But this should be a simple thing to do and I’m just hopeless at this part. Just how, (user-friendly) is this file encoding system that you’ve been using because I’ve had (0 hours time) on it.

So once the file is saved to the pc what program shall I use?
Do I use DivX player
Do I use DivX converter
Do I use Mega manger
Do I use Windows Media
Do I use Power DVD

Which one of these shall I use, thank you?

The files i posted are totally user friendly. Just use windows media player to play the files. this works for both the xvid and mpeg2 versions

Megavideo is something completely different. you cannot view these files online!

you want the files Adywan uploaded to Megaupload /rapidshare. For sites like this there are paid premium accounts and free accounts, If you go the free option you need to input the code and wait Approx 45 seconds, then you will be allowed access to download the file - you are limited to d/loading 1 file at a time, there are also limits like how many times a clip can be downloaded...

What you want is 3 files on your computer hard drive in the SAME location labeled
mosclipnew.part1.rar, mosclipnew.part2.rar, mosclipnew.part3.rar

you then need a program like winrar - you can get a fully working trial version if you don't have it - http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm
select one of the rar files and choose to extract the contents. What you should end up with is a single Video file - as well as the 3 rar files.

to view the file i highly recommend using VLC media player - i'd advise against hunting for codecs if you are not too knowledgeable about those. You can get VLC from here if you don't have it - http://www.videolan.org/

you should not have to sign up for or register for anything! Hope that helps. If it doesn't then I'm at a loss.

Thanks for the information I’ll give it a go once the tome has elapsed to try another attempt. Thank you.

Every time I tried Windows I get a “ding”! And a rather simple message say unable to play file somewhere along those lines. What in the world am I doing wrong here, I must be getting to old for this. I’m so embarrassed.

Just finnished watching everything including the bonus clip, fantastic work Ady! I had no problems with any of the files. The 2000kb/s bitrate looked fantastic! Cant wait to see the final in full bitrate!

I’m not sure if (BT) is going to get queer with me. (2000Kb) I exceed me download limit last month and they weren’t going to charge me for the (over limit) I just watch one and wait until next mouth, that is if I can get around to viewing it today.

That wonderful, I have to wait at least another hour before I can try again. By the way I’ve subscribed to the thread so I’ll be emailed of any new updates.

If we have any hope in helping you we need accurate and detailed information on what you are doing and what issues you are having. Vague descriptions aren't good enough. - If you get an error message, tell us exactly what it says, etc.

Beautiful work adywan, just beautiful! I have a few critiques.

The eye brow action on this character is not very convincing.
http://img101.imageshack.us/img101/184/bitmap0hi5.jpg

I think the mouth to nose movement gould be a bit more subtle in this shot.
http://img266.imageshack.us/img266/3031/bitmap1ra2.jpg

Is the video a bit rushed, the voices seem higher pitched (Obi-Wan's) than in my 2004 DVD.

Don't get me wrong I love your work, IT"S SO FRICKEN AWESOME!!!! You are doing what I wished Lucas took the time to do, and I'm finally seeing what I've always wanted to see! There isn't anymore critiques from me. Your work is amazing!!

I'm not quite shure I understand you fully. Who or what is (BT) and why do you want it to get queer with you? About downloading the links, megaupload will let you download 2 of Ady's files free before the download restriction kicks in ( it did it for me atleast ). You then have the option of the downloading the 3rd part from rapidshare. The extra clip should be no problem downloading, as it's on bigupload.com. Ady set this up very well.

Video codec stuff can be a bit confusing if you're trying to figure it out for the first time. RAR files can also be quite confusing. I remember not getting the concept behind them the first time I had to deal with them -- so don't worry, you're not alone in having trouble!

While I'm not entirely sure, I think you're having trouble working with the RAR files. Simply put, RAR files are like ZIP files in the sense that they are compressed, but something special about RARs is that they can be used to split one single file into several separate files for the sake of expediting downloading. Think of it as having a painting mailed to you, but where the complete canvas is too big and heavy for one truck to deliver it quickly. So to expedite the shipping, the post office rips the canvas into three pieces, and sends them on three separate trucks, so that they can all get to you faster, and all at the same time. Because the canvas has been ripped into several pieces, the only way that you can see the painting in its entirety is by stitching it back together first. With RAR files, this is called "unpacking", and is what several other forum members have mentioned as part of the solution for you. There are several free and easily-accessible programs out there that complete this unpacking process for you, including (for Windows) a popular one, WinRAR (note that the link is to a direct download of the program for a Windows PC). Download and install this program on your PC, then use it to open the first of the three RAR files you've downloaded. WinRAR will then stitch them together for you, and give you one, large, and complete video file that you can then play in Windows Media Player or VLC. It is important to note that the RAR files themselves, because they are compressed, are not considered media files (like the separate pieces of canvas are not considered to be the painting), and therefore cannot be played in your media player. You need to unpack, or stitch back together, the media file first, then load that newly-saved media file into your media player.

I hope this helps! Good luck getting everything working properly.

Take care,

Great stuff. I love how the cantina music is louder when you are close rot the band and the han vs greedo is perfect.

I have 1 critique but it's something i could live with, As the speeder first approaches Mos Eisley the camera seems to linger for a moment too long and the image seems quite static and motionless. Anyone else notice this?

that aside. loving the clip, I'll be sure to show this to my mates whom I've been keeping up to speed on the project. D/loading the bonus clip now.

I'd like to pick this apart, but I won't. I'm a critical person by nature and if there is something I don't think works, I'll just cut it out and replace it with another version. Virtues of having Final Cut on my computer.

The good:

Sound mix is excellent. Sounds much better than the 2004 DVD's.
Cantina aliens.
The seamless removal of the ronto.
The Alderaan destruction looks great. It really looks like a planet exploding, instead of a stock explosion over a painting.

The bad:
Some SE elements are still there that I'm not really in favor of. That would include the Mos Eisley crane shot and the trooper getting off the dewback.
The Falcon escaping the Star Destroyers doesn't look right. Mostly because it turns away from the Destroyer, yet the engines stay parallel to the screen.

An overall great job. I look forward to seeing the whole thing sometime next year.

My goodness -- the Tantive IV's hallways look beautiful!

Brilliant work, Adywan. The major changes were wonderful, of course, but I was really reveling in the details -- the blinking chest plate lights, the enlargement of Alderaan in the Death Star window (at least, I think it was enlarged -- either way, there was something about it that looked even more beautiful and majestic than I remember), the beautiful color correction . . . and the fact that for the first time, even though I knew it was coming, Greedo's performance (and I'm delighted with the fact that it can now be referred to as such) actually made me feel as though he was real for a moment.

Thank you again, for everything. It's almost like watching it again for the first time. I know that's been said countless times before, but it really is an achievement that bears repeating. Especially with this crowd, who I'm sure has seen the movie so many times that it takes something as extraordinary as your edit to inspire such a feeling.

Take care,

See it again for the first time!....No we really mean it this time.

Just wanted to add it was laggy for me too with media player [11] but ran perfectly smooth with VLC.

I agree with the first one, totally disagree with the second one. And someone mentioned the half second linger on Mos Eisley at the beginning.

Ady, watching this was 15 minutes in heaven! Great job!!!

This is the same hesitation I'm noticing while playing the clip. It happens as the transition happens with the speeder going over the hill and then the next shot of it zooming from the left to right. It also happens with the two ties fly towards camera with the star destroyer entering hyperspace, and I think one other place that alludes me at the moment.

I guess "they (BT)" means British Telecom or something similar? (I don't know where jeditemple70mm is from to make a better guess than that.)

The video runs 4% fast because it is PAL.

And you can prolly get a codec for wmp/mpc/etc. at this Sourceforge page if you need one for XviD.

Relax, dear old Obi-Wan... your fear about something terrible happening is unfounded.

Sure, Aldaraan is no more, but Adywan your work is AMAZING. I don't know how else I can describe it without repeating what others have said.

THIS is what the SE in 97 (or 04 for that matter) should have been. Subtle changes that don't take you out of the moment but further immerse you into the world that GL created.

The only thing that bothered me, being in the USA, is the 4% speedup, but I recall there will also be a true NTSC version available as well, so no big deal

Holy smokes, I'm amazed.

I did notice one small oversight. On the shot where threepio says "lock the doors, artoo", R2's light is still the original version.

I really really like Greedo's new stuff. I can't wait to see this in its entirety.

My stance on revising fan edits.

Damn, I got to a spa for 3 days, and right then you post the a major clip. They have internet in the rooms, and I had to check this thread and what do I see, couple of pages in one day. I read all the stuff and I almost wished I was home so I could watch it - but I know a massage later today will change my mind

Ady has some skills, that's for sure. Just wanted to say that both of Ady's files play fine on my old G4 iMac, no delays or stutters. I use VLC to watch the MPEG2 files and the Perian Quicktime codec pack for OS X to view Xvid's directly in Quicktime player.

Oh yeah, Bravo! Hey, are those the photoshop subtitle layers I sent you a long time ago on Greedo? They look great! Obviously looking forward to the final. Go out and have a pint. You probably need it...

You can go about your business. Move along, move along.
