Ranking the Star Wars films — Page 40

I think the important points to my ranking is that I agree with the majority around here that the first three are TESB, ANH, and ROTJ. But I do not object to the PT as much as many others on OT do. Neither do I like TFA as much as others seemed to. Put the pieces together and I like TFA less than the PT. That is my opinion. I have my reasons and I really don’t expect everyone to agree. Part of it may be having been burned by Lost, and the two Star Trek movies by Abrams and I went in with the preconceived idea the he is a bad writer. TFA is better than either of his two Star Trek movies by a long way and he got so much more right, but the story suffers from his typical story telling and I noticed and it is a big deal to me. I can watch and enjoy TPM and ROTS without the need for any edits. ATOC needs one, but TFA needs more, a lot more, before I can truly enjoy it.

Well we like what we like I guess.

EDIT:

I have no idea how you could even watch the theatrical version of TPM. The pacing is so slow; way too slow for a Star Wars movie in my opinion.

And the pacing in the extended DVD version of TPM is somehow faster? Not sure how that works, honestly.

“That Darth Vader, man. Sure does love eating Jedi.”

I assume he meant fanedited vs. theatrical. Shorter, not longer. Slightly better, not worse.

I used to say the prequels aren’t too bad if you watch a good fanedit, but I find myself thinking that less and less lately. Probably because of all the weirdos coming here and proclaiming how great they are.

The most important thing to me in a movie, episode, or book is that the story make sense on the most basic level. TFA fails that in several ways. Things like that ruin a story for me. The rest may be well done, but the gaffs destroy any credibility TFA has in any ranking. The basic story sucks so the film sucks. That is the end of the story for me. I can deal with less than perfect characters and dialog if the story they tell is solid underneath. If the story isn’t solid I can’t enjoy it.

The Room is a story about a great guy whose girl is cheating on him. So…

So The Room took what was a passé plot and elevated it to nigh-godlike status.

Birdemic is about an invasion of savage birds.

FoodFight is about a detective figuring out that a sinister corporation kidnapped his girlfriend.

I could do this all day.

Please do. It makes me laugh AND points out how silly that argument was.

Spy Kids 3 is about an ex-secret agent returning to the force when his former partner is captured.

Alvin and the Chipmunks is about a group of homeless guys that make their way up through the tough music industry and become icons.

The Legend of the Titanic is a shipwreck survival tale with a unique fantasy twist.

It’s hip to say the prequels were misunderstood.

You are the same, just a different type, proclaiming how great TFA is.

Yep, you nailed me. I definitely came here for the first time within the past six months, and proclaimed TFA to be better than ANH or ESB.

Well if you proclaimed it is better (or equal) than any OT film you are in the same boat.

Claiming ROTS is the best Star Wars film and ranking TFA = ROTJ is not even remotely the same thing.

I wonder when the nostalgia vision for ROTJ will ware off.

He’s just doing that unmentionable thing we are voting on in off-topic right now, so I wouldn’t get too close to your screen.
