Remembering an edited broadcast of ANH

This has probably been addressed before, but I can't find anything on it.

Back in the late 90s or early 00s, I saw a US TV broadcast of A New Hope that was edited.

I only caught about 10 minutes of it, but I distinctly remember that "Let the Wookiee win" had been cut out. There seemed to be other small cuts and trims, and I got the impresssion the movie had been edited down for time.

This was the only time I have ever seen Star Wars edited (well, aside from this place).

Can anyone tell me any more about this?

You know of the rebellion against the Empire?

I've seen a similar TV edit of the star wars films. Generally, networks don't really do that anymore but it wasn't exactly unique back in the day so i doubt that anyone can give you aditional information about the specific broadcast that you are referring to.

I think I have mentioned before, but we need a thread dedicated to all the broadcasts of the 80s and (possibly) 90s so we can know what was broadcast when and when the Biggs scenes stopped being spliced in

when fox t.v. showed a new hope the special edition along with phantom menace and attack of the clones they did some rediculous trims for time. A lot of threepio scenes were trimmed in between commercials , and it was the 1997 edition and this was before revenge of the sith was in theaters even before the 2004 box set. I think it was in 2003 ? or 2004? they showed the story of star wars bit with threepio and artoo relating the story of anakin skywalker . It was the premiere of attack of the clones i think for t.v. when they showed a marathon of these films. Oddly enough they showed empire on a different showing but not return of the jedi amd empire was uncut version from 1997.

i remember let the wookie win being cut for time during this broadcast as well as some lines from threepio in the desert before captured by the jawas, and sold to uncle owen and luke.

I do not think the edits had anything to do with offensive dialogue or scenes but more to do with allowing space for advertisements. The average viewer probalbly would not have noticed.

I find this to be odd because I have on tape a television station edit of the undiscovered country star trek 6 that does similar trims.

“Always loved Vader’s wordless self sacrifice. Another shitty, clueless, revision like Greedo and young Anakin’s ghost. What a fucking shame.” -Simon Pegg.

I don't intend to hijack this thread or anything, but...

In the mid-80's, I recall seeing a version of STAR WARS on Australian television that had the words 'MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU' in a bold white font superimposed on the bottom of the screen over the final (panned & scanned) shot with our heroes showing off their shiney new medals.

Anyone else ever seen or heard of this strange little variation?

That's new to me. Sounds like a Holiday Special quality addition.

Where there really ever TV edits with the Biggs scene spliced back in?

I remember similar edits for a showing of ANH on my local WB affiliate. It was one of the first broadcasts of the SE, so I taped it and still have the tape. Maybe I'll pull it out one of these days just for curiosity's sake.

I doubt it, beyond those bits that they put back in for the '97 SE.

No, there never, ever, ever were. Except for the end scene when the SE was shown.

I used to be very active on this forum. I’m not really anymore. Sometimes, people still want to get in touch with me about something, and that is great! If that describes you, please email me at [my username]ATgmailDOTcom.

Hi everybody. You’re all awesome. Keep up the good work.

Interestingly, I've heard this phrase used before as a euphemism for female masturbation.
