Nostalgia is somehow becoming a four letter word to certain fans these days.

If you remove all the consonants, it really is.

All these internet Siskel and Ebert wannabees really aren’t worth the time.

Sorry our opinion isn’t worth as much as yours or the next guy’s, Wook.

You’re inferring a bit here. And are you reviewing movies on youtube?

In any case, someone like Roger Ebert had a background in journalism, and he even wrote a movie script or two. I may have hotly disagreed with some of his reviews over the years, but I respected his knowledge, and he often championed films that were sometimes overlooked or unappreciated when they were first released.

I’m probably just getting grouchy in my old age, and don’t care much for what passes for movie criticism online these days. So don’t take it personally. 😉

It’s also possible the Tantive had just docked with the Profundity to render aid, and retrieve the plans?

It’s also possible that a bad script written in the 2010s has no bearing on the inherent plot of a 1977 film. Just watch the originals and enjoy them for what they are. These new films are their own thing, and they don’t necessarily have to all match perfect with each other.

You could also simply ignore Rogue One completely, and stop beating a dead Taun Taun. 😉

They revealed stuff about the meaty chlorine in TCW? Man, I’ve really forgotten a lot of that show since I first watched it (as the episodes came out). Come to think of it, I don’t think I even watched all of the last season or two.

Yep. It all happened in the final season, when Yoda travelled to their home planet and encountered a bunch of weird entities straight out of Majora’s Mask.

So if I play the Song of Time, the prequels don’t happen for another three days, right?

I’m with you, Wook. Can’t stand these Youtube “film critics.”

I didn’t spot any obvious THX 1138 references, but on second thought, the data archive room with the mechanical arm controls is reminiscent of THX’s workstation.

This … youtube … … girl (!) seems to know whats wrong with Rogue One:

In the end, she makes a bold Suicide Squad comparison …

runs away

Rogue One is redundant. Just play the first mission of DARK FORCES.

I see Youtube + Suicide Squad…and yeah there’s no reason to watch that.

We’ll have a Jar Jar cameo before they ever mention Midis again. 😉

The only Jar Jar cameo I want to see is one where he dies.

I’m actually gonna go see this a second time. I was happy with it when I left the theater yesterday and I like it more and more as I think about it today.

I enjoyed it so much more the second time because I knew the story and the characters and the ending.

Keep Circulating the Tapes.

Just something a bit amusing about the R2-D2 and C3-P0 Cameo

The Gareth Edwards Director Addresses the Plot Hole and Says.

Edwards, defended the scene telling Digital Spy: “If you listen carefully to the dialogue… they say, ‘We need to contact [fleet commander] Admiral Raddus’, or something. And someone says, ‘He’s planning to fight’ or ‘he’s about to leave’, so he hasn’t left yet.

“The idea is that [the droids and Leia] would be stopped, saying, ‘You’ve got to help us’, so that includes Captain Antilles [the pilot who is killed by Darth Vader at the beginning of Episode IV] and all that stuff. So it’s technically OK.”

The Actual Dialogue in the Movie

Senator!
Senator.
Stop right there, Private.
Let him speak.
Intercepted Imperial transmission, ma’am.
Rebels on Scarif.
I need to speak to Admiral Raddus
He’s returned to his ship
He’s gone to fight.
No!
Attention all flight personnel,
please report to your commanders immediately.
Attention all flight personnel,
please report to your commanders immediately.
We have been redirected to Scarif.
Pilots, you’ll be briefed by
you squadron leaders on route.
May the Force be with you.
Scarif?
They’re going to Scarif?

  • Why does nobody ever tell me anything, Artoo?
  • Yeah, nobody tells us anything.

Gareth Edwards was actually eluding to a different version of Bail Organa talking to Mon Mothma in the Novelization.

Bail nodded again. “He served me well during the Clone Wars and has lived in hiding since the Emperor’s purge.” He appeared to wait for Mon’s verdict, but she had nothing to offer. At last he finished, “Yes, I will send for him.”
A Jedi, returning to fight against the Empire. It seemed an impossible thought, so Mon focused on what was not. “Captain Antilles’s ship is docked with the Profundity for repairs, but it’s nearly ready to go. The extraction should be simple; if it’s not, his skills will be an asset.”
“My assessment as well,” Bail said.

Which is again totally different in the Movie.

Despite what the others say,
war is inevitable
Yes, I agree.
I must return to Alderaan
to inform my people
that there will be no peace.
We will need every advantage.
Your friend, the Jedi.
He served me well
during the Clone Wars
and has lived in hiding
since the Emperor’s purge.
Yes, I will send for him.
You’ll need someone you can trust.
I would trust her with my life.

  • Captain Antilles, I have a mission for you.
  • Senator.

Quite interesting I thought. And quite Funny 😃

The Novelization slips in the excuse that the Tantive is docked for Repairs but it’s already flown off into barttle!!!

Profundity? More like profoundly…

Having had a few days to think about Rogue One I think I can give an accurate assessment:

The story and the way it was told was solid but and just that. Beyond the entire section on Scarif and the Jyn/Galen thing there wasn’t much to drag me in either emotionally or in terms of general excitement. One thing that had me excited was the moral grey area they had with the Rebellion and Cassian but I found the resolution to be forced and abrupt. I get that the mission was a priority but they could properly hashed things out right before the mission. Lets not forget that having a comrade you trust is a priority as well. Another problem the film suffers from is pacing issues in the first two acts which is actually lead to to literally doze off. But whenever it seemed like the film was going to go on standby an undeniably awesome action scene would occur. I appreciated the score a bit more the third time around but it’s still weak for a Star Wars score; I’ll still buy it and give it a good listening to but as it pertains to how it’s applied in the film it could have been better.

Still think Vader should have gotten more screen as they nailed him and gave me the Vader I had always wanted in the PT. I specifically like how Vader uses all the established powers we’ve seen like tutaminis, force pulling blasters, force chokes etc. I very much like how they framed the slaughter. It’s as if Vader is a monster or a wall of death and while some probably thing Vader is OP we have to remember that Vader is killing non Force wielders. He was a God among men.

Tying back into my previous point about dozing off; a remedy for that could have been stronger characters and better character interactions. I know the Taun Taun has received quite a serious thrashing when it comes to this topic but it still merits discussing. I found Jyn to be less interesting in my last viewing. Beyond her nice speeches and the emotion she showed for her father I found her to be underwritten. This applies to Chirrut and Baze in spades as they are just as one note and one dimensional as I remember. I couldn’t see many things like distinct personality traits, emotional states, backstory, or even things like aspirations unrelated the main plot. All that I know about him begins and ends with him being an defected Imperial. Cassian is cool and K2S0 along with Krennic are fucking awesome. Having gotten all the main characters out of the way having them be deeper or having them more banter is something that could have made certain parts of the film less dull and made great parts even better. In general having someone to root for goes a long way in terms of investment in a story. ROTJ and TFA have their fair share of issues but I can forgive certain issues because I was enthralled and entertained by a lot of the characters.

This may have came out way more on the ranty side of things but I still like this film a lot. Just not as much as I previously did

7.5/10

I saw R1 and I liked it a lot. It is of course not OT level but it is a very decent addition. A very pleasant surprise after a crap like TFA.

I really enjoyed seeing Tarkin. He is my favourite character in OT.

I loved the feel of imperial research facility on Eadu. The atmosphere felt like that in those imperial bases from JK2 video game.

I also liked the space battle.

Yeah, it’s hard to him even a modicum of praise when he turns around and acts like that. I think it’s gotten to the point that we need to entertain the idea of informing his mother about his behavior
