ANH in 1080p

Does anyone know if it is possible for Lucasfilm to release ANH in 1080p? And ESB and ROTJ for that matter. But ANH is the one I'm focused on.

If they did a new transfer from the best quality copy of the film reels that still exist then yes, they could. But of course they'd do the whole coor correction and SE shit that they will to any release so it wouldn't actually be the OT version. No one else has those reels to do it.

I hope everyone starts to feel that way eventually about Wikipedia. There are a LOT of devoted people who work on that encyclopedia (myself included), and it is nice to know that people appreciate it. The entire Wikipedia project is a very bold idea really' the fact that anyone on the internet can edit, everyone can collaborate, vot eon controversial decisions, etc. Of course, everyone is always quick to point out supposed faults like the openness to vandalism, but that is always... taken care of.

Well, it and ROTS were filmed in 1080p. The others (TPM, ANH, ESB, ROTJ) were shot on film, and have to be scanned into the computer and cleaned up, in order to have 1080p quality.

They wouldn't have to be cleaned up to be put at that resolution. The resolution of 35mm film is greater than 1080. Most likely what would happen is it would be scanned at around 2000 lines of resolution and then scaled down for HD.

And if we're going to get really technical, AOTC and ROTS weren't filmed, because it was a filmless process. They were either "shot" or "taped".

I don't mean to come off like a know-it-all prick, I'm just a finicky film student.

Hi everybody. You’re all awesome. Keep up the good work.

I know. But people still refer to it as a film. That has become the general name for the media as an artform. I reallize that AOTC and ROTS weren't technically filmed, but the term "filmed" I think has come to mean any process where a motion picture is captured into the camera.

Just because it's what most people refer to it as doesn't mean it's right or accurate.

Notice that Robert Rodriguez hasn't referred to his movies as "films" since he started shooting digital. I believe they've been referred to as a "flick", "digital file", "game" and "comic book" during the opening credits. I might be slightly wrong on the exact wording there, but my point still stands.

bu then again, those movies can not be referred to as films and can therefore not be included in an actors filmography......right?

I'm not really serious, I could care less, either way the movie got made wether it was filmed or taped and that's what matters. Well, unless you don't like it.

Just to note, some samples of a 1080p ESB showed up on alt.binaries.starwars awhile ago. I'll try to track them down again (just reformatted my computer).

I know. My point is that the term "film" has now been applied by Lucas to things shot on digital. I think the term now means the general motion picture. It's similar to how some people still say "taped" when recording a TV program with a DVD recorder.
