Too bad there are millions of other people who have this “The OT is literally perfect and no Star Wars film could ever come close” hive mind.

Judging from this forum discussions, there seem to be way fewer people who like just OT. There seems to be many who likes TFA and PT or some combination of it.

If sites like rotten tomatoes or IMDb is anything to go by most normal average movie goers actually prefer TFA over the OT or at least ROTJ.

Also the PT is not the worst abomination to ever happen to cinema according to these people either.

We keep the film more or less the same. But instead of the SKB the dilemma is instead about going on an unsactioned rescue mission for Rey.

Rey is captured but Leia can’t openly sanction a rescue mission as it would be seen as provoking the First Order and Rey isn’t valuable enough to justify it.

So instead Finn, Han and Chewie decide to strike out on their own to rescue her.

This was the idea I posted back a while ago, too. Except I’d throw Poe in there so he can get some more screen time. Just make Starkiller an outpost or something (since I wouldn’t want to lose the battle in the forest).

This is true. Most people just think they’re bad movies and have moved on. The majority of the folks I know haven’t seen them since the theater, with me being the exception having seen them a couple times years ago (except for my intoxicated marathon I did before TFA).

A lot of people on here still put the OT (even ROTJ) over everything and they don’t necessarily say how much more they like the OT than TFA or the PT. Though with the PT it’s kind of obvious. Anyway, I was actually talking about the internet as a whole and the fans you encounter every so often in real life. It seems like even criticizing the OT is still a mortal sin to a lot of people.

I mean this is originaltrilogy.com. If anywhere, you expect to find the largest percentage of OT purist here. My experience with regular people is that they mostly either like all Star Wars or not liking any at all.

Well there is a lot of truth to that. Most people, even if they recognize that the PT is bad, still like them to some extent.

I find all the flaws in the PT endearing to some extent. I still watch them on occasion. Of its star wars related in any way I will watch it. I dislike some of them, but to me, it’s all about taking in everything star wars related.

That’s true though I’ve always found that level of fanboyism to be baffling anywhere . Liking the OT more than any other SW films is one thing but thinking they’re literally perfect is a bit much.

Interesting, because most people I’ve encountered liked the OT (and now TFA), has never liked any films in the franchise or they haven’t seen a Star Wars film.

Most people I know aren’t blinded by “all SW is good” and think the PT is crap.

Can you explain/elaborate? I’d like to know your reasoning

Why of course my good man, my first exposure to star wars was through the prequels and the clone wars micro series. The Phantom Menace to me was a good starting point for anyone that was interested, Attack Of The clones was good too loved how it explained certain things, and finally the crown jewel REVENGE OF THE SITH. Not only was it the only star wars movies I’d seen in theaters it was the best, I was so hyped for it I wanted to skip school if it was on a school day. The prequels are truly amazing the mythology, history, etc. When I got to A New Hope I was impressed and my expectations grew. But when I saw Empire I was disappointed, but I never hated it, then Return Of The Jedi loved it more than empire but still wish there was more. I will elaborate more in the future.

What the fuck do original reviews matter if the collective thinking is that the PT is inferior? Your original reviews are now a small part of a much wider perspective.

Reviewers in the 70’s/80’s were a hell of a lot different than the younger reviewers that spawned from the internet age. Sci-Fi was generally slated, no matter how good the film, as it was seen as b-movie material and not sophisticated. Reviewers since the late 90’s seem to be more interested in how the film looks when reviewing films like this that how good the actual film is. You see it all the time “the story is a mess, the acting is terrible, but the visuals are amazing…” so they give it a high score.

Good reviews take time.

For example, take TFA. Right now, most of us rate it highly, despite it’s flaws, because we know there are two more movies coming, which will finish the plot.

But, what if the next two movies end up just a static shot of Luke and Rey? Now, because the whole trilogy did nothing to move past it and there is no follow-up, TFA 4 years from now will be rated ~40-60%, when now its getting 80% all around.
