SHOWS
TOS
TNG

Slowly working through those two on Netflix. TNG may surpass TOS if the rest of the seasons are better than S1 like everyone says.

Haven’t watched the rest.

Oh my God! Season One of TNG is a trainwreck! There are 2 or 3 episodes I can watch from time to time but it’s rough. Season 2 is a little better, but it really picks up steam starting with Season 3.

Tell me, does Q ever become less irritating? I cannot stand him as is.

There are times when I just really want to skip this season and go on to S2, but for whatever reasons I just can’t bring myself to do it.

Well, they definitely have better stories for him after season 1 and he usually only appears in one episode per season at that. In any case, don’t skip season one. There are some good ones here and there.

TNG
DS9
TOS
VOY
ENT

I’ve seen all the movies but I don’t rate any of them. I don’t think Star Trek really works in that format.

I hate season 2 of TNG for one reason… Dr. Pulaski. Crusher is replaced by this idiot jerk doctor who’s racist against Data (being an android) to emulate a McCoy/Spock style thing, but it just comes off as Pulaski being a racist jerk. After season 2 Crusher comes back, so all’s good from then on.

I welcomed the character if only because she brought some interpersonal conflict into a show which had a dearth of interpersonal conflict.

Well, I can’t really rate the Star Trek films, as I’ve only seen the JJ Abrams ones. I saw a bit of season 1 of TNG, and if that’s the worst season, I can’t wait to see the rest of the series. Safe to say, both of the JJ movies were really good in my opinion, but apparently they aren’t good Trek movies, so I’ll just move on now…

Movies:

Very good ones:

  1. II- Wrath of Khan [space swashbuckling: what else ?]
  2. I- Motion Picture [I’m never really sure about this one: I like it, it’s beautiful with Goldsmith at his best]
  3. VI- Undiscovered Country [Could be ranked first, love the intelligent political plot, the music, the Klingons]
  4. Star Trek 2009 [like TFA : not very good when you take a close look, but an action packed sci-fi ride that gets the job done]

Then, mediocre but watchable:

  1. III- Search for Spock [transitionnal movie, not much happens but I can enjoy it within the franchise rather than a stand alone flick]
  2. Into Darkness [too hysterical, too talkative when unneeded, and dumb, with an awful script]
  3. IV- Voyage Home [like III: it’s fun to watch only to complete the Spock narrative arc]

And last, lazy and (really) bad:

  1. First Contact [Die Hard in the Enterprise but Picard is no McClane, terrible Earth sequences]
  2. V- Final Frontier [ambitious but not talent, except Goldsmith’s score]
  3. Insurrection [looks like the tv series, but too long and dull]
  4. Nemesis [well…]
  5. Generations [seriously ?]

TV Series:

  1. Deep Space Nine
  2. Next Generation
  3. Star Trek TOS (with the Animated extension as well)

Then, I don’t like:

  1. Voyager
  2. Enterprise

Saw Star Trek (2009) last night, and liked it very much. Not an instant classic film, but very enjoyable.  Glad I went to see it. Sure it has it’s problems, but nothing that made me groan too much.  I’m looking forward to the next installment.  I enjoyed it in the same way I did “Galaxy Quest”. What more can I say?

I still don’t believe in Androids.

I guess that makes me racists… And sexist.

As long as you disbelieve in all androids, and not just male androids, or female androids, it’s not sexist. But they are all real. Also, is that “racists” (plural) a mistake, or have you been multiple people this whole time?

I would say that I still feel the same way about Trek 2009, I just think that the Trek films that I had listed above it are more enjoyable to watch on repeated viewing. I don’t “hate” any Trek film, but some are less enjoyable. The main reason Trek 2009 and “Into Darkness” are very low on the list is because of the re-casting of well established characters. But I still did not have the hate for it that many people had when it was released. That is mostly why my review sounded so positive. “Star Trek” (2009) was an enjoyable movie going experience for me, but not the best Star Trek movie going experience. Along the same lines on recasting, I’m sure “The Search for Spock” would have been much higher on my list had Kirstie Alley returned as Savik.

FILMS
II - What else can I say that hasn’t been said?
VI - Wonderful swan song, and actually quite good on its own.
I - Underrated, but maybe I’m biased bc it introduced me to Trek
III - Could’ve been really good, a few things held it back.
ST09 - Honestly, it’s probably better than at least two of the four above it, I just can’t bring myself to rate it above them.
FC - At times it seems to dour
IV - Funny the first time, not very re-watchable
GEN - It’s half good sometimes, but it’s pretty sloppy.
V - Out-of-body experience in bad, beating out the last two because at least it is some kind of experience
NEM - dream rape and dune buggies were just what Star Trek needed!
INS - Nothing about this movie works.

UPDATED Since I watched Trek09 a few nights ago.

Copy-and-pasted from the All Things Star Trek thread:

  1. Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan
  2. Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country
  3. Star Trek
  4. Star Trek III: The Seach for Spock, Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home, and Star Trek Beyond, not so much tied, but rather constantly changing position in my opinion
  5. (I’m including 5 and 6 for the sake of formatting)
  6. (because markdown)
  7. Star Trek: The Motion Picture
  8. Star Trek Into Darkness
  9. Star Trek V: The Final Frontier.

I have never seen a Next Gen movie, but I plan to get to them in due time (I started Next Gen a week or two ago and am only ten or eleven episodes in).
