.0 thread.

This photo:

http://img374.imageshack.us/img374/8455/comparisonvl4.jpg which has "Adywan's" version at the bottom (obviously)

and this photo by "Zion":

Maybe my monitor isn't calibrated or something, and this isn't a suggestion nor am I trying to delay the movie, BUT which version of this shot is more or less the correct one?

Again, maybe my monitor is just not calibrated correctly or maybe it is an old version of his work - but in one version the colours look un-naturally saturated and the other looks well natural?

Thanks and once more I AM NOT A TROLL just wondering for clarification.

That's just about the half way point innit?

Is there anything else you need at this late stage or are we coasting along now?

Agreed. With all due respect to all you've done, the OT Yoda was nothing short of phenomenal and needs no updating.

I have used music from ESB> with a bit of editing it fits perfectly

Given the space battle over Yavin's clear count of the victims and the survivors, I've always been puzzled by the lone Y-Wing streaking away from the Death Star alongside the two X-Wings and the Falcon. Who is this dude and why wasn't he in the fight????

The way i think about it is that his ship was damaged, like wedge was, during the battle and was unable to continue with the fight but stayed close by as sort of a back up. Either that or it was the documentary crew.

Hey, don't get me wrong, I love Frank Oz's Yoda, I wasn't suggesting messing with that, I only thought some minor improvements (not like changing his face to CGI or anything like that), to make him even more natural and less a (though great looking) puppet, but in a way than wouldn't distract people or they wouldn't even notice. But hey, it is just and idea, nothing more.

In the first place it wasn't Henson, it was the same crew that did the rest of the movie, it just happened to be Frank Oz performing it.

In the second, my first reaction was "NOOOOO, Adywan would never touch him" but on seeing what he did to the aliens in the Cantina some (very) subtle changes along similar lines would not be unwelcome. However I won't mind if he leaves him completely alone, and let's not crystal-gaze too much just yet.

Awesome news re the update, Ady! This will be the best Christmas ever! (Or January or, you know, whenever-you're-done.)

You're right, it was Frank Oz, I already changed it. Anyway, I meant exactly what you said above.

Weren't they originally planning to have Henson voice the character? Maybe that's where the confusion comes from.

I'm not too sure that i would want to touch Yoda at all. I may be able to add some facial movements but does he need it? The performance in ESB was perfect, in my opinion.

Well i've just got to the detention cell shoot-out and i have just noticed something that i haven't seen mentioned before (it probably has been but i just haven't seen it reported). We all know about the reversed music channels in the surround but what the hell is happening with the sound Fx in the front L & R channels? The music is correct but the bloody FX are reversed for the most part. I noticed something similar in the cantina and a few other minor places. Just listen to the blast that han fires when he says " i can't hold them off forever.." He is on the right hand side and the bloody blaster effect comes from the left speaker. Most of that scene is screwed. I guess these fuck ups are again down to creative decisions. the truth is Ben Burtt got his hands on the mixing desk and made a total screw up of the audio. Doesn't this guy know his left from his right? Surely with all the equipment they have at Skywalker sound this would have stuck out like a sore thumb and someone would have noticed it. Maybe they are all just too scared to criticize anything in Lucasfilm anymore. This is going to be a nightmare to fix even with the use of the laserdisc 5.1 because upon finer checking that too has problems and the dialogue bleeds into the front L & R channels throughout most of the movie, But ESB & ROTJ are almost perfect.

I guess i have a long way to go yet

If I remember correctly, Lucas asked Henson to voice Yoda, but he was too busy and suggested Frank Oz.

The 'performance' was perfect, and as you suggested, maybe just some facial movements. Try some and if it doesn't fit in, don't do it.

I must say, having seen the screenshots, is 'what a job!!' If I was wearing a hat, it'd be doffed to Adywan. It's looking good, I'm sure it'll sound good and I can't wait...but I must have patience as Yoda might say. I've tried doing a bit of editing myself and all goes well until you hit the brick wall and all motivation disappears...this really has been a labour of love!

As for the discussion on what Ady might do on the next two - IF he decides to do the next two - perhaps they could be directed into the thread open on what people might like to see and leave this thread for the main attraction. It might help to prevent confusion and tension of 'when, when, when' and 'where, where, where'...
