Doesn’t matter;the final score is 2-4, with another three bases loaded. We have lost.
Jedi can’t be defended.

What if we’re at bat though? The ST could be the best thing to happen to Star Wars in 35 years. If they’re good will you change your sig to 5 out of 9?

Somehow, I doubt it. Even if the sequels are great you’ll find something to dislike.

If they’re great I’ll defend them wholeheartedly. I’m actually more of a three out of six man myself.

I don’t care for Kurtz at all unless all the problems with ROTJ and the prequels were caused by low budgets and short schedules. You could make a case that McQuarrie, Marcia, Kasdan, and Kershner made Star Wars good, but Kurtz is nothing more than an incompetent producer who blames his employers for everything.

You take that back about Kurtz. He was the one who helped reign in the actors’ performances in Star Wars and Empire. He kept Lucas at bay so we didn’t end up with a robot headed Luke or Green lizard Han Solo.

It’s getting a little warm in here. Everybody take a deep breath, and chill?

Calming down isn’t going to change the score. Jedi isn’t going to be better than Empire because I decide to take a five minute time out.

I’ve turned off the central heating but the cardigan is staying on.

True, but if you step back for a moment, you just might realize it doesn’t matter. At all.

Bah, you could say that about anything!

Smiles, everyone, smiles!

Perhaps you could give that time out a try anyway.

a) The winning team is listed first, even if you are the losing team. Therefore, the score is 4-2.
b) Another three bases loaded is redundant.
c) You might want to stay away from all metaphors, but especially sports metaphors.
e) My “d” key isn’t working consistently.

I wonder what the prequels would have been like if Luke’s sister was a separate character from Leia as was intended in 1980. Would Naboo have been Alderaan? Who would Luke’s mother be and how long would she live?

I still love Return of the Jedi. I agree with some of the criticisms. I think Chris Stuckmann does a fair job reviewing it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8W9_d02g694

There’s so much good in the movie that it overshadows the not so great elements.

The blue elephant in the room.

The reasons why I don’t like ROTJ that much

  1. The story. It’s basically the same story as the first movie, but now with teddy bears.
  2. Ewoks. They’re cute. But they’re supposed to be dangerous warriors. They just don’t work.
  3. Vader. Vader is suddenly a good guy in this movie. The worst thing he does is he threatens the officers that he came to bring them back to schedule. Wooo, we’re scared. His “turn” at the end has no emotional impact, he was pitiful since frame 1.Also why does Vader without helmet look in Empire like a monster, but in Jedi he looks like a British gentleman ?
  4. Yoda is completely ruined. What, I told you your training hasn’t ended yet the last time we saw each other ? Nah, f**k that, your training is over. And I’m suddenly too old and I will die soon. Like in 3 minutes.
  5. Han Solo. He’s useless. He needs to be saved and his biggest achievement in this movie is that he opens a door after the droid wasn’t able to do so.
  6. Luke / Leia relationship. Yuck. It’s sick and it makes no sense. The fact that Vader is Luke’s father works absolutely perfectly and is even suggested in the first movie, but the Luke / Leia relationship sounds like something what was created after 5 minutes of brainstorming after they realised that they need another Skywalker.
  7. Jabba’s palace. I thought he should be something like a mobster boss, but he’s depicted more like some kind of a Tatooine ruler. Every creature in his palace looks so fake and rubbery that it brings me out of the movie. I mean I can’t concentrate on the story when I know I’m watching puppets and people in rubber masks. It’s like watching a bad CGI effect.
  8. The song. It’s so f***ing annoying. Both versions, Jedi Rocks and Lapti Nek. It’s boring and annoying and has nothing to do with the story so why was it left out ?
  9. Rancor. It looks so fake. This is one of the Blu-ray changes which I like. This scene was unwatchable before 2011 to me. Also why do the creatures in the palace laugh when the pig is being eaten? Shouldn’t it be a friend of theirs? Why doesn’t Luke use the force to to safety? Makes no sense.
  10. The sail barge sequence. It’s horrible. I still can’t watch. Absolutely everything is wrong and should be re-shot. I was hoping that for any of the special editions they will either reshoot it or at least digitally manipulate it so that at least sometimes it looks like somebody was hit, but no. Well at least they put CG ropes around Han’s legs, even when it looks stupid and poorly executed.
  11. The final battle(s). Simply said - way too much action, the focus is lost.
  12. Deleted scenes. Why are the scenes of Luke building his new lightsabre and the scenes where Moff shows he’s a human being and has problems with killing innocents not in the movie? They’re so much better than anything what IS in the movie!

But to be fair - I still like (kind of) this movie, I just think it’s the worst of the original trilogy, but I still like it more than any of the prequels.

I see little difference in the back of Vader’s head between the two movies.
