I think Disney should have a go at doing the prequels to RO and show the demise of Anakin (again). It needs re-doing.

Is that a fantasy?

I still didn’t hear a Wilhelm scream, though. 😉

When Jyn climbs onto the platform at Eadu, she pulls a stormtrooper over the edge; he gives the Wilhelm on his way down.

Yeah I thought it was on my first viewing but then it sounds different also.

I think the untouched Willheim scream is when Donnie Yen kicks the storm trooper in the Head on Jedha,(storm trooper on the floor) or is it sand in his face?

Not much point when a storm trooper has a helmet on kicking sand in his helmet 😃

Aren’t there actually several variants of the “official” Wilhelm? I seem to recall Ben Burtt saying as much in an interview.

Watching RO that particular scream struck me as an “almost-Wilhelm” of sorts so I can easily imagine them using one of the lesser-known variants. Especially as an internal in-joke of sorts riffing on the film’s reshoots. 😉

Doesn’t sound exactly like it, but it’s close.

Been thinking about this film more over the past couple of days…I think it may be time for my 4th viewing.

It seems to get better and better with repeated viewings, though the first act doesn’t improve all that much.

Another note: I know the ending with Vader hacking the Rebels was literal ‘Star Wars porn’, but it was that moment that really helped elevate the character of Darth Vader for me. We always knew Vader was a bad guy, but we never truly saw at his full potential. The prequels showed us a “saddened, frustrated Vader” whereas the original trilogy showed us the “powerful Lord Vader” without getting too violent and too far gone into his backstory.

In RO, we get a look at him healing from his wounds and going ape-sh*t on the Rebels. This is what we’ve needed for so long. The best part of the movie, to be honest…

He murdered a bunch of guys. He cut off his son’s hand. He tortured people. He massacred thousands of his own men in the asteroid field. He strangled a man and broke his neck on screen with his bare hands. That’s not even considering his complicity in wiping out a planet full of potentially billions of people.

“Not violent” must have a different meaning to you than it does to me.

Despite all that, I kind of liked the scene, but like a Seth McFarlane joke, it seemed to drag on way too long in my opinion. Regardless, I don’t feel like it added anything to Vader’s character. In fact the castle scenes were painful to watch.

Admiral Piett told him the Millenium Falcon entered an asteroid field and they couldn’t pursue it for obvious reasons. Vader told him to **** off and get the ship, whatever the cost. The Imperial Fleet then moved into the asteroid field and suffered heavy losses, as was stated by one captain. A Star Destroyer was even destroyed on screen (the captain’s hologram disappeared as he died). Who knows how many other ships were taken out in the pursuit.

Besides a little bit of black comedy, the point was that Vader was willing to go to any lengths to capture and torture Luke’s friends, even if it meant wiping out his own fleet.

Still, sending people out to their deaths is a bit different than personally hacking them up with a lightsaber.

Not for me. I still like the movie very much but my first impression of Rogue One is that it was great but the poorly written characters and the wonkiness of the 1st two acts lessens my enjoyment of the film.

Yep. It’s a missing piece that should have been in the OT and now Vader vs Rebel Soldiers is no longer mere musings but something that has actually been put to film.

The hallway scene in Rogue One (step aside Marvel Netflix heroes) showed me the Vader I always imagined when Ben talked about him hunting down and destroying the Jedi.

^ Yep. I loved it. It felt like a horror movie and it was great. It showed that Vader was powerful, but it wasn’t over the top like some of the video games.
He really didn’t do anything we haven’t seen him do before (force pull, choke, levitate. Saber murder.), but seeing him do it all in one scene in a tight corridor to terrified people… damn that was cool!

I hate when people say he was OP in that scene because they fail to realize this is a Master of The Dark Side facing up against Rebellion Soldiers. That’s akin to them fighting a God.

And one of the best things about the scene is that he isn’t flipping around and dancing like in the prequels. He fights somewhat clunkily but he still kicks major ass. He kind of is like a tank that just plows through whatever obstacle is in his way. I feel like that sort of fighting style shown in Rogue One is entirely consistent with the OT but it still allows for him to be an absolute badass.

It’s now my third favorite scene in the entire Star Wars saga. And yes, partly because it literally is straight up star wars porn. And it’s the best of it 😃

Ah, I love it! I agree with all the last few posts have said about Darth’s hallway assault on the rebels and I’m glad others feel the same I do about it. It was magnificent in all the right ways.

And yes it felt very consistent with what we see from him in the OT. I was really fun to see him totally let loose in a full on assault. The closest we got to that in the OT was him pressing Luke out onto the gantry in ESB. But his goal there was not to kill Luke but to turn him to the Darkside. That whole duel in ESB is a brilliantly choreographed mind-game.

But you ways got the sense Darth Vader was a total bruiser and it was a treat to finally see that fully realized.
